1.
Personally, I'd be tempted to avoid a cab with inherent booty.
Probably wise, the RS210 will work out I think, but a DB112 would be nice!
2. Cant really justify the AE112 price unfortunately. Plus the prices have risen, and they are now being discontinued. Big shame. There must be something out there. The Aggies are calling me again!
3. Hmm, I personally like the slick black. The 450 colour is an odd one, not quite sure what colour it is!
4. PS - Can anyone recommend a decent small cabinet to go with one of these? More than likely a 1x12, not really bothered if its neo or not. Nothing ludicrously expensive, which rules out the recent neo price rises!
5. Mine has been delivered from Bass Merchant along with the RH750. Two in one day! However, I might not even have time to open them until Friday/Saturday. Busy few days
6. I definitely won't be maxing them out. Im not usually one to be at loud levels, but yeah, the feel between the shuttle 9 and 450 was night and day, and they seemed to almost have the same headroom. Odd! Wattage is never an issue, but the new high powered amps should not compress and clamp like the LM2 etc when pushing a largeish 8 ohm load.
7.
If the power upgrade is not as big as the numbers suggest then maybe your prediction of it blowing the streamliner 900 away might not be the case afterall
Hmm, we shall see. TC rates their watts much more conservatively cf to say Genz, so the Shuttle 9.0 is probably not that much more powerful than the RH450...I've heard tests on talkbass about this. I don't need the wattage but what the heck, TC make fantastic high end gear
8. Mine is due tomorrow. I upgraded simply for the tweetertone and just having the latest one! Sad, isnt it!
9. I'd love it but I don't have enough
10. I would also consider ceramic loaded 1x12s, like the Aggies as mentioned. Easy schlep, KILLER sound.
11.
has anybody tried the streamliner with a barefaced super twelve?and if you have was is any goodsince im torn between the rh740 and rs212 or streamliner and super twelve
I have a Streamliner 900 and RH750 all coming tomorrow, but my guesses are the Rh750 will be my favourite as the 450 I sold to get the 750 was my all time favourite micro amp. The 750 will smash it volume wise, no doubt, as TC seem to rate them differently. Not that volume is an issue. Ill try them both out back to back and MAYBE get a vid up...but time is tight at the moment. If not, a written review. Ive had no micro amp since selling the 450 and LM3 so Im happy to get what I planned in a few months back.
12.
Just want to sing the praises of Bassmerchant. Hassled them like an annoying school child about the Aspiration series basses, got the information I wanted and then left it a while to think. Decided to buy one and really wanted to support a specialist bass shop that i have had a number of successful transactions with in the past, but found the item cheaper elsewhere. So I asked them about it and they offered me a price-match. Paid at 4:40pm today, bass was put in the hands of the courier as I was on the phone to them and it will arrive (if all goes smoothly) tomorrow. Contemporary J 5... Excited!!
Agreed, top chaps at the Bass Merchant.
13. Definitely send it back. You pay more for new items and it should be perfect. Where was it from?
14. Nowt is like a 4x10 if you like that type of cab. Two 2x10s horizontal? Try some Aguilar cabs if you can.
15. No 1x15 will push out a 4x10 volume and 'sound' unless you compare a low end 4x10 to high end 1x15...and still you'd be missing something.
16. You might prefer a single 4x10 but I think the lightest is going to be around 60-70lbs, and being neo will be around £800-£1000+.
17. For a single 4 ohm solution, Id opt for a 2x12 unless you need serious volume. What is your budget? Lightweight is going to be VERY expensive unless you buy soon, or wait to see what happens with neo prices. Most manufacturers are increasing prices on neo loaded cabs very soon, or even discontinuing the models! (Bergantino). Id opt for a Genz Benz Neo X 212T. The TC cabs you had/have are actually very well regarded over on Talkbass. The RS210 is a great 2x10, and thats not even looking into the fact its not too pricey, is fairly light, and is easy to move around. I think your best bet is either a nice 4 ohm 2x12, (although it wont be THAT much louder than your previous TC RS212) or two smaller cabs. Two Aguilar DB112s are a great modular rig. They arent light, but they are manageable.
18. Anyone gigged the Promethean as the combo? With a drummer?
19.
I think it looks great. Definitely what I would be having if it wasn't so expensive. I just don't get it. The Skylines, being the 'squires' (right?) ought to be a few hundred quid surely, not £1k. The USA ones should be about £1k, not bloody £2.5k. I'm likely to end up with a Peavey at this rate.
Agreed on prices. Skylines are SILLY prices nowadays.
20. Ive had a few MIAs and a few MIJs. They ALL vary. I had a MIJ bass for 15 years and whilst it was great, I wouldnt pay the modern prices. Far too expensive, and the prices of second hand models (more so from dealers and importers) are crazy high. The premium MIJ models with USA pups are much better. My current MIA P bass cost me the least out of all my MIA Fenders and it is my favourite P bass. I havent found one that tops it. Just be careful with QC on any MIJ/MIA and MIM Fender. Id make an offer to the shop, because most stores want to make a sale and will meet you on a price. If I had to buy again, 2008 onwards MIA P all the way. Great upgrades!
21. Cheers, thanks for the offer and info!
22. Looks great, but wow, what a price!!!!!
23.
That's definitely an unusual reason for not going for something. You really should give one a go, you won't be disappointed.
I know what you are saying, totally, but Ive found that when a deal seems to good to be true, it normally is! Not knocking GK, but how have they managed to get a 500W class D amp, and 2 neo speakers in a cab for £550?! What quality are the components?
24. Well, Ive had a look around at all the available options for small gigging/practice combos/separate cabs. Im going to DI for the time being as the pedals, as we all know, are very high quality, and I know the singers PA is a well kept, modern system, so I have that option. I would still like something for myself to use for certain gigs. I do like the feel of a bass amp behind me, and no doubt I would put it on a table so its at ear height. I have decided against the GK MB combos. I haven’t tried one, but the price seems too good to be true. 500W 2x12 combo for under £550 and its lightweight?! Something has to give. Ibanez Promethean – Great little bit of kit, but I’m worried the 1x10 is going to be a little too small for what I need. I don’t necessarily need an amp as I have an RH750 and Streamliner 900 incoming. If that combo was a 1x12 Id be after it. Genz Shuttle Combos – Wow, very pricey gear. I never knew what these combos went for. £1000 for a 1x12 and a Shuttle 6.0? That’s more than Markbass by a fair whack. Not saying it isn’t good quality, and the Genz amps themselves are, IMO, great prices, but their cabs seem quite pricey. At £1000 I may as well buy a high end 1x12 and use one of my amps…same thing really. Or, go all the way and get a Walkabout Scout 1x12 Combo. Then, on the other hand, there is no point getting anything too large, as the TC RS210 cab is quite light and small as it is, so in that regard, I may as well use that and be careful with volume! So, unless anyone has any physics-defying ideas for small and good quality/not too expensive combos, ill stick with the DI for some gigs and then use an RS210 on others. Some 1x12s are as heavy (almost) as the RS210!!!!
