2. Info here: http://www.tcelectronic.com/bh500.asp BH500 and BC Cabinets. Looking at the specs/weight, it seems like a more economic version of the RH450 and the RS cabinets. Similar features, and the amp is a normal size, and the cabinets have a lower wattage rating, BUT, I assume its all going to be cheaper and be aimed at the low-mid part of the market. I for one thought a new RH450 was coming, but perhaps thats next year? Or perhaps they have ANOTHER new line coming this year as well. Those guys/girls are VERY quick at releasing new products! Personally, I still absolutely love my RH450.
3. I just had a few hours playing along to some tracks....this bass is awesome. The more you play with the controls, the more you learn. All buttons off 2 back pups in series sounds great, then hit the neck pup and take some treble off, and its sounds big, warm and fat. Nice design....Im 99% sure this is for me! Now I want a rosewood 5 SSS and rosewood 4 H.
4. They are quite unique. I wouldnt even say the shape is that crazy when you see it. Its odd, but in a subtle way. The curves on the rest of the bass make is seem pretty normal. It sounds nothing like any bass ive played, yet gets close to so many and its own tone as well...which is what I expected and wanted. I dont want yet another exact Stingray tone...as I may as well use a Stingray! Its less 'sizzly' compared to a Stingray...definitely good for that back pickup 'burp'. The E sounds HUGE even with the single coils. I can definitely see me ordering this configuration, but in a 5 and different colours.
5. Ive been tinkering with an example of a Big Al SSS today, the four string version, to get a flavour before I order. I must admit, this bass is weirdly VERY comfortable. The neck sculpt where it joins the body is absolutely stunning. The best pickup combinations so far seem to be bridge + neck, or bridge on its own. All buttons up for serial mode bridge and middle is almost Ray like, but different. The active elecs are quite subtle, in a good sense. It doesnt overbear the tone....the mids are my favourite. Passive tone control gives you classic Fender tones but with better quality control and the neck....this neck is lovely, (Sterling 4 neck profile). The build quality and sheer comfort have impressed me the most. Im pretty sure Im going to get one of these, in SSS. Id even like a 4 string with the single H as well!
6.
Did I read that right that Dan Lakland has left Lakland? If so, why did he leave and what is he up to now?
They have been bought out so to speak, and are 'owned' by Hanson who make the strange shaped guitars! If you ask me, the whole concept of Lakland disappeared when Dan left,
7. I want an SVT 7....the demos are excellent.
8. When I was about 14, Nirvana, despite the easy bass lines. Love it, and totally inspired me to play. Early/Mid Green Day perhaps. NOFX, any era. Now, early, whatever. Interpol, again any era. Im sure ill think of more.
9.
Yeah i would need a 4 ohm version! Would be difficult with a 6x10 cab though.
Im sure Bergs 6x10 is 4 ohms? Much more money though!
10. Nice. Im guessing no chance of 4 ohm versions?
11. Get the 9.0....much fuller sound.
12. Weird. My ex-American Fender Jazz was pretty spot on...not 100% lined up but much better than the JO5 up on this post.
13.
My current stable
The White/Tort is my favourite! Nice collection.
14. KJung (search on Youtube) from Talkbass has some videos of the LM2 (same amp basically) with the RS210, and states its a very nice match up. I personally think that will be quite a nice match up, and if you want more volume, add another cabinet down the line. I have tested the LM3 with the RS210 in a practice with a loud drummer and a loud guitarist....NO problems with volume. I think the RS212 will move more air and give you more of a low-mid kick...quite nice! I still think the RS cabinets are fantastic, especially for the money!
15.
Do you know if it is any better than the tc electronics 2x12?
It was about £250 more than my TC cabinet...if I remember. Id still say my Aguilar DB212 is the king of 2x12s, for the moment. Re: TC and MB cabs - the TC only comes in 8 ohms, and is actually about the same weight, and has a 'sweeter' high end. The HF are more subtle and its a nice vintage meets modern. Id say they are both about the same for transporting around. The MB cab can probably take more watts and throw out more, and will work 'better' with certain amps that seem to achieve the best results at 4 ohms (Markbass). The RS212 is VERY loud...dont get me wrong. I have only gigged the RS210s so far, and not needed the 212, but Im going to use it as a standalone soon. If im honest, especially before the price rise on the TC cabs, I would pick the Aguilar DB212 first, then the RS212.
16. That fretless 6 is stunning...ive never looked into Wals but they look very very well made!
17. I think its the fact they are made in the Cort factory (or similar) and no longer have the well regarded pups in them that makes it even more expensive. £1000 for a bass, which is just a passive Jazz with no hardcase, needs 100% QC if you ask me. The paint job is great, Ive seen it in the flesh, but that pup issue would put me off and would also mean if I sold it on id lose money. Dave Bass had a DJ5 and the pups lined up great. I think since before Dan Lakland left, QC started to slip. Fenders still come with issues if you get a bad one, and Laklands are meant to be a step up. This is what I thought anyway. To finish the story, I tried to buy 4-5 Laklands, and they all had issues, so I gave up. AFAIK, the other Lakland Jazz type basses they have in stock all have a similar issue, whereas earlier Laklands did not. Possibly they havent spec'd the new Hanson pickups correctly?! The thing is, the new CV Squiers rarely have this problem, so why should this? It looks 'ok' in the picture, but in the flesh the G string is actually towards the bottom of the last pole piece on the bridge pup...off by about 4-5 mm.
18.
My BLX SMC 150 with horn:
I think that might have been the model I had. Definitely with the horn.
19. I owned one very briefly. If I didnt have the Aguilar DB212 I would have kept it. It looks great, sounds huge, and is very light for the size. Nice top placed handle and expensive looking carpet covering. MB cabs get some stick, but I think that cab was fantastic. Did I say it was loud?! Apparently they aimed for quite a 'flat' response.
20. The guy has serious skill. I think this skill is amplified purely by the fact he actually LOVES playing. Anyone could probably get upto this standard, but you need to want to and practice like hell. This time 14 months ago my fingerstyle playing was pretty rough. Fast forward to now and I use it for 75% of my playing, and the pick has took a break. All it took was a 'switch' where I forced myself to play everything with my fingers. Its still not how I want it, but its getting there. I also find playing 5 strings much easier with fingers.
21. Now thats stunning. Good catch. I can see from the pic your neck does not have the step.
22. I have tried this baby out. The paint job is first class, and the rosewood board is a treat. Not only that, its fairly light for a Lakland. I nearly bought it (literally had my card ready) when I noticed the bridge pickup doesnt seem to be placed correctly. The G and D string dont line up with the pup. Dave Bass had the same issue on a Fender Jazz, so I was looking out for it. Shame It looks ok on the picture, but much more noticable in the flesh.

Delacroix Gigs

My new band in Newcastle are now ALMOST ready for our gigs. So far, we have 2 planned in, with one other pending. Firstly. we are support Boy Jumps Ship at the Newcastle 02 Academy (2nd band on I do believe) - Tuesday 09/11/2010 - £5.00 in advance, £6.00 on the door. Secondly, we are playing my home town, Grimsby, at a venue called The Matrix - Saturday 04/12/2010 - Im guessing this will be no more than £3.00 on the door. Playing with Above Them, my ex-band The Departed, and another TBC. - EDIT - CANCELLED! More details when they get here. We have no demos, but they are being planned in for December, so you cant hear us until you see us. Id describe it as: Modern, fast (double time) melodic punk rock, with a few nice progressive technical parts to liven things up. Think A Wilhelm Scream crossed with Hot Water Music.
