Do you tell your work colleagues that you play bass?
Dood replied to mentalextra's topic in General Discussion
Yep, I do. I tell them all. Every single one, just to make sure. it's my bass guitar that pays my wages, so it's kinda necessary! He he! -
Dan, if all else fails, we'll all gather at the Hartke stand, then!
That sounds good to me! It'll be so cool to catch up with everyone again! I'll probably be wearing BC colours

I'll be there too! Once again I'm hanging out with the awesome Hartke UK team!

Hmm! Interesting! So, all drivers installed and up to date and you have license manager installed and linked to your machine and device. I'll run through the steps egg-sucking style how I'd set up to see if anything is different with your machine. I'm running a Mac but use the same method with my windows machines. Plugged in to the GX, even before loading Reaper, you should get at least a visual of input signal in the app when you run PodFarm (1 or 2.5) stand alone. (Not the plug in.) If you have no input signal there, then Reaper definitely won't work. If you do have signal, then load up Reaper and head to OPtions>Preference>Device Select your GX and click OK. Next up add a few track channels in the DAW then click on the input box on each track channel to get a drop down menu. Just to test the theory, I'd select Stereo>Inputs 1&2 for track one and then Stereo>Inputs 3&4 for track two. Click on the red 'record' symbol on each track channel. I'm hoping that as you are now monitoring the outputs from the GX, when you play you should see some signal activity in Reaper?

Thank you! I think it'll be firmly on my chrimbo list - or the xmas sales list! heh!

I think looking at the cost of the OP blenders VS building something with the extra control, it's not going to be worth pursuing, which is a shame. I firmly believe that using SMT it'd be easy to fit the extra few components (and a couple of preset VRs instead of one large pot) in to the small enclosure. For example, you only have to look at the amount of 'stuff' crammed in to a Mooer pedals to get a feel for component count. The Mosquite could be the way for now then! - If only my Audio interface didn't need replacing first lol!

I've been using* PodFarm and Reaper for a very long time. I love Reaper and it works with everything I throw at it. Ok, so firstly, tell me what you're doing and I'll see if I can sort out what's going wrong! * I've disconnected my UX1 now as Line 6 still haven't fixed the driver problems with OSX's Mountain Lion upgrade. I'm looking for a new interface as we speak. PodFarm however is really good for roughing out demos etc so hopefully it'll be something simple to fix for you!

Trace Elliot Cabs - ID and Price suggestions please!
Dood replied to Gamble's topic in Amps and Cabs
Trace Elliot did dabble with PA gear too (as well as guitar gear) so could the top cab be part of their PA range? -
I've been having a look at the Duet along with other 'small form factor' interfaces and wondered if anyone has any experience with the Tascam IU2? http://www.musicradar.com/gear/guitars/computers-software/peripherals/input-devices/audio-interfaces/iu2-562042/review Looks great if it can be used with both iPad/iPhone AND Mac/PC. There has to be a catch right?

Online guitar lessons/resources (or a book) - recommendations please.
Dood replied to Marvin's topic in General Discussion
Http://www.licklibrary.com is a great resource. They are the biggest online tuition resource for guitar, using downloadable videos and DVDs you can order online too. Every style imagineable, though the site gives the initial impression of being rock orientated. They are sister to Guitar Interactive Magazine (http://www.iGuitarMag.com) too, which is free to read every month and also features video lessons for all levels. -
If you don't find what you're looking for you could compromise by turning the volume up a bit on the pedal in the loop and turning the blend down slightly if you wanted to achieve an overall volume boost with the blender engaged!
I think that is what I will have to do - but that wouldn't be able to boost the clean channel too. I am assuming that at the ends of the mix control's travel will be 100% dry counter-clockwise and 100% wet fully clockwise, without any additional gain when the pedal is engaged. I'd like to be able to do that, so the LS-2 may well stay for now, unless I can snag myself a Mosquite going cheap!
Ask him to do you one without the scrawls? Or repaint it!
Sadly, scrawls or no scrawls, Dave said that he would be unable to make such a pedal for me that could include the additional gain control in the same sized box. He was cool about it though.
+1 I think that one looks like an earlier model, mine was China and it was silver/grey, but also came in a wooden box, not rackmount.
Later models (including current) are black and blue like the one pictured and are made in China. So, it's hard to tell visually from the front. I *think* that later models have an effects blend knob on the back, maybe earlier didn't, but don't quote me on that I have a current 5500 as well as the Kilo and they are great lil amps!
No,you can't have both on at once-when you turn one side on,it turns the other off.
poopie! lol. Ok. Shame as I think paired they could generate some rather nasty noises
Obviously to get the full 500W output you need a 12AX7, not an AU7, but there we are.
I'd say that although the gain was lower in the AU7, as long as your bass output was high enough, then using the gain control on the front of the amp, you'd easily be able to get your level up accordingly. That said, I'd ask why anyone would want to put an AU7 in to the pre of an LH head, unless it was purely for the sound of the valve. Backing off the gain on an LH head is actually a bit pointless, as it's not designed to distort or overdrive in the first place. Even with my basses with a very high output, plugging in to the non-padded input still kept things clean. My fave AX7 / ECC83 in the LH head was a premium JJ. I *think* it was an ECC83S, cheap and pretty silent with a nice presence that sounded a lot clearer and articulate than standard Sovtek 12ax7wa's which in comparison always sound a bit stodgy.
There was a guitar tutor at my music course years ago who would take a left handed guitar into the room and attempt to play it. He did this if there were any students who felt embarrassed to play in front of him, he'd put them at easy by showing that he too couldn't even play a note once. By making a fool of himself they would be more at easy. Amazing how confused you get when trying this. Your brain just doesn't work, you'll be lucky if you can even get your hands to move, let alone play a note.
Lol, in fact i did this last night too! I often use these kinda 'demonstrations' in my lessons for the same reason. Lots of laughs usually follow!
I've been looking for another distortion pedal (well, more overdrive really),despite already having the EMMA, Pigtronix and a EHX Bass Big Muff. I was looking at all the funky stuff and was very tempted by Fuzzrocious and Wampler, and I was leaning towards the Xotic BB Preamp. But....the other day I tried a pedal on a whim and bought it there and then-an Ibanez Jemini. What a great pedal. It's got a really good overdrive channel, based on a slightly modded Tubescreamer, and a good distortion channel based on Vai's modded Boss DS-1. I was expecting it to have a lot of low end loss, but with the tone knobs you can dial in quite a lot of low end if you want. I think I'm going to be using this pedal quite a lot.
I'd seen the Jemini pedal and did wonder what it'd be like on bass. Can you have both halves on at the same time?

I had a new bass student over last night. He was left handed but plays violin right handed. After a lesson analysing his technique and lots of questions about what he found easiest, we concluded that his playing was stronger playing a *right* handed bass!

They said they'll do it for me tomorrow when they are 'back in'. Sounds like id gotten a reply outside of working hours .
