Advertising for a soundman on the internet is a bit like putting up a wanted ad for a decent plumber. They are right there- they have websites, they want your work.
You obviously don't live in West London ... plumbers don't want your work, they want you to beg them, on your knees, to PLEASE come and fix something trivial for an unbelievable amount of money.
Looks like I might have to drop out as I'm on call
You took one look at those pedals, and you thought: "I'm outta here ..."

So if you had a slab body P-bass, presumably the instrument would wear a contour through your forearm?

Stage monitor which is small, powerful and high-quality?
Another thing, with these mounted on mic stands with the mic mounted as per usual, do you not get any bleed through the mic from the speaker output? Any feedback? They seem very close...
If you're using a decent mic (in my case either a decent Sennheiser or an SM57) then the foldback is coming from the mic's blind spot and there isn't a problem. You do need to be careful with your mic technique though - if you put you face where it 'reflects' the foldback into the mic then yes, you can get a brief spike of feedback. The EQ control on the WPM-1 (and I guess on the others) is basically a tone knob, but is surprisingly effective at removing those spikes. -
I also played a 70s P the other week in Denmark Street, it was the most amazing sounding P I've ever played. It had rounds on it, and burped and growled like nothing else. Trouble is it weighed so much I doubt I'd get through 1 song. So short of my ringing Vintage and rare and asking what strings it had on it. Any recommendations?
Not been Vintage & Rare for a while - it's now NoTom Guitars. Was that the Precision with the sarcastic "Lightweight" tag on it?

Oh Mark! That poor bass! That poor, poor bass!!! What did you do to it?

BASS PLAYER With a talent for improvisation and an ear for memorising tunes. With a love and capability of playing almost any kind of style from slap, funk, the Blues and tear-inducing ballad styles to bone thumping heavy metal power chords in the style of Whitesnake, Ozzy Osborne and Gary Moore. A keenness for experimentation with FX pedals, feedback and brutal power chords is also desirable. And the ability to wow audiences with performances of energy, flair and charisma. I'm fine with that ... if only because I'm driving my Vito onto the Park laden with the entire band's equipment, and I have to drive it home later! My two concerns are Paul Well I had to try them all didn't I The Drums and Si You're my besht hic! friend MacDaddy. I've been using my Matamp for about a year now, running through a Barefaced 69er usually. The volume control has never once got past 12 o'clock. For many of the pub gigs I play, I still use an OTB500 into a Barefaced Compact or Midget. That never gets past 12 o'clock either!

Great to see you still hang out on Basschat, Ross, and some very tight playing there. Back over in NYC in three weeks ... might well drop you an email and see if anything's happening on a 'free evening'.
Never heard that phrase before. What exactly is ringing out the room ?? Guess it's sending different signals to see where the limits are but like I said that's just a guess. Intrigued.
Google it ... there are some very good YouTube demonstrations of how to do it properly. Note that you need a 31-band EQ to do it in a meaningful way. For a pub band, that's probably overkill.

I've used a Sabine (the earlier version of this: http://www.thomann.de/gb/sabine_fbx_2410.htm ) for the last five years. I treat it as entirely 'fire & forget'; it lives permanently in the signal chain and I never even glance at it. I bought the 2-channel version so that I could have it run independently on the monitors channel and (since this is a pub band after all) on front of house. Both the lead singer and I use personal monitors mounted on mic-stands. In the last five years, the only feedback issues we have ever experienced have always been traceable to them, and they're the only parts of the system not going through the Sabine. I probably shouldn't admit this, but we never ring out a venue. Ever. We've never had a need to with the Sabine in the loop. I've heard good things about the Peavey Feedback Ferret too. Currently on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sabine-FBX-2400-Dual-Feedback-Exterminator-/321443624080?pt=UK_MusicalInstruments_Other_Pro_Audio_Equipment&hash=item4ad7887490 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEAVEY-FEEDBACK-FERRET-D-/181445141979?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Outboards_Effects_MJ&hash=item2a3ef925db

Why is it that certain topics are so utterly predictably going to turn into train wrecks?
