1.
that brings back memories- I used to rehearse with a covers band there back in 1994 - the rehearsal studio was like a shed in someone's garden, and the roof would leak dripping rainwater onto the floor by the bass amp. hopefully it's improved a lot since then.
me too, when I lived in Iver, just up the road from Langley, the band I was in, used to rehearse in the shed out the back garden from the shop. That would be '90-'92. I recall the shop staff being really friendly too - I bought a Hohner Jack bass and an Aria fretless 5 off them during that time and I dont remember what their openening hours were but I recall somebody coming down to re-open the shop so I could collect the 5 on the way home after doing a couple of hours overtime at the airport so that would have been around 7.30pm. and I miss living in Iver .... it was a lovely place to live
2.
i love it, as has been said the graphite neck makes a massive difference, i dont think i could go back to wooden now
a tenner says you will your Blue dawn 5 is very nice btw I had a trans teal 2 band Ray with an early Status graphite MM neck (truss rod adjuster was behind an inlaid plate on the f/board itself). It was a cracking bass. stupidly sold it though
3. yes I am on there but I post on the guitar side more. my tag on the musicman boards and on talkbass is kompressaur. I know who you are on the ebmm boards by your avatar/sig cheers Keir
4. excellent! that trans teal is a beauty! be sure and post pics Keir
5. Mods please move this if its in the wrong place,I'm not sure where this should go as the bass isnt mine but theres a guy on the MM forum who lives in Cambridge looking to trade his trans teal/maple SR5 for a maple necked SR4. Cracking looking Stingray 5 and the guy seems genuine(despite his single post) given that he is looking to meet in person and drive half way to meet etc. http://www.ernieball.com/forums/music-man-...ng-ray-4-a.html Dont know if its just me,but it comes across as a deal someone just has to jump on if you were looking to sell your 4 and get a 5 (and save you a lot of hassle in the process) Theres not much doing this side of the pond on the EBMM boards so a good opportunity to get in there. If you dont want to register at the EBMM forum I'd be happy to make contact with the other fella and pass on contact details etc
6. amazing! I forgot about those. Bass Central had one up for sale iirc theres a story behind the bridges on these, Is it that they are 20 years old and were supposed to be the first ever 10 made for the SR5? wish i could remember and I cant be arsed doing a search on the EBMM forum at this time of the night
7. Musicman BFR bass porn I would like to own one day, same finish or trans black http://www.music-man.com/instruments/sterling-bfr.php
8.
Thanks they are rather nice. I was going for a blue burst one but i rather like natural ash too. I still prefer my SUB bass, it's a very similar sound but the SUB has that extra bit of oomph, the G&L does play nicer though...
just goes to show how we all perceive tone differently - in a band setting I found my Asat (same electronics)had much more oomph than the Sterling(ok a teeny little less bottom end than a Ray)I had at the time. No weak G on the G&L and in series with both p/ups on its huge sounding,in parallel with both on it has a great slap tone,in series on the neck p/up in passive mode you can get a woody P sound and in passive/bridge pup and parallel a not too bad burpy J bass sound (new USA L2Ks now have a single coil switching option which can only improve on an already great range of tones) In isolation/solo'd they may not be spot on in each case but when in a mix with guitars and drums the L2K/Asat do a great job on these standard tones imo.
9. I sold one exactly the same as this to DLloyd on this forum back in february of this year. they are great basses! congrats!
10.
Gotta come clean - I was that masked man - it's a NS5 XL in Quilted Maple and looks stunning. Apologies Dubs for beating you to it... Came with full strap locks, that must be the difference between the Euro and the NS - a small price to pay me thinks Thanks to TheDontCareBear and Cetera for the heads up via this thread... Will get some pics up soon.... P
no worries though I swear I had my card out last thursday afternoon for it. I thought what the hell, its only a grand good score Platypus, it must be inspiring to own and play! I'm still lovin my Euro 5's in the meantime btw for anyone who's interested, I'm pretty sure that Paul Roden at Glasgow in the bass dept, has an amber Euro LX4 which he had tucked away (possibly for himself and offered to me) Its a lovely bass and I had a play on it in the store last week when it was brought out of hiding. If anyone is persistent enough and it hasnt gone back on the wall and sold then I'm sure they could snag it. Paul is off this week but Danny or David Scott should be able to help out. Tell them Keir told you it exists in the back room. it may be the last one at £499 across all the stores
11. in April of this year I had these the Sterlings are gone so just the SR5 now and also these (a different kind of porn but still porn all the same) Albert Lee Steve Morse
12. I'm glad this has gone-it was doing my nut in. I tried and tried to raise the funds for it but came up badly short every which way still the flipside is I can now put petrol in the car, food on the table, pay my council tax etc

14. +1 on Bill Nelson. 20 odd years ago I bought his album "Chimera". Loved his work ever since.Massively talented and even more prolific. other guitarists I like for being a bit different are Robin Simon(Magazine/Ultravox),John McGeoch (RIP)(Magazine/Banshees) Will Seargant (Echo & The Bunnymen) Johnny Marr (The Smiths,Electronic etc)and Charlie Burchill for his early work with Simple Minds Drummers I like would be Steve Jansen (Japan) and Budgie (banshees) from a songwriting point of view...John Foxx (saw him doing the metamatic album at the Barfly Glasgow last year and it was fantastic)the guy from Anthony and the Johnsons and The Blue Nile I'm not really up on other instruments but i always liked Andy Mckays sax and oboe on the early Roxy music stuff and Billy Currie's keyboard and violin with Ultravox
