Last night at rehearsal i mentioned that these wee all coming up for sale and the drummer reckons that when Guy Pratt first went to audition for Pink Floyd, Dave Gilmour was noodling on the black Strat. Guy, waning to break the ice a bit said "Is that an old one?" to which Dave Gilmour replied " Well they don't get any older, old boy". I'd like to think it happened.
  3. I have a 199 Fender Hot Rod Precision which is my usual gigging bass and I love it. It's also left handed so it would probably be very hard (impossible?) to replace. I've had it ten years or so and I wouldn't part with it. I never leave it in the car (ever) or out of sight. I hope you find one of your own to love!

  6. I enjoyed it. I think some people appear to have missed the point - the programme was about "bass" not bass players, bass guitars, bass guitarists, bass playing icons, just bass. Hence Dizzee Rascal talking about "drum and bass". And The Marcels. And other things "bass". I thought it was an entertaining hour for a mainstream audience, not a 23 part series for purists, professionals, specialists and nerds. And I like Tina too.

  9. I bought a Warwick StarBass a little while ago, and it works for me with TI flats. Not expensive (a Chinese one) and no quality issues that I can find. I use it when we do the acoustic guitar/Cahon thing . And I do have a Tanglewood acoustic bass but I find the body to awkward unless I'm sitting down so I only use it for noodling at home.
  10. A lot of time and a lot of patience. And some money. And if you're not into social media the chances of you having any success starting and running a band are minimal if not zero. Running a band that works takes a fair amount of time and effort. It's like having a part time job. We have 20 + gigs for next year already, and that didn't happen by chance or luck but by a lot of hard work from me and the Harmonica player over the last four years. Some (most?) people do not have the appetite for the commitment necessary to make a band successful. That's not a criticism, it's just reality. Some people run bands, some people are band members the same as some people work for themselves, some people have jobs.

No crackly pots etc. One very good, one almost new condition.   13. why the DI? Surely the mixer should have a "line" or "mic" setting on the input, and if the XLR out from the cab link is line level and the desk is set appropriately it should be fine? Our guitarist uses a Line 6 Helix and the matching Line 6 FRFR powered monitor as a cab and we take a line level XLR out from the cab into our Yamaha PA to round out the sound a bit. Works for us.

I had exactly the same issue. 17's were too much for me, so I had them changed for 15's and they are fine at our normal gig volumes however when we have to drop the levels for the more "intimate" (!) venues they are still a bit much. I would leave them out but I'm extremely sensitive to cymbal "crash", so I have used only one nearest the drummer which is OK but I am thinking about getting some spare 10dB inserts. I'd have them swapped for 15's if I were you.

And every time I keep coming back to my '99 Hot Rod P as it's light, reliable, looks good (to me) and plays well. I may buy/try other things (I'v currently got a USA G&L L2000 and an 80's P too) but I'll never sell it. Having said that, I've just bought an inexpensive Warwick Star bass and I love the sound of that with TI flats. It's great for semi-acoustic gigs we do but for all electric the P wins every time. A second hand LM3 and a second hand Gen 2 Barefaced compact and that's me done. For now. Or would a tube 500 be better? And a 2x10? Here we go......

  17. ^ This. And auditions where someone says "let's just jam" have never gone well for me. It simply means that there aren't any songs that everyone knows so it just disintegrates into endless widdling. Did they not tell you beforehand what they wanted you to prepare?
