I tried a 5 string Ric yearrrrrrsssss ago! Maybe when I was 15?! It was pure awful.

Wowwwwwww

This pedal has just had a major software update land!

I would say a good comparison, pedal wise, perhaps so not high gain, would be the Tech 21 gear. Quite a lot cheaper. I've had a pop at Aguilar as the prices went exceptionally high. Something like £700 for ONE 1x12 DB112! I paid £600 new for a DB212! Those prices are before and after middleman distributors. If these new DG cabs are made here, why on earth are they incredibly expensive? The Aguilar SL410 is crazy money but it is light and it's imported from the USA. At these prices, BERGANTINO every time.
I like Doug. He seems a nice bloke and he's clearly a very talented engineer. But all that bollocks about bassists not thinking about how important cabs are in the signal chain gives absolute damning proof that his marketing guys should be staked out, smeared with BBQ sauce and left for the wolves.
HAHAHAHAH
Over priced, over hyped and last year's sound. Pointless speakers? Well actually once the short lived buzz about the transient metal sound has fizzled out, IMHO A pointless product range. There I've said it...
I hate to be a typical cynical Brit, but I agree. I happily buy expensive products, such as Apple, but something about the DG pricing structure just puts me off. I also really DO NOT like the current trend of extremely distorted bass that people play like a guitar. Djent or whatever the genre is just rubs me up the wrong way. It sounds tacky. I love hearing new types of music but I cannot get into it whatsoever, and I am a big fan of heavier and faster aggressive music.
Mind you, they still sell plenty of the pedals, so I hope they sell the cabs too! Always good to support the little people and help local businesses.
I don't think they are so small now!

Just use a Helix into a monitor/PA or even powered cab/bass amp into cab...far more flexible for bass.

Personally, I would have opted for a more modern take on a bass cabinet. For that money they could have refined a more Barefaced type approach, or even Genz/Genzler, instead of just a decent 4x10 that weighs far too much. I think their tone would be great through a more modern bass orientated cab like a 2x12 with a mid/HF type arrangement, specially designed and tuned. Neo speakers, lightweight and well braced. No idea what the point is of yet another 4x10. You'd be better getting the lighter BF. I do applaud them for such a well marketed bass product range, but it's not really my type of tone. E.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FN2KFdgtms I can't handle the bass just following guitar chugs. Dave is a great player but this music just washes over my head and I love metal, hardcore and more importantly punk. Very niche. They should have aimed the new products at general players and demo'd clean. The Lakky sounds great though! Nice to see a decent 4 string P bass being used instead of a Dingwall.

Who is making the cabinets? That is serious cash for a 2x10.
Manufactured in the UK too apparently, so hopefully reasonably priced over here. I wonder if they have collaborated with Barefaced or someone else we are familiar with...
Hmmm!

I wonder why it has gone this way? It must be very expensive to import one or two products as a consumer now?
-
That is strange; never expected BD to stop stocking Bergantino.

I had an all Orange rig. It sounded stunning but it was FAR too heavy, more so the cabinets. The AD200b is a nice simple powerful tube amp. Warm, with a lot of bite if you want it. Personally, I think tubes are much more of a 6 string guitar necessity. Whilst they always sound great, I think they are more crucial to a guitar sound. A good quality solid state bass amp of say 500W with a high end gain pedal and you will get so close with a lot more headroom. Unless I toured with a band properly again, I wouldn't opt for a full tube amp for bass. I do however think the Orange solid state amps are worth your time. If they still made it, I would suggest the Bass Terror!

Oh that makes sense, so the higher range without any low end is going to the Katana? Can't see why that won't work!

Sire 5 string, or save and get a second hand USA Musicman.
Bought one new last year and it was a thing of beauty... Had a gripe with the nut being a bit shoddy but Ernie ball sent me 2 new sets of strings of my choice to compensate. About 3 months into ownership there were some gnarly intermittent issues with pick up phase, sent away for repair 2 times and returned unrepaired every time. They kept just re securing the pick up instead of swapping it out. In the end I got a refund and switched to a sandberg California II vt4 which is a totally different thing, but I was a bit soured on EBMM after that.
That really isn't acceptable. Sorry to hear that. If you are in the UK, the dealer should have made everything good for you, no matter what it took.
-
Are you running the full range of the bass through it?!
-
Sterling H, all years, can switch series/parallel/single coil on a ceramic magnet pickup. The HH and HS models are ALL series mode. Unless things have changed or I've made a mistake!
-
It's quite a step forward in technology, but there comes a point when you think, do I NEED something to be this small and light....
-
Yeah they will struggle to sell those cabs at that price.
-
Made in the UK?!! Maybe working with a manufacturer we all know?
-
Yeah the new Rics are just INSANELY expensive. I won't be buying new unless I see offers from now on.
