My new wireless Guitar System from Xvive
Happy Jack replied to MacDaddy's topic in Accessories and Misc
Hmmmmm ... you might be better off trying a length of wire with a jack plug at each end. Radical, I know, but it just might work. -
Am I wrong in wanting to learn the set/songs properly?
Happy Jack replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
I'd rehearse the set list over a couple of practices and record them. Then go home and identify any dodgy ones and create a songs to revisit list. (Or just put a cross on a list when you play a song that needs work as you play them) Then spend a few weeks just going over those ones. Might give everyone a bit of focus and renew the direction.
Good ideas, but you seem to take it as read that TheBrig is the band's MD and call the shots at rehearsals. Just saying ... -
Fender announcement. No more rosewood 'boards.
Happy Jack replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
I would struggle to list which of my basses had which sort of fretboard and I can't remember a time when it mattered a damn to me. I own basses with fretboards made of rosewood, ebony, maple, pau ferro, ebanol, carbon fibre, and triple-ply toilet tissue. OK, I made the last one up. When I play my various basses with their different fretboard woods the sound is amazing ... it's always ME. Suffice it to say that I will be losing no sleep over all this, -

Yup. If you have accumulated a number of dusty pedals that seemed like a good idea at the time, then now would be the right moment to drag them, blinking, back into the daylight and remind yourself what they all do. The pedals I have found most useful are chorus (natch) for generally thickening the sound, the Fishman Fission Powerchord to provide instant rhythm guitar (ish) during long guitar solos, and one well-chosen fuzz/distortion pedal according to taste. Obviously your playing style may need to change, busier lines, perhaps more octaving, etc. but do be careful not to stray into any of that awful "slapping" nonsense that the young people of today seem to be obsessed with. It's not big, and it's not clever.
... what's it sound like and what's the neck profile/string spacing like?
Always dodgy territory, trying to describe a sound. Closest I can get is a Precision with SD 1/4-pounders and the tone wide open. It's a bass with some real presence. The nut is 1 5/8", string spacing is 19mm, all very familiar territory.

https://daytrippin.c...t-one-straight/ Neck has been properly reset many years ago and has no joint problems. Floral logo retains all its mother of toilet seat. Lovely bit of wood, that. No idea what caused that 'mottled' effect. Loads & loads of photos here: http://s1128.photobu...01959%20CURRENT So that's the good news. And the bad news? Well, this bass is so old that it pre-dates trussrods in Hofners. Over the years the neck has bowed slightly and there's not a great deal you can do about it, certainly not if you want to keep it all-original. Played down by the nut there are no issues, but if you want to do chordal work at the 12th fret then you will have some major problems with intonation. Also, the tiny screws holding the control panel in place have long since worked through the wood, leaving the panel free to fall out of its socket. This would be a really easy thing to fix if you wanted to play this bass live on stage. I don't, and fixing it would again impact on the whole all-original thing, so I've been happy to leave well alone. The bass is kept in a big impact-moulded plastic case, designed for a rather larger bass, and is cushioned in bubblewrap. I'm not prepared to post a piece of history like this. The bass is collection only from either Harrow (London HA1) or the West End (London WC1).

I bought this off eBay a couple of years ago (http://basschat.co.u...e__hl__shergold) and it's a truly delightful bass, but I just don't seem to be playing it ... too much competition! It's all original apart from the refin, which is exceptionally nice. I can't say that it plays like butter, since it never leaves grease on my fingers. I'm selling this in a decent gigbag, preferably with collection from either Harrow (London W1) or the West End (London WC1). P&P would be extra. I'm offering this here on Basschat for a week or so at what I paid for it (although I'll be down a gigbag). Then it will go back to eBay.
Cold itself will cause no harm but temperature changes will cause condensation which is not good for anything that may corrode or for electronic circuit boards or many loudspeaker cones.
This. ^ I can't be arsed to carry my PA tops from van to studio and back again at every gig, so they live permanently in my old white van parked on the street. I've worked that way for years now, and those PA tops work and sound the same as they ever did (they're McGregor 1x12). I'm more reluctant to leave electronics in the van, but I often end up doing it (especially after a late gig) and again I've never yet had problems. I very rarely leave basses in the van, but in truth that's got more to do with their nickability than because I'm worried about them getting cold.

The aforementioned Gramma Pad will do the job for you. Very simple, very effective.

Wot, no new Beatles film and album thread
Happy Jack replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
It was a cover of a Beatles song that got me into bass playing. Heard this song, looked at the album sleeve and thought 'What's that thing?'. My course was set.
Far Canal. I never realised that Bill MacCormick's brother was actually Ian MacDonald! -
You could easily play Yellow River on that ...
