1. If you think it's challanging to play, can you imagine how difficult it is to create such a bass line? Macca was, and is, incredible!
2. Use an small jiffy bag (the one your strings were posted in?) and write the brand/gauge on it.
3. It almost makes me gag to suggest this, but Alright Now by Free has to be a 'must know'. As overplayed as it is, it's still a great example of a tastful, restrained and effective playing. Oh, and Guns n Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine. Many of the same reasons as above, plus a beautiful 'cello' intro and the verses snake their way though the song, all the time playing accents in sync with the drums.
4. Great post. I'm in awe of both the build and the backstage blagging.

6. Thanks for all the responses. I'm happy that I have plenty of DI options if I go down the vintage valve amp route.
7. Happiness Is A Warm Gun by the Beatles is a good 'un. 4 distinctly different sections, all but the first section are riddled with various time signature changes, and it clocks in at about 2 and half minutes long.
8. I don't think a Ric is going to suit the oft-required palm mutes my band's set dictates. Which, considering we play only Beatles songs (with a leaning towards late-era album tracks), is ironic.
9. Hi Is there a device which acts like a DI but sits between and amp and cab? I'm sure I've remember mention of one on BC. I'm looking at buying an old valve amp but would want to 'DI' the amp sound (and we all know what sound engineers think of micing bass). Cheers, James
10. Queation for the Rickenbacker lovers/haters. Is it possible to palm mute on a Rickenbacker bridge - with all the that mechanical mute business happening? Can the hardware mute be removed simply?
11. Thanks for the replies. I bought them fitted to a 1991 MIM. I'll have to get that book.
12. I'm trying tovidentify the type/year of these tuners. Can anyone help?
13. Just picked up the new issue, had a flick through and I'm looking forward to reading it. I have one gripe, which occurs regularly; in the review section, there are often reviews where there isn't a picture of the whole bass in one shot. Making it difficult to judge the overall aesthetic of the reviewed bass.
14.
12 strings totally rule though. Such a pity that Hamer went under. Thanks for that Fender.
Did Fender buy (and shut down) Hamer? I didn't know that. What are the chances of Fender doing a Precision 8 or 12 string? I'd love one.
15.
The only problem I have found, when I have been to see bands using an 8 string, is the eq seems to be set up for a 4 and there is just not quite enough mids and top, to clearly pick out the octave strings. Shame
This is exectly the reason 12 string basses evolved in the 70s. Any 12 string love on here?
16. I've seen them marketed as "Flatwound feel, roundwound sound". Which seems a bit odd.
17. The TU2 has been discontinued and is now the, errrm, TU3. I have no issues with using my TU3 for bass. Decent battery life too.
18. I think bands who really cared for their fans would use B sides almost like a present for their hardcore fan base. Sadly, this became a way for record companies to flog extra singles, particularly in the CD single era.
19. When I got back to playing last year (after a 15 year break) I used joinmyband.co.uk. I placed an 'available' ad and replied to two or three wanted ads, one of which sounded promising and thats the great band I'm in. Perhaps I was lucky but it was minimal effort.
20. Would this be classed as a Beatles tribute act? (I say it isn't)- We play accurate renditions of mainly mid to late and/or lesser known Beatles songs (all written by Lennon/Macca/Harrision, no 'covers'). Our singer/guitarist sings all leads, regardless of who sang the original. Same with harmony vocals. We dress in late 60s looking clothing but do not go for a look-a-like approach. We dress the stage in a 60s/pyscadellic theme. How would you categorise that? Semi-tribute?

22.
Very much liked the groove of the band, still on the fence a bit about the vocals.
Pretty much where I'm at. Vocals sound uncannily like Disney's Snow White.
23. Anyone else see Natalie Prass on Jools Holland on Friday? Great band, great feel. Does anyone know who the bassist is? Interestingly he was playing a right handed SG/EB-0 left handed. Strung right handed!
24. I quite like the look of that. The holes are a bit 60s Ampeg 4 stringer.
