1. Damn, I should have been quicker! Glad you got a buyer though
2. I must admit im tempted...
3. Definitely heed the advice on Markbass gain, stick underneath the light flashing...the amp 'clipping' is not nice on these amps. Genz and TC are a little different, as in some gain pushing is ok, but Markbass is a little different.
4. I think the culprit is either the gain not being set as high as it could be, the Dingwall not putting out enough, but more than likely the 1x12 cabinet is not enough for the gig. I wouldnt think the 1x15 plus 1x12 should need more volume, and if it does, something isnt right. I am thinking of using a 1x12, but its for an acoustic/bass/drums trio, not a heavy rock band. Hope you get it sorted!
5. PMT have the worst site going...without a doubt. Have you received their mailouts?! Usually a total mess.
6. I have to vouch for that 4x10. Yes, it's a big cab, but the sound it produces is huge! Easily big enough for rock/punk/hardcore gigs...
7. This would be good for my acoustic band. Would love to see more pictures!
8. Hi all This thread has been long coming if im honest. I do buy quite a lot of gear, but recently Ive had a few problems. Some of the gear I ordered, as can be seen by previous threads, turned up not 100% 'right' for a new product. This obviously is the manufacturer, not the store who sells it. Its left to the store to organise the returns etc, and be patient whilst I have yet more problems. I have to give Darren and Chris at the Bass Merchant a big thank you for their help over the past 3-6 months. Before this, I was happily buying with no problems, but recently it seemed all things went wrong at once. They have backed me all the way and been very patient and understanding. The icing on the cake was their help with a Ray which was only 5-6 months old. If you want to deal with a very friendly, responsive, and well priced store, I can thoroughly recommend the Bass Merchant. Ive had some replacement items over the past few days and I am happy to say it looks like things are better now....I still have some orders incoming after my huge bass/amp sell off, so hopefully all will be fine now. PS - Their Genz Streamliner prices are very good!
9. How many Dingwalls now?! Woah, nice collection. The PJ gets my vote....beautiful.
10.
Wow Gareth, does this mean you've now turned to the.... "bright" side? as in maple fretboard side?
I used to have a fair few maples at one point, (more so than rosewood) but now I only have one! (This one). I think the non-gloss version of a maple board (unlike the new Fenders, etc) is more my thing. I have always liked EBMM necks, but I realise the maple wasnt as exciting as it used to be. This current 3EQ ive just got this morning has a really pretty neck and board. Lucky to get it!
11. My 'very buzzy' new 2EQ has been exchanged, very thankfully, for a new 3EQ in Vintage Sunburst/Maple/Black. I would normally agree about the 'bland' maple nowadays, but WOW, this maple neck/board is beautiful for a new standard Ray! It has birdseye figuring around certain areas, and a nice subtle bit of flame figuring on the headstock. The board itself is perfect.... The bass is also very very well made, im back to being very confident about EBMMs Pics when I get chance!
12. Cheers!
13.
Good news about the bass Gareth. Cant wait to see the pics. So, thats all sorted, just the amps to get now then (and the other incoming basses of course).
SL900 turned up as well yesterday. Tested it, all works fine. I was right to return the other as with the same cable, this fitment is MUCH tighter and doesnt move.
14. The bass returned to be ... Yep.... Exactly the same! I gave up on it. I wanted a single H so Bass Merchant chaps realised we were getting nowhere and got me a 3 EQ Maple/Burst on the way as a swap, (the 2EQ was still well within warranty). It's just arrived! Firstly, beautiful burst again. Neck pocket is even better on this one. Weight seems average, paint job is great. I panicked for a moment as there was some flecks of white near the neck area, luckily it was polish Now I've avoided maple boards for a while. With this, I'm glad I didn't! Has anyone seen a standard modern Ray with flame on the headstock and maple birdseye figuring throughout the entire neck and board?! Well, I have, it's here! There is nearly as much birdseye in this cf to the Classic I tried!!!! Once the neck ages a little and darkens this thing is going to be a stunner!
15. Re: ceramic, they won't ever totally disappear. Just like tubes, there will always be a market.
16. Lets just see what happens with Neo in bass cabs over the next 2-3 years. Im not saying I agree or disagree, but I think some factors, eg comparing a few pounds with 1x12s, makes little difference. If you prefer the ceramic tone, BUY it. A 1x12 is never going to be silly weight.
17.
I just switched from huge tube amp with even bigger 1x15" and later 2x12" cab and here's my current setup. I like it a lot! Head is well known TC RH450, but the cab is a little special one. It's 1x12" loaded with Eminence Kappalite, made by local builder and it's totally awesome. Due to very thin ply it weighs only 11kgs, but is sturdy/bulletproof construction, because there is very clever system of supports and reinforcements inside. I had it compared with Mesa Boogie 1x12" side by side and it is not worse...
Nice cabinet! Looks very professional! How much does he charge? (Good choice of amp btw).
18. Still considering selling mine...
19. To the top!
20.
The Barefaced midget is a route and at around 9kg you won't find anything as good for as little or as light. And Im sure you have a head somewhere to match with it. Although I'd like to try that turning up with a DI in my pocket and playing, I just don't like the idea of my sound being controlled by speakers/PA cabs I didn't choose. I'm such a control freak.
I did try the Compact previously in a louder situation and didnt bond with it if im honest, light and loud-ish, yes, but not sure it was what im after. Id have to see recent BF cab production to consider it...purely because Im a picky so and so.
21. See, what people could do is just order a CV P and J, and get a deal for two, and not bother getting an American Standard.... But, the question is from me, seriously, HOW do they compare?
22. Ive had a fair few Rays, and until this one, they were silent. It buzzes like crazy (see my Repair post) even though in the same settings, my other basses are silent. Fortunately its new, so I can swap it for another.
23.
I played the Matt Freeman Sig bass in Dawsons, Leeds at the weekend! Felt / looked great but felt £400 was a little too much.... I only buy new when i know there's little or no chance of finding what i want on the used market! My most recent purchase had to be new as ive never seen a Sadowsky Metro RV5 PJ in Candy apple red for sale here before
Hi Chris! Did you buy the Sadowsky fresh from them directly? I look at their prices from GuitarGuitar and they are INSANELY high...plus they always have the same stock, and the last time I went, they were hung next to the window with the summer sun directly on them!
24.
And I thought he was just joking with that comment... Hmm, very nice bass *ponders*
Is there a TF looking for a new home? ...
25. On the issue of noisy basses, my 2EQ Ray that is being replaced is/was quite buzzy and noisy for a Ray. Definitely a grounding/shielding issue.
