1. That fretless 6 is stunning...ive never looked into Wals but they look very very well made!
2. I think its the fact they are made in the Cort factory (or similar) and no longer have the well regarded pups in them that makes it even more expensive. £1000 for a bass, which is just a passive Jazz with no hardcase, needs 100% QC if you ask me. The paint job is great, Ive seen it in the flesh, but that pup issue would put me off and would also mean if I sold it on id lose money. Dave Bass had a DJ5 and the pups lined up great. I think since before Dan Lakland left, QC started to slip. Fenders still come with issues if you get a bad one, and Laklands are meant to be a step up. This is what I thought anyway. To finish the story, I tried to buy 4-5 Laklands, and they all had issues, so I gave up. AFAIK, the other Lakland Jazz type basses they have in stock all have a similar issue, whereas earlier Laklands did not. Possibly they havent spec'd the new Hanson pickups correctly?! The thing is, the new CV Squiers rarely have this problem, so why should this? It looks 'ok' in the picture, but in the flesh the G string is actually towards the bottom of the last pole piece on the bridge pup...off by about 4-5 mm.
3.
My BLX SMC 150 with horn:
I think that might have been the model I had. Definitely with the horn.
4. I owned one very briefly. If I didnt have the Aguilar DB212 I would have kept it. It looks great, sounds huge, and is very light for the size. Nice top placed handle and expensive looking carpet covering. MB cabs get some stick, but I think that cab was fantastic. Did I say it was loud?! Apparently they aimed for quite a 'flat' response.
5. The guy has serious skill. I think this skill is amplified purely by the fact he actually LOVES playing. Anyone could probably get upto this standard, but you need to want to and practice like hell. This time 14 months ago my fingerstyle playing was pretty rough. Fast forward to now and I use it for 75% of my playing, and the pick has took a break. All it took was a 'switch' where I forced myself to play everything with my fingers. Its still not how I want it, but its getting there. I also find playing 5 strings much easier with fingers.
6. Now thats stunning. Good catch. I can see from the pic your neck does not have the step.
7. I have tried this baby out. The paint job is first class, and the rosewood board is a treat. Not only that, its fairly light for a Lakland. I nearly bought it (literally had my card ready) when I noticed the bridge pickup doesnt seem to be placed correctly. The G and D string dont line up with the pup. Dave Bass had the same issue on a Fender Jazz, so I was looking out for it. Shame It looks ok on the picture, but much more noticable in the flesh.

Delacroix Gigs

My new band in Newcastle are now ALMOST ready for our gigs. So far, we have 2 planned in, with one other pending. Firstly. we are support Boy Jumps Ship at the Newcastle 02 Academy (2nd band on I do believe) - Tuesday 09/11/2010 - £5.00 in advance, £6.00 on the door. Secondly, we are playing my home town, Grimsby, at a venue called The Matrix - Saturday 04/12/2010 - Im guessing this will be no more than £3.00 on the door. Playing with Above Them, my ex-band The Departed, and another TBC. - EDIT - CANCELLED! More details when they get here. We have no demos, but they are being planned in for December, so you cant hear us until you see us. Id describe it as: Modern, fast (double time) melodic punk rock, with a few nice progressive technical parts to liven things up. Think A Wilhelm Scream crossed with Hot Water Music.
9.
Just in case anybody who isn't going really wanted to, here's a quick summary of what the gig will be like: Clackety clackety, clickety clackety, clackety clack, clickerty clack. <lame singing> Clickety clackety clack, clackety click <lame singing> Clickety clickety clack, clackety clack, clackety clack, clickety clack <more lame singing> Lights go up
LOLZ
10. Man I hope you get to build up a collection again soon. Selling up was a very noble/mature thing to do.
11. Nice example dude!
12. Cant handle the tone or the slapping, but each to their own. Some of us cant get along with Flea's playing, but thats what Id class as good slap bass.
13. Horizontal...if you are worried about it.
14. That is one lovely Ray.
15.
What do you mean? Where exactly?
Well, near the neck join there was a fairly large gap between the neck and body, (even my dealer and the importers were a little concerned) but not only that, there was a step between the neck and the body. Personally, I found it not upto their usual VERY high standard, so I decided not to keep it. Every Ray Ive had (in fact any EBMM Ive seen apart from some Classics) has had a flawless neck/body join. Ive seen some others with it and some without, (only the Classics).
16. Basically flat, or with a few tweaks of the mids. Few clicks of compression. I use the presets mainly for different styles eg pick/tubetone/lower input gain, fingerstyle/bit of compression/higher inout gain/tiny bit of tubetone. Still really enjoying this amp.
17. The problem is, in 5 years or so, if the company doesnt take off, only basschat or talkbass players are going to know what it is. So if you want to sell, people might might why they are having to pay such a high amount for something that still doesnt look 100% 'finished' like a 'normal' cabinet. Thats my view if it...im just cautious. Even thought BC and TB are busy forums, there are a hell of a lot of people who just buy what they like the sound of regardless of specs on forums, etc.
18. Normally they are orange. They did hhite last year, and they can do black as a special order. Orange or white looks the best and stands out. I would get an Orange slip cover asap if I were you. Helps look after it. You are in for a treat
19. Id say there is a place for both. I had 2 x 3EQ, sold them to get a Classic which didnt work out (and to get a SR5 which is awesome). I now have a 2EQ which is plug in and play, but I have a 3EQ on the way purely as its the sound I personally grew up on.
20. Nice basses. I woould have kept mine, but there was a fairly large step between the body and neck...not something I expected on a bass £1600 or so. I imagine they have sorted this out now though. I want a Coral Red or Mint Classic!
21. 4 ohms and I would have had one!
22. A full bash is in order.
23.
Its probably because your using a picture of my girlfriend :-)
Did you want me to bring a bass down for you to try Dave? I dont mind...as long as she is in the house.
24. I had one of these years back. I thought it was quite a 'trebly' sound. I couldnt beleive it was just a 1x10 (plus horn?). I managed to trade it for a decent value and not lose too much. I did like it, but realised it wasnt really capable of keeping up with an entire loud band. Good combo though, my first 'real' high quality amp/combo.
25. Is this the same guy who plays a fair whack of Chili Peppers tracks on various Rays/etc? I cant access it as Im at work, but if its the same guy im thinking of (possibly French) he is fantastic.
