1.
Have you thought about inviting the guys from MythBusters?
Well THE-E-E-ERE'S your PROB-lem!
 2.
I have been out today (don't do that often) and stocked up on quality tea bags and milk for tomorrow!
If he asks for milk in his Earl Grey, then he's probably not quite right ...
 3. In the interests of verisimilitude, you should of course insist that they each set up by the door to the gents toilet ...
 4. I seem to recall that the vendor (Tune-o-Matic) has some history ...
 5. Also check out the SGC Nanyo Bass Collection, especially (if you can find one) an SB320 with P/J configuration. Helluva lot of bass for the money (prob. £200 -£250), very light, well-balanced.
 6.
I`d spend at least 30mins of the time allocated chatting to them. As well as how they play, you need to get on with them. Agreed a 30min chat won`t make the decision of best buddies, but you can usually get an inkling of their character. Ask about transport, work, family, other musical commitments, gear, willingness to travel etc.
This is spot on. It will take you just five minutes to establish whether or not they can play guitar, but five months to learn whether or not you actually like being in a band with them.
 7.
is anybody can give me an email address of Brian Short please
You could just phone him and ask for it?
 8. Keith doesn't always play the two-sticks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFG8WWD1AtA
 9. Glad to see that someone has finally mentioned strings! Maple -v- Rosewood is nowhere near as important (IMHO) as flats -v- rounds when it comes to a Precision.

 11. Those Grendels were a serious amount of bass for the money, lovely instruments. I just can't get on with Jazz basses, but if there had ever been a Grendel P-bass ...
 12.
.. I'm over 4 hrs from Galway ...
Why am I thinking about Gene Pitney now?
 13.
ysee now its in black and white Im thinking I should really make the effort.
http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc208/DMurder138/bass-1.jpg
 14.
Isn't the Phil Jones bass buddy pump out 5w power as well but the head can be use a preamp?
Correct, although I seem to remember it was actually 10W. With a sensitive cab (e.g. a Barefaced Midget) you can get a surprising amount of volume from that, even without valves.
 15.
... and is quite a light weight too.
A tad more specificity, if you please, Paul. While you're at it, is this active or passive? (Looks passive to me, but no harm in asking.) And is it the 'P' or the 'PZ' model?
 16. Sorry to be a wuss but that's a minimum 5-hour round-trip in a van on a Sunday, with the alarm set for 6am on Monday. Looks more and more like what we need is DBB North and DBB South ... I may have to organise DBB South just to make sure it happens.
 17. Is it a genuine vintage tea-chest bass, or is it a new relic'd version? The tea they used in the 60's was quite different, and had a wonderful tone.
 18. I always take the opportunity to post this ...
 19. That wasn't you in there mid-afternoon with your lady (reddish hair), noodling nicely on a fretless was it?
 20.
The standing on a bathroom scale method is also way to imprecise to be much real use if you seriously want to know what a bass weighs, not least of all because bathroom scales are not calibrated precisely enough for you to see what the difference is . The best thing for weighing a bass is a proper industrial postal scale , but they are expensive to buy .
Pish and tush. How many people own an industrial postal scale, let alone carry one about with them?
How about those spring loaded jobs that fishermen use? You wouldn't expect them to be miles out (unless they were sold to provide 'enhanced' weights ) They must use decent ones when they are having proper competitions and the like. You'd think a good size carp would be in the ballpark of a bass (no fish puns please) so they might be in the right range?
Exactly my thinking some years ago, Kev, which is why I bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fishsense-Weighlite-Fishing-Scale-and-Measure-Weighs-Up-To-65lb-With-Batteries-/350846649199?pt=UK_SportingGoods_FishingAcces_RL&var=&hash=item51b017036f The scales themselves weigh only a few ounces and I frequently take them to bass bashes and even occasionally to shops, they are as accurate as they need to be to satisfy dedicated fishermen, the hook thingy at the bottom is perfect for tuners, and they have been borrowed several times by other Basschatters. This "no way to weigh" issue is a problem with no excuse for existing. Incidentally, I'm astonished that Michael has had to explain why the weight of a bass is important to him. One thing that has changed about Basschat (for the better) in recent years is recognition that some of us are actually a bit older than we used to be, and that very few of us are professional weight-lifters who think nothing of playing a 3-setter with a 5Kg boat-anchor slung over our shoulder. If you're a bass-player who has no back problems then congratulations and long may that continue. Sadly, it won't be for ever ... your lumbar region is waiting (weighting?) for you, lurking in a shadowed doorway with a baseball bat, and ready to totally spoil your whole day.
 21.
Goodbye Well-wishers bid adieu as Discreet departs for atelier in his float-plane 'Bessie Mae'

 22.
... there are enough differences between instruments that mean my black Gus performs much better with a slightly heavier gauge of LaBella Steels than the ones I use on the CAR Gus.
Black has always been associated with heavy, in music, whereas Candy Apple Red even sounds lighter-weight.
 23. That is a catapult on top of the flightcase, right? Can't help but feel there's a story in there somewhere ...
