1. When I say pros, I mean the real 'classical/jazz' minded bassist. Those who are very very dedicated to their playing. I have no doubt Markbass have some say in this, but despite selling my LM3, id still like a 1x12 combo. They definitely have clarity. A rubbish bass will sound rubbish! No colour.
2. Agreed. I think he's a guitarist
3. There does tend to be a lot of pros using the combos.
4. I reckon Id have to play one before buying one (MB combos). The deal just seems TOO good, something has to give.
5. Whoops I didnt put it in! Thanks
6. Great EB Group III flats are lovely. Not as costly as most and very very underrated. I am mellowing out some on my USA P Bass. They have some zing for a few months but they are calming a bit now. Try Dave's chromes too. I am at the same crossroads as yourself, and Im a bit worried going any smaller than 1x12 is pointless. I do play with a drummer, so I may as well go DI with a quality DI like the Tonehammer. So, Im on the fence as to whether I get a nice 1x12 cab and add my amp, or just go DI. There are some nice 1x12 combos, but much more costly than I want to pay for what it is going to be used for.
7. Did you get to try the MB212? Im wondering what the catch is?!! Seriously cheap.
8. Here is a video review of their new bass. Not sure if its a bassist reviewing it?! I do like the QC check over though. First thoughts? Nowhere near as cool as the DJ bass, they should have just done a super cool 70s style Jazz, passive, but a touch different to the DJ. Not sure about the fact they are humbucking, personally I like a Jazz pure and simple. Is it me, or is there no 'tone' knob?
9. Which microcube seems to be the most useful?
10. My immediate reaction would be to turn the tweeter totally off and bump the low mids. The VLE should be able to get you close to what you are after I reckon.
11. I have used a LM3 with a P and Aggie cabs, that was nice, but I must admit, with an F500 and NY122, it sounded sterile and too 'lifeless'. It can be done, but when I've just plugged and played, the J sounded naturally better with the MB gear. Could just be that it's SO clean and almost flat..
12.
Does your amp have one of those new fangled volume knobs? If not then you could try plucking softer.
Yes indeed, although I like buying new toys !
13.
Am guessing you still have the Genz Streamliner and TC RH750 incoming? Either of those will, I'm sure sound sublime through a small cab at the sort of volume you are looking at. And wont be overkill due to the dinky size of them.
Sure have, still waiting but in no need of them at the moment. Agreed, a nice small well made cab would be great.
14. Definitely want to consider the Promethean. Light, small, good price, and ive heard like you say the quality is high. I dont want to spend £1000 on a combo or £600 on a neo cab when you can get good sounding ones like this for £500+.
15.
I've got a TC RS112 cab just sitting around at home if you're interested, Gareth. I was going to stick a FS thread up soon anyway. PM me if you're interested. Oh, and it's in VGC, ya picky bugger ye.
Cheers ill definitely give that some thought!
16.
Hey Gareth, thats so cool, you have joined the same band as me apart from we do originals only. Male and female singer, both playing acoustics. me on bass and we auditioned a drummer who will play with brushes and hotrods or just percussion. Its so nice and relaxing and refreshing. Anyway, I was in the same situation as you and settled on a Markbass 121H combo. Way louder than what I need but does not mean I have to use it. Plus, we are planning on doing some festivals this year and may be doing some area's so I wanted something with a bit of balls. Plus my old 30 watt combo sounded like a wet fart.
Thanks! Yeah its refreshing and the P bass sounds beautiful with a quiet drummer and an acoustic. Definitely keep flats on it. I was tempted to look at larger combos as well, for bigger gigs, because they seem to be doing quite well, and the drummer may be giving up his main band to put more into it.
17. Thanks for the advice. Agreed on the DB112 probably being overkill and quite heavy! I do LOVE the tone though. Its a case of wanting to turn up with the combo all ready, quick setup, then play. They are all about modern light equipment and the PA is small but very good quality. Another option is the Phil Jones Cub, £319!!!! 18. If I had a lot of cash id love the GB Shuttle 6.0 12T, but its almost £1000!!!!
19. Yeah the DI option is a good option especially as the pedals work so well. GAS has a part of it, definitely. But, I like to look into options.
20. Im not going to say a thing actually, because I still get on really well with a few of them and im using the drummer elsewhere. Cheers
21. Ive finally found something thats worthy of spending time with. I went to school with the drummer so we have a good relationship. The singer/guitarist is very laid back (not lazy, just friendly and easy going) and has a good attitude. They are already gigging, so im now joining them to add depth to their sound in the next month. This is the first time Ive played at low volumes, and its fantastic. First practice was quiet and good fun. The singer/guitarist uses an acoustic through the PA or a small amp, and is going to start using an electric through a small amp in the next few months to add to the types of music we play. 99% covers, with a twist. They are more than happy for me to go straight to the PA with a Sansamp or my Tone Hammer...last night I went straight into the PA without these and it sounded much better than I expected. Id QUITE like to look into a very small, light-ish combo with a nice DI out, and a very clear uncoloured tone. 1 speaker is definitely going to be enough, whether it be a 10 or 12. They do not play loud. I could: A - Use the PA with the DI boxes I have (BDDI and Tone Hammer) B - Buy a small light cab to use with my small amps (maybe even a DB112) C - Buy a cool little combo (1x10 or 1x12) like a Genz Combo, Promethean Combo, or GK MB combo. Remember, this is acoustic. I am going to try the TC RS210, but from previous experience it is very loud for a small cab! How are the new GK MB combos? Low prices, but low quality? Cheers!
22. Exactly, ill leave them to it. Not really fair on Orange because the deal is great. Id never take the mick when a large successful company is prepared to help you out. Totally wrong.
23. Nice, but the 25 frets just looks odd!
24. I think people should be aware. I've had a new purchase go wrong and was quite ugly in the end. I was going to post it but I figured I'd get jumped on. I'll leave it be.
25. Guitarists won't use neo cabs..maybe just a smaller combo?
