1. I'm a fan of Rotosounds, rounds and flats. And you can't argue with their price point* *unless it's part of a basschat discussion.
2. David St Hubbins and Nigel Tufnell both played bass on Big Bottom.
3. Just under 14k which looks below average for a 39 year old. What is interesting is that I could only hear the tone on my right ear for the last few k! Is that normal?
4. Does anyone use these flatwounds on their Hofner Violin or Club bass? I see they come in two gauges- .039 and .050. I am wondering which are closest in tension* on a Hofner to my preference for medium guage on a Precision. General views on these strings welcomed. *I'm aware that my use of the term "tension" is not technically correct.
5. I like steel flatwounds on mine. They are noticeably quiter than bronzes though.
6. No idea what it is- but I like it.
7. There's a page on Andy in the Haynes Fender Bass Manual. Of his grey Jazz, it says... It's a 1973, bought for £165 in Autumn 79. Originally sunburst with tort plate. He sanded it down and sprayed it battleship grey with car body paint. The original scratch plate was sprayed orange but it's now black (it doesnt explicitly state that it's a replacement plate). The back pickup is "very nasty and twangy". Strung with roundwound Rotosounds in medium guage.
8.
Depends - some DI boxes expect a -10dB input, some can be switched to between this and a +4dB. Do you have a particular DI box in mind?
No DI box in mind. On the few gigs I've done with DI I've just used whatever the sound engineer gave me. So, I guess that the type of DI box I'd be using would be suitable by virtue of its selection for this situation.
9.
Check the impedance and the signal level; some FX loops are line level (+4dB) whilst others are Mic level (-10dB). Have a look in the manual of your amp and see what the specs are.
Thanks for the reply. The manual says its 'for outboard rack mount equipment' but doesn't give an actual figure. However, an internet search suggests it's +4db ('professional level, suitable for rack mount equipment'). Does that mean it's the correct level to plug into a DI box?
10. In order to get my post pre amp'sound' to the mixing desk I'd like to connect the effects out to a DI box. This is instead if connecting a DI box between my bass and amp. Presumably the signal level from the effect out would be similar to that of the level from my tuner (the only 'effect' I run) which I currently have in line before the DI (which then runs into the amp). Is there any reason this isn't a good idea? My effects loop isn't the type that requires a return signal to retain an regular output volume.
11.
Bill Wyman John Entwistle
The cul-de-sac households wouldn't know them by sight. No chance.
12.
Brian May?
Ahh. Yes, I think you're right. There can't be anyone else though. Animal from the Muppets?
13.
Hendrix, surely..? And I think possibly Ringo.
Hendrix was a singer too.
14. I can't think of a guitarist or drummer (who isnt a also a singer) who I think would be recognised either.

16.
Above waist level? This fella used to, don't suppose many people pointed and laughed.
I think the Ox is the exception to the waist height rule. He's also the exception to the tastless jacket rule
17. An alternative solution?... How about anchoring the bridge end of the strap to a belt loop? A climbing carabiner might work and is quick to clip on and off. This might depend on how high or low you have your bass, but its a T-Bird- and it should be illegal to wear it above waist height!

20.
I have a Ply body and a Mahogany body, both use the same bridge......... 18mm centre to centre string spacing 54mm overall.... Cheers! Paul
Thanks Paul
21. Hello Does anyone know what the string spacing is at the bridge on the recent production versions of Epi EB-0s? I can't seem to get an answer out of Google. Cheers
22. I'm going to go against the convention that a rhythm section is just bass and drums. It can be greater when it's bass, drums and rhythm guitar. So I'd go for Duff McKagan, Steve Adler and Izzy Stradlin' - aka the three original Guns n Roses members the general public can't name. Those three had the groove!
23. I quite like that. I actually think it'd look really good upside down (played by a left hander) - its a shame they don't do a 'non-reverse' Thunderbird stlye.
24. It doesn't matter what the bassist changes- no one will notice!
