The original text reads: This Limited Edition Fender American Special Precision Bass has a beautiful sandblasted crimson red transparent finish as well as all the acclaimed sound and style of the archetypal American Special Precision Bass. The sandblasted finish is one of the most alluringly unusual treatments yet seen on a Fender instrument, leaving the grain pattern wonderfully textured with parallel ruts and grooves in which the black grain-filler coat shows beneath the blue finish coat. The bass is also finely appointed with American Standard split single-coil Precision Bass pickups, Volume and Tone controls, along with a slim "C" shaped Maple neck with a 20 fret Maple fingerboard. It's undeniably one of the most striking finishes ever seen on a Fender, attracts loads of attention wherever it goes. Light and surprisingly resonant ... or maybe not surprisingly. Absolutely glorious, unusually lightweight example, in pretty much immaculate condition. A tiny amount of buckle rash, after 43 years. One significant mark in the paint ... why is it always just there? And for full disclosure, one more visible mark. Beautiful plumage, the 75. Black & Maple. Yum. Collection from HA1 3RG or WC1E 7BD.

This is what I originally bought: Lovely wood, crap pickup, messed-about electrics, dodgy tort p/g, useless tuners. This is what it looks like now: Lovely wood, a pair of beautiful Lollar P/J pickups which sound unbelievably lush, professionally re-wired electrics, anodized p/g, proper elephant ears. In case you're wondering, the flick-switch is a DFA Control. Controls are Volume / Pan / Tone. That headstock guarantees that your bass is safe at any pub gig. No one is going to steal it, thinking it might be worth a fortune. Collection from HA1 3RG or WC1E 7BD.

This has been an almost impossible colour to capture, and that's the only photo I've got that's really close. It's kept very good company while it's been with me. Does that A tuner look a bit wonky to you? There are some tiny scuffs and chips here and there. After 35 years, it's not a great surprise. Collection from either HA1 3RG or WC1E 7BD.

Can I just express a doubt about holding this in Southampton? There's not much point holding a bash in a big town or a city - it just makes the traffic worse and the prices higher. In addition, both Southampton and Portsmouth can be a bit of a bugger to navigate if there are any traffic problems or big summer events going on ... it's all that water, y'know. Hampshire has some lovely smaller places which are just as easy to get to, and where our custom may be more welcome to the venue. Think Winchester, Andover, Alton, etc. I'm also a bit puzzled at the idea that we might get 10-12 people. Nik's Shoreham bash a few years back attracted more like 30 IIRC.

This is an entry-level bass and, as is so often the case, surprisingly good for the money. Not a lot to say about it really. It's a Precision. It says Tenson on the headstock. It plays and sounds as a Precision should. Given how cheap this is, it makes little sense to incur despatch costs. So I'd prefer collection from HA1 3RG, or possibly from WC1E 7BD.

I have the Nano and it's great ... so long as you really, really mean to restrict yourself to four or five pedals, or if you're happy routinely re-building/re-configuring your board between gigs. If you can't be sure about that, you'll need something bigger. Power supply? Easy ... check out the Diago Powerstation. Great product, and it's British, and they do excellent customer service & backup. Flight cases seem like a great idea until you have to lug one in and out of gigs. The flightcase will routinely weigh four or five times as much as the fully-loaded board. The empty flightcase is also a bloody nuisance at gigs. There are some very good pedal board + protective cover things out there, and the pedals themselves only really need protection from rain ... they're designed to be stamped on!

In fairness, there were about five basses around at the time with remarkably similar appearances, all from different Japanese manufacturers. I've often wondered if that was the main reason that SGC Nanyo failed ... they were up against the likes of Ibanez and Yamaha, and their products didn't look particularly distinctive.

Yup, you'll have no problem taking an XLR from your DI Out socket to the board, whilst also - if you choose - driving your normal bass rig. You should also have a Pre/Post switch on the DI Out which determines whether what goes to the board is affected by your settings on the amp.
