  1. I had the exact same model for a while last year. Local musician wore me down and twisted my arm for it. It was a great partner for the LB-100 which I bought from you around the same time. This one has nice straight grain in the ash. I know I would have one of these over a MiM Fender. Great basses. GLWTS!
  2. Met Neil this evening when he bought my MusicMan Cutlass. Easy deal with good comms. great fella to deal with and even bought me a coffee. Would happily deal again and highly recommended, a credit to the forum and an all round good egg and stand up guy. hope the bass serves you well Neil🙂 Keir
  3. That neck is insane
  4. My new to me Classic Sabre. Waited a long long time to finally get one and after setting it up I am extremely happy with it.
  5. Bought Lukus’s Classic Sabre from him after travelling down to London. Lukus met me at the train station and was great to deal with. His Sandbergs were awesome, just a shame I didn’t get any time to play them before I had to head across the city again. Would deal with Lukus again no problem. Top fella with some good knowledge of basses in general, and from my point of view, welcome insights into the brands he has that I don’t. Great day out which was extremely worthwhile. Thanks again Lukus😎
  6. Beautiful😍 I’m hoping to be reacquainted with all things Sabre tomorrow after a twenty four year absence. If I wasn’t picking that one up this one would have had me PM’ing you. GLWTS!
  7. BUMP for Price Drop. now £850 with case or £800 with MusicMan gig bag. would take a Lakland Bob Glaub, 44-64, Sandberg Electra or similar value P bass in part exchange or possible straight trade for USA Sterling 4H/G&L SB-2 or Sandberg California prefer VS4 or VM4 and prefer gloss finish would also be interested in a Lakland 44-02 Dlx as I have just caught the Lakland bug 😊 thanks for looking Keir
  8. Seems like a lot of bass for not too much shekels GLWTS! edit : just noticed the date 😐
  9. Just owned a USA Sterling for a short while and sold it to help out another bass player after one. After a number of years not owning one, it was noticeable to me just how ridiculously good they are. The neck and tone, the ergonomics and the playability were just fantastic. I’m GASsing hard for another one.
  10. Both the following threads have basschatter reviews on the Sterling 4H https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/6399-musicman-sterling/ https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/215245-ernie-ball-musicman-sterling/ fwiw I’ve had four of them and just sold one to help out someone after their first USA MusicMan. Upshot is he loves it and I’m Sterling-less again. Great basses, can’t speak about playing with a pick so much but really rated it for finger style. The USA Sterling has the signature MM tone but with a little bit of extra grind and a couple of extra options via the three way switch. It’s your left hand that gets all the love though. The neck shape and feel is fantastic imo. I’ve yet to play a better neck Keir
  11. MusicMan Cutlass finished in ivory white with vintage tinted maple neck. Comes with MusicMan hard case. My scales say it weighs just over 8.5 lbs edit: nut width is 1 5/8” or 41.3mm and the fingerboard radius is 7.5” Full specs on the MusicMan page https://www.music-man.com/instruments/basses/cutlass-bass Great sounding/playing (and discontinued) P type in near showroom condition with no structural, electronics, cosmetic or playability issues. Can box up for shipping though would prefer buyer to arrange their own service, level of cover etc. Could possibly meet if you’re in the midlands or thereabouts. I will likely withdraw the Cutlass if the bass I’m after on here sells. thanks for looking Keir
  12. Just sold a Pearl blue Sterling to help another bass player out and I am already choking for another. The smaller, sleeker body, the extra grind of the ceramic over alnico, the smaller headstock, the 3 way switch, the rounded heel shaping and the neck……that neck…..well for me the Sterling neck is simply the best neck on any bass. period. It really is a thing of beauty!
  13. Karlfer thanks for the reply and yes these are really excellent basses. Sorry will amend the original post to reflect the colour not being some form of limited edition. Just followed a number of other adverts and a video on you tube which claimed rootbeer metallic was a limited finish. Itsmedunc if you fancy a change let me know 😌 And warwickhunt the only weight I have at the moment is when I measured it earlier and it was bang on 9lbs on my digital scales. I’ll try and get another reading too and see what that says.
  14. Thanks gareth. Yes, these were made in the G&L plant in Fullerton, California. As versatile as they are, I sometimes find the MFD pickups a bit too dark sounding which possibly has had an influence on my decision that only a couple out of my last half dozen USA and Tribute G&Ls have had them. I’m not knocking them merely stating that I like G&Ls with a different sound too. This one reminds me of my old Spector Euros a bit but without the tonepump clipping. Seems enough headroom with the EMG BTC though I believe there is an 18v mod for more
  15. Wider spacing between the pickups and the back pickup is closer to the bridge on the Valenti when compared to my Lakland Skyline 44-60 so more like 70s spacing. With just the VTC and no active bass or treble and the with blend pot in the middle there is definitely a ‘wider’ sound than the Lakland. Hard to quantify I guess but the sound has more of that ‘hollow’ two pickup slap tone to it.
