Playing in a covers band I find I need a 5 string. I tried to get on with 2 differently tuned 4's but gave up in the end. 5 strings for me, it's so much less complicated.

Some amazing websites for learning cover tunes quickly!
PURPOLARIS replied to Max Normal's topic in General Discussion
Youtube is pretty good for learning songs too. Just type in the Bass cover you want and it'll give you an idea of the song and other peoples interpretations of it. -
The Moffat Bass Bash saw the first showing of the prototype filter pedal. We were looking for some feedback on the pedal and thanks to those that helped out with this. Thanks to John East for putting it together for the Bash and to Paul Sugden for sorting out the graphics. Still work to be done regarding the feature set and some fine tuning for the graphics but all going in the right direction.
Looks like a quality piece of kit.

I spoke to David at Probass and he's hoping to have a 5 string version of the RV4 sometime in April. I've put my name down for one

I've emailed them to see if he can get a 5 string version of that black Rick. I haven't seen any 5 string versions of any of the retrovibe basses yet but I'm keeping a lookout. If anyone knows differently please let me know.
What makes you think that B to G is standard? Originally 5-strings were always tuned E to C, it was only when some manufacturers suggested that an alternative B to G tuning was possible that players adopted it.
I would say that nowaday's it's the standard tuning for a 5 string. That's what makes me think it, and going by most of the comments on this topic that seems to be the case.
Hi, I've been thinking about a 5 string for a while now, pretty sure it's going to be a Precision American standard. But what I'm struggling with is tuning, B-E-A-D-G or E-A-D-G-C with a hipshot for drop D? I know this is subjective but I was curious as to what you lot do? Cheers, M
I tune mine standard B-E-A-D-G the reason being that I started playing 5 string for the low B.

Own up, did you think your bass/guitar was plastic?
PURPOLARIS replied to waynepunkdude's topic in General Discussion
Okay this is very much a reality now, I'll book it as soon as I know which day suits the most people the best, possible dates are sat 31st of april or sun 1st of may. I have dibs on both days at music box at the moment. The issue is the cost of 3 rooms for 5 hours, I'm imagining it will cost over £100 so I need 9 other definate attendees to come just to cover costs of the studio.
To be honest I think you'll find it quite hard to get anywhere booked for the 31st April unless they add another day onto the calender However I might be interested in driving from Swindon. Is there parking there ? I can bring my Jazz along which I've got for sale HERE at the mo (shameless plug) if it's not sold by then and people can have a go with it. I'll also bring along my Shuker and SVT6 Pro. I might also have my new Matamp 6x10 which I could bring along if people were interested in hearing it.

Anyone Know Anything About 100 Watt Laney Bass Amps?
PURPOLARIS replied to Ancient Mariner's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've been offered on at a decent price, but I've a feeling it's actually the PL100 guitar combo, and not the bass amp (I haven't seen it yet). Can't find much info on the net about it - does anyone know if they actually made a 100watt bass combo in the 80s/ear;y 90s and if it was any good.
I use a Laney Linebacker 100W in our practice studio. I normally use an SVT 6 pro for gigging so can't really compare gigging wise but for practice it does what it says on the tin. It's got loads of power, more than enough to be heard above our loud drummer and guitarist and sounds ok. -
Very nice Purpolaris - I understand why you're selling that other bass.
Yes, I get a smile on my face every time I pick it up and play it. It's 33" scale as well which is great for people like myself of the shorter persuasion
