1. Yep, it certainly is, tauzero, but that's not what Fleabag is suggesting and it's his post I was replying to as above. How you play it is down to personal choice, and the OP was trying to get some opinions and then make his choice but you have to at least start off with the right notes if you're going to offer fingering advice, surely!
2. This for me. So, 3 - 1 - 4 for the riff, then as you move to the A string either leave the 4th finger there, ie 4 - 1 - 4 the first time then 3 -1 -4 or tuck the 3rd finger in and play it the same all the way through. It's a comfortable reach then back to the E string with the third finger to start again. Hope this helps! ( Thanks for reminding me about this , Steve: I hadn't playedi t for ages but have had an enjoyable time picking it up again).
3. Hmm. I thought the riff was B,D,E, B,D,E with a difference in the timing between the first and second time then similar in the other positions rather than B,D,D, B,D,E. But I may be wrong..... Like this: http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/ocean_colour_scene/the_riverboat_song_bass_1176579
4.
One thing I do like about the Fender cloth covered one that someone bought for me and I've been using for several trouble free years is that because of the covering it naturally 'wants' to curl in a way when it's being put away that makes it very difficult to twist or create hairpin bends in yet it unfolds and doesnt create loops when in use. I'm sure this has contributed to its longevity.
It's a funny old world - mine lasted not very long at all (broke up where the shrink wrap goes over the end of the connector), and I had several. A shame, because I liked the vintage vibe. All binned and replaced with OBBM cables a long time ago - no issues since.
5. Not bought much this year, only a couple of minor items. Best Thing: A new guitar lead from OBBM (who else?) with a Neutrik Silent Jack - oh the joy of unplugging with no pops or crackles or turning the gain right down (my LM3 has no mute button....). Never fancied the idea (more to go wrong...) but a much better player than me (Hi Rog) uses one and swears by it so I bought one and I love it. Simple things please simple minds I suppose. Worst Thing: An EBS OctaBass. Thought I wanted one, turns out I didn't. Plugged it in, tried it, put it back in the box. Anyone want one?
6.
we use a yamaha EMX 512SC (it's advertised as 500 + 500 watts but it's not really, RMS is more like 175 +175 watts) with Wharfdale Titans and no name monitors, always been plenty loud enough, pubs and social clubs (especially) don't want you too loud, the Yamaha is class D and as light as a feather the Titans are a different story, I'd use yamaha again but look for lighter speakers, powered speakers are ok but you have to run power cables to them all
This. We do the same but with a pair of Electrovoice SX300. it's always been plenty enough.
7.
Being run for "various charities" means it's impossible to view the registered charity that would normally be heading it up to help decide if it's something I'd support. Many charities use something like "75% of the profit goes to the chosen charity guaranteed", so after they've paid themselves handsomely and paid their buddies over the odds for all the services required the organisers still feel the need to dip their fingers in the pot and take another 25% just for shits and giggles.
It's being so cheerful that keeps you going Pete.........
8. Have I missed something? There seems to be no indication from the prospective purchaser that he is intending to buy it. He has asked for the location, has asked for the best price, and has said he will need to check before he commits to buying it. Your friend has volunteered a lot of useful information that was not requested, in order it would seem to try and progress a sale. If he has someone else interested and they make a firm offer, it's sold to them. The first one, to me, seems like simply a casual enquiry. First come, with a firm offer and commitment to purchase, is first served.
9. I've got the genuine bag for my LM3 which opens front and rear and has the side vents for the cooling fan. I always take it out when I'm gigging, because I think it just looks naff in the bag on top of my cab.
10. Yeah, the tobacco sketch. That and "Bal - Ham, gateway to the south".
11. ACS custom moulded for me via Boots. Great service. The reduction in volume took a little getting used to but I have worn them for 3 hrs at a time with no discomfort.
12. I'm with Ambient and Jack. We all say when we are "not available". All other dates are free. If someone encounters a problem, we either dep it or they have to "unproblem" it. On the one occasion when we couldn't do this and I had to go back and try and move the date of a new booking, it cost us the gig and the venue. No-one can afford that these days. Post crossed with FinnDave: I'm lucky, the harmonica player does his share. But it's just him and me.....
13.
Oddly enough i thought i had found that ideal band last year. All the guys were likeable, pretty laid back and pretty talented. Today the guitarist announced he had enough and his heart wasn't in it anymore. As he was the main founder of the band and probably the leader when i joined i didn't see the point in continuing without him so the band has folded by looks of it. So its onwards and upwards to the next project or adventure in this Game of Musical chairs. I dream of finding the band will last the test of time but as i get older i fear that the chances are getting slimmer by the day Dave Dave
Dave - I don't get this. If the rest of the band are great and want to continue, why not run an ad and get a new guy? We had the same thing with our guitar/vox who decided he didn't want to do it anymore. It was his band originally, I joined a year or two before, and the harmonica player was new. Harp player and I decided to take the band on, recruited a new front man and went out and found some gigs. We're still doing it two and a half years later. With a different drummer, but that's another story. Come to think of it perhaps we should rename the band "Triggers Broom" !
14. I like the new one! Just goes to show - different strokes for different folks!
15. Don't know about the bass effects, but I used t have a 1967 Camaro just like the one in the video and it was exactly the same colour. This is very strange, because I resprayed it myself to match the colours of the drag race team I crewed in and it is not a GM colour - it's Ford Olympic Blue! If I can find it I'll post a photo later!
16. Glad to be of assistance. It looked like just the right thing to me, so I'm interested to know how it performs - especially with a saxophone wailing away next to it!
17. Without wishing to hijack the thread, we have the same issue with anything by Wilco/Dr Feelgood - our current guy just can't get it so won't do it. The last guy could but that's another story.
18.
What, you mean turn up late without a band, have a quick run through with some local guys in the Gents toilet, play a 30-minute set and then walk off, no encores? Sounds like a winner to me ...
Having already been paid in cash up front - no money no show. Sounds great.
19. Yeah, when I started (not that long ago) it was hammered in to me by my teacher that if you get lost "go to the root note and sit on it if you have to, but don't stop or the arse will fall out of the band". And as above, enjoy it.
20. Nothing to pay as long as you buy it before March 2019. Then who knows......
21. Have you seen the THR10 that's popped up this morning in the for sale section? And no, it'snot mine or anyone's I know!
