I've only used two brands of flats. I had Ernie Balls on first - a used set supplied by a kind Basschat member. I then bought myself a set of TIs. When I had fitted two of the TI strings, I compared them. I have to say, they sounded identical. I couldn't tell that I had two different brands of string fitted. Just one observation FWIW.
Exactly, and I think the TIs are a fair whack more. I think its more the feel that people like to comment on with flats....and the ommph!

I might often blow the Ernie Ball trumpet, but everyone should test these flats. Im no flats expert, but I think it might convince a few of the experts that they are indeed very nice!

At least they sorted the guard out

Help with 2010 American Standard 'P' bass please.
Musicman20 replied to REDLAWMAN's topic in Bass Guitars
I checked mine out last night. All of my strings sit on the middle grooves of each saddle, and the A and D are ever ever so slightly further apart (I think)....we are talking a matter on 1-1.5mm if that. When I bought the bass, the string spacing was totally equal (factory setup) and the strings were not all on the centre grooves if I recall. This was the same with my other 2 Fenders which I sold on. I can obviously adjust that with moving the A down one or the D up one, and this will mean they are all even....but it makes little difference. With regards to the dots on the board, are those pictures taken AFTER you have adjusted the string spacing to 'equal' at the bridge? If so, I can see why it appears the dots are closer to the A...as you have dropped the A down one notch/groove on the saddle. Just experiment a little...I tend to make sure my strings are fairly even over the pole piece spaces of the pickups, and leave it at that. -
Thanks Rich, sounds great! I am eyeing up ordering a Bongo 5 HH..and the more I hear the more I edge towards the order. I know what you mean about the responsiveness. A light touch gives huge sound with my new Ray 5 HS, so I can imagine what the Bongo is like! Im glad it is not a skinny Jazz type neck. Part of my reasons for not bonding with Jazz basses is that my hands cramp a little at the nut...I feel I dont have the room I want to play with. I imagine I could get around this and get used to it, but Precision necks always fit straight away, as do Stingray necks. I like the comments about the fit and finish. I think they make an excellent bass at EBMM, especially for the price point.

Ive used both TIs and currently im using EB Group IIIs. I have to say, them are both fantastic. Im really warming to the EB's, and they are not as expensive as you might think. The EBs have no problems with string through the body setups.

99% rosewood for me. After trying various Fender's with a maple board, I found them not to be how I prefer. I grew up using rosewood boards, and I guess Ive got used to the feel of them, and the aesthetics. I do like a maple board on a Ray, but still, rosewood just edges it. I need to try and ebony board at some point.

The Sterling V is on order as well. Ive sold 3-4 ish basses to be able to afford to do it, and one of them is my 30th present. I basically became very bored of having 3 Fenders. One great P is enough, and as yet I've not 100% bonded with a Jazz.

Thanks, I've been looking into one of these. Which model do you have?

Help with 2010 American Standard 'P' bass please.

Basically, when you move the strings a little on the saddles, they wont be equally spaced over the dots and/or the pickup pole pieces. If you prefer the strings with different spacings, no probs, just pop them over the groove you want them to sit over. If you want them totally equal, just line them up so they are all equal -

Seems normal. I've spaced mine so the A and D are slightly further apart. Easy to put back to normal. -
$5,000, and only 50 made. No-one on here is going to get one, I bet. They will be snapped up by big names. The ones behind are the 'normal' hybrid version that is standard production. Strange.

I personally think they look fantastic, and im extremely vain with my gear.

I put at hread up here a few days back. I look forward to testing them out. I still havent heard a cabinet I prefer to the Aguilar DB112/212, so it has stifff competition. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=107870
Bongo (not thought long enough for neck and colour)
They are always rosewood boards, as apparently maple boards didnt look right, so they dont offer it. Personally I preder rosewood, so thats fine. The neck is painted then satin finished. I admit this is intriguing me as to whether I will like it, but apparently it is very smooth and comfortable. The main postive comment I get is that when you plug it in, the tone is a monster!
I know this is not quite what you're asking.......but how about a G&L 2000 or G&L Asat Bass if you are looking with something with an impressive range of sound options and capable of delivering a big sound as well as more conventional P/J-type sounds. I remember seeing the first StingRays over here back in the late 70s / early 80s and they seemed to have landed from another planet then. So I wouldn't be surprised if the Bongo's looks grow on all of us and become a future classic.
Thanks for the suggestion. As Ive hasd such great experiences (so far) with EBMM basses, Im sticking with what I know, especially when it comes to 5 strings! Its took me a long time to find a neck I really get on with, with a quality low B. Not saying G&L wont do that for me, I just dont want to gamble at the moment. I agree, the Bongo is slowly becoming quite a normal look....almost. Now the Big Al is the 'weird' creation, yet when I tested one out, it felt so comfortable I knew I had to have one.
-
Nice! Love that Big Al in particular. I find that the EQ on the Big Al only needs TINY adjustments. I loaned one to see if I liked it before I ordered, and I found a small treble cut, plus a small low mid bump, was perfect. What I found clever was that there was barely any volume difference between passive and active. The only setting that sounded a little louder was all buttons up, bridge plus middle pup in series.

100% NEEDS a box. The hardcase with be well damaged/chipped unless you bubble wrap / put it in a box.

How long is the bass in your hands each day?

Not enough! -
Hmm....still want one of these bloomin Bongos!

Stunning colour! I like! I must admit, im the same with the Grolsch washers. I cant stand strap locks clanking about and they seem to mark things quite easily sometimes. It might be a cheap option, but its a very clever option! No mods, no messing about, pop them on and enjoy without worry! (I still worry anyway, but these help).

There is a massive thread on Talkbass about the B-15. Talks of it being $5000 and limited to 300. Its all point to point high quality USA built, but $5000?!
