1.
You can see where the headstock has been filled.
Interesting to note that the conversion has retained the standard 4 string pickup pole piece arrangement
2.
I'd agree with the previous post. I have a Yamaha Bex semi and it's only slightly louder when unplugged than a solid. Someone is selling a Vox headphone amp on the miscellaneous page. This might be a good solution if you're not able to practise unplugged. I'm lucky to live in a very quiet house.
The problem for me is more about the convenience of just picking up a bass and it being loud enough to play without plugging anything in.
3. Hi I'd be interested to know opinions on the loudness of semi-acoustic/hollow bodied basses compared with acoustic basses. Are they a lot quieter, not much difference,...? I have an acoustic bass, which is usefull and loud enough for grabbing to quickly practice on, but pretty useless when playing with other musicians unles it's amplified. So I was thinking, I may as well replace it with a more versatile semi-acoustic, so long as they are loud enough for solo practice. (I hope that makes sense) EDIT: I'd be looking for a short scale semi.
4. I read reviews of the Squier VI that say it sounds like a baritone guitar when used through a guitar amp and like a bass when played through a bass rig. I'd imagine it'll sound not a million miles away from a 4 string short scale bass. An aside - for the sort of sonic space you're trying to fill, I wonder if you'd be better looking into 8 or 12 string basses. They are basicly 4 string basses paired with one or two octave strings.
5.
what is this black magic?
VHS will make a comeback. That and mullet haircuts on all session bassists!
6. Thanks for the heads up. I've opened a fresh E180 and set the video.
7.
Affinity is the entry level, then Vintage Modified and the Deluxe Actives are in the middle. Top is the Classic Vibe range. The prices reflect this I think.
Thanks, that's clarified it for me. I actually have a '91 Fender MIM and a Squier VM but have never bothered to see where the VM sits in the hierarchy. Incidently, the Squier feels much better than the MIM, but the MIM sounds better, but only just.
8. Hi Apologies if this has been asked or answered before. Could someone tell me how the Squier ranges (affinity, vintage modified, etc) are supposed to line up from top of the range to bottom (I appreciate that this is subject to opinion, I'd like to know Fender pitch the range). Cheers
9. Bought most of a bitsa fretless P bas from Mike. Very happy. Good communications, very helpful. Thanks Mike
10. Don't get rid of it. I gave away my first bass recently (i got it in 1989) and have regretted it ever since. I'm sentimental though. Do you have fretless? If not, why don't you defret the old bass? Giving it a unique purpose could give you a good reason to keep it.
11. I've snapped one bass string in 25 years, and that was at home practising. I always take a backup bass to gigs though. Currently, my gigging back up is a dirt cheap, 30” Encore! I dont have to bother taking good care of it so its propped up somewhere behind the backline or in the car if its a cramped stage. It's not a patch on my Fender P but it would be adequate to get through a gig. I've recently been taking an old PA head along too, as a back up for our proper PA, guitar or bass amps. Again, it'd be adequate if needed.
12. Hi Can anyone tell me if Squier Jaguars have a standard Fender/Squier Precision/Jazz neck/pocket fit? Ta, James
13. I use Fender flats on my acoustic. No complaints.
14. Kinks - You Really Got Me. Must be the most covered classic rock song.
15.
Darn missed ep 4 Austin - they are only on iPlayer for 6 days!!!
They are on iPlayer via my freeview box for a about 6 days, but if you go to BBC iPlayer via the web they are available much longer, for about 4 weeks. I just watched the first 4 episodes this week. Very good.
16. Has anyone had experience with one of the hollow body (or semi hollow bodied) Harley Bentons? Im taking a keen interest in the Beatbass - (Mccartney Violin bass).
17.
Currently I have three bcr basses- 2 warlocks (one with a reverse headstock) and an ironbird. I am desperately looking for a blood spattered warlock finish like the one in the god gave rock and roll to you II video, and would early love a mockingbird or wave or eagle come to that!! I could quite comfortably say I'm a fan!! Many sneer at these gems, but I love them to bits!!
Get some pics up, I wanna see then
18. I'm a Fender Precision, Gibson EB-2, Rickenbacker 4001 kinda man- timeless and understated basses. But... ...my love of a pointy BC Rich is a guilty pleasure. I put it down the Poison and Motley Crue posters that adorned my walls as a youngster.
19. Sorry Ash, another question. What is the exact scale length of this, I've read conflicting info on the interweb. Cheers
20.
I'm in Lancaster mate
Damn it! That's quite close to me in South Cumbria. I was hoping you would be further away and it would solve my GAS issue.
21. I'll bet the 4ohm cab has two 8ohm speakers wired in parallel. You could rewire them in series to give a 16ohm cab. That'd give you two 16ohm cabs which (in parallel) would give you an overall 8ohm impedance. Each cab would have an equal share of the 'power' (if you ignore the efficiency).
22.
If I wrote and asked nicely do you think they'd do one in Arctic White ?
Could ask them to do a non-reverse body one too? Ta
23. Hi Dunic. Thanks for uploading the vid, very useful. Can I ask you a question about the HB60? How much volume does it produce acoustically, and how's the tone? Cheers