  16. Super playing bass. Action was ridiculously low when I had it. Almost played itself Huge amount of bass for the money. GLWTS
  17. Yes I’ve been in touch with Lukus re this bass but until something of mine sells I’m out😞

    Jazz

I’ve just put the Valenti up for sale to make a particular purchase but it has been nice having both around this week. The Skyline’s neck shaping, fretting, action and general feel is excellent (my first Lakland)
  19. **NO LONGER FOR SALE** 2014 Fender USA Dimension Deluxe HH In metallic rootbeer finish. Twin humbuckers with five way switch and three band active EQ, Fender deluxe tuners and Fender high mass bridge. Compound radius fingerboard with carbon graphite rods in neck. Comes with Fender case. No structural, electronics or playability issues. Couple of small marks on the back and a couple on the side, some light scratching in places visible from certain angles. Some light buckle rash on back. Pickguard has the usual scratch marks. Edit: now £850 with case or £800 with MusicMan heavy padded gig bag. would take a Lakland Bob Glaub, 44-64, Sandberg Electra or similar value P bass in part exchange or possible straight trade for USA Sterling 4H/G&L SB-2 or Sandberg California prefer VS4 or VM4 and prefer gloss finish would also be interested in a Lakland 44-02 Dlx as I have just caught the Lakland bug 😊 thanks for looking Keir
  20. **sorry now withdrawn as I have come to my senses** Valenti #146 by Nino Valenti, NYC, USA. https://www.valentibasses.com This is my second Valenti and I planned on keeping this one. (Always regretted letting the first one go) Only problem is that I now have a lead on my bucket list bass and I need to sell something to get it. Otherwise there’s no way I would even entertain this going. Swamp ash body finished in translucent white finish. Contoured heel and narrow radius chamfer on body edge. Bound maple neck with blocks. Hipshot hardware. Aguilar single coil pickups with Sadowsky preamp with VTC (vintage tone control) for passive tone + active bass and treble. Superb, pro instrument put together by ex Sadowsky employee Nino Valenti. Balance is perfect, very light, great sounding pickups with a studio grade pre amp which sounds classy. Effortless to play. Action can be gotten stupidly low if you want. No structural, electronics or playability issues with the bass. Comes with gig bag. Valenti’s price list now shows a Modern 21 fret J bass price starting at $2800. I believe the bound and blocked neck, trans white finish and Sadowsky pre amp are chargeable upgrades on this base price. Edit: a couple of points of note 1. The pickup covers have hairline cracks in them from being over tightened by previous user. This is purely cosmetic and I will either fit replacement covers or adjust the price slightly. 2. I had the blend pot re wired for normal operation. Full clockwise for neck and full off for bridge. Sadowsky have theirs back to front so that turning it full on gives the bridge pickup and more mids. I couldn’t get on with it like that as it was too illogical so it has been re-wired by my tech back to what my brain can comfortably deal with.
  21. ***No longer for sale. Keeping it*** edit: I have unexpectedly come across the certificate of authenticity, owners manual etc while sorting through things after my house move. Pics attached. 1996 G&L L-5500 bass with G&L hard case. Ash body with quartersawn maple neck with graphite reinforcement and rosewood fingerboard. G&L saddle lock bridge and G&L tuners. This model was produced in small numbers in the mid 90s while G&L were getting their 5 string MFD pups ready for the L-2500 and was the model which corrected a lot of the shortcomings of the previous L-5000 (narrow nut width and tight string spacing) This bass has EMG dual coil pickups (iirc EMG40 DC )and EMG BTC active circuit with 2 band EQ. This pickup/preamp gives the bass a very clear sound which suits a wide variety of genres. The plastic on the knobs is starting to perish slightly in places and the pots could do with a quick spray of electrical contact cleaner. Condition wise, there is tarnishing on the neck plate as pictured, there is some buckle rash and some crazing in the finish on the back of the bass though front is very clean apart from a couple of areas which have slightly dulled when viewed from certain angles. Overall in very good condition for a bass now a quarter of a century old. A peculiar oddity is that at some point the pan pot has been changed to be the wrong way round. Not sure of the thinking behind this but like the Sadowsky way of wiring the blend control, I guess it’s retraining your brain into thinking that turning it on full clockwise brings on more mids and bite for soloing etc. Anyway it’s illogical imo but I haven’t got round to having it changed. the bass weighs just over 11lbs so fairly substantial as they all were. Bass can be auditioned in Market Drayton, Shropshire or could possibly meet Stoke, Crewe, Telford, Shrewsbury areas or depending where you are. I’ve just used my last shipping box so posting could be a problem at the moment. I’ve got my eyes on something else and if I buy that, chances are I’ll have another shipping box 🙂 thanks for looking Keir NO LONGER FOR SALE
  22. Very nice indeed but having checked my bass fund, I’m a fair bit short. Which is a shame😞 GLWTS!
  23. Bought Peter’s Lakland Skyline J bass from him this lunchtime. Really lovely bass, couldn’t be happier with it and how it stayed unsold so long is completely beyond me. (If I could have made a deal work three months ago it would have been mine then) Anyway this is a great Jazz bass and I’m tickled to finally get my grubby mitts on it. Sat and had a good chat about basses and it was great talking to someone with a great knowledge of the instrument we all love and what were his preferences and the kind of things he looks for in his bass choices. could have chatted for ages but alas, a return journey across the Peak District beckoned for me. Anyway Peter is a great guy to deal with and a credit to basschat methinks. Thanks for a smooth deal Peter and I’m sure we’ll trade another time in the future (similar tastes n’ all that) plus we both agree that the USA EBMM Sterlings are just fantastic…..‘nuff said! all the best Keir
  24. Seems loud for a passive bass and the OMG setting is such a great tone - like a dub reggae tone on steroids. The bass is lovely, fit and finish is a tad higher than the regular USA production basses imo Maybe not to the extent of the MusicMan Classic series v regular but feels to me that bit more lush than a Fullerton Standard or Deluxe. Yes. I got the last one I believe😎 Pharaoh gold was the only colour left but I like garish G&Ls ( I once had a silver flake L-2000 and also a gold Asat bass too) and it’s probably the colour I would have wanted anyway so all good. The price was a complete no brainer.
  25. And also my L-5500 (again)
