1.
It doesn't matter.Fender,Spector,Warwick,Mike Lull,anything.....get a bass you like and play it. You play the music, not the bass.
Yup, totally totally totally agree. Get a bass set up well that you are really comfortable with and concern yourself with making music on it, not it's price tag * *leaves before Jessie J gets sung out..
2. I've just reviewed a Danelectro Longhorn for Guitar Interactive Mag - and I have to say, you could 'shred' on it easily with it's cute lil bass neck! Heh, I really liked it!
3. Soap bar pickups do come in various sizes of 'rectangle' but I feel sure that you can find a suitable model to install. My favourite soapbar pick up is the EMG DC. I've been using them for years. A larger casing and they are active, but EMG do a passive version too. I really like Delano pickups and they have a great range of pick ups with many options available as well as different casing sizes. I'd certainly research all the big brands. There's plenty to choose from. Dimarzio, Delano, EMG, Seymour Duncan, Nordstrand, Wizard, Aero, Bartolini, to name just a small selection.
only problem for me is that Goebbels lacks the menace of Dood.
Also true. Never mess with the predator and his bass. 5. Hi everyone, I'm reminding all users of the Marketplace forum to reacquaint themselves with the forum guidelines, including the 36 hour bumping rule described here. The moderation team is having to spend too much time chasing up unnecessary thread 'bumps' when there's plenty of other work that needs doing on the board. I realise that the 'market' is a bit slow at the moment - this is the same for everyone and this happens from time to time on the forum. However, forum users are not daft and will happily search through recent posts for what they are looking for. Any posts that break the 36hr bumping rule will be deleted without notification.
6. Looks amazing! No, no, I'm not biased, I just know Jon makes incredible basses and here's yet another example of his eye for detail and flawless workmanship. The guy is one of he best builders on the planet!
7. Jon Shuker can build stunning guitars as well as EUBs and all manner of wonderful basses too
8. Likewise. This thing is not a toy. I bought mine because I thought it was gonna be a nice cheap unit for a function band job, but after one gig it got promoted to my main rig. It's brilliant and I love having a pedal board instead of a rack system these days! Waaay better than I could have imagined, by TC Nova System hasn't left the house since getting the B3!
9. The Kingstons are nice basses, though not spent as much times as I'd like on them for a decent review for you sorry. I've been a 6 player for a lot of years now. My cheap recommendations for you would be the original Tobias Toby Pro 6 (not the Bubinga bodied version) or the Spector Euro LX6. Both have chunky-ish necks but sometimes come up for a crazy bargain price. The Yamaha 1006 (i think is the model) is a great starter 6 string as are the mid-range Ibanez sound gear models. I played a cracking Spector Holoflash 6 bass ages ago. I really liked it, but I'm not sure of the model number. I think it was a Q6, now discontinued. I love playing 6 strings. I'm a fan of a closer string spacing (around 16mm). Don't feel that you *have* to get the same spacing as a four string. On some basses, i think that it's not as helpful as you may think! Fat and very wide necks can be unwieldy with a high action! Oh and the usual comments about not being able to slap as well on a 6 are nonsense You might have to adjust your technique a bit, but it's perfectly do-able
10. It pains me to see this ad mate! I have an acoustic kit in my teaching 'zone' and given the funds would grab this kit in an instant as a replacement; I travel to Kent often. I don't usually like posting 'oh if only' responses, but this is a fiiiiiiiine piece of kit! Good luck with the sale! - I'm asking for a windfall tomorrow please finance gods! Ha! A free bump because the video features my mate
11. Well, I think that's pretty cool. I think it's easy to forget that a massive amount of work goes in to developing and delivering a touring show. It's a shame you can't post too much information about it, but can understand why. Nevertheless, it's great to have heard a bit about it. So it was mainly for lighting, or stage power / FOH too? Either way, it sounds like a massive set of plans!

Hartke LH500
I've just taken delivery of a second hand LH500, bought here on basschat and it has possibly the least number of controls I've ever seen on an amp. Four control knobs marked 'Volume', 'Bass', 'Mid' and 'Treble' and that's it. Am I right in my assumption that the 'Volume' control attenuates the amount of signal from my bass passing into the preamp and then onto the power amp? Most amps I've used in the past have had an input gain control, which attenuates the amount of signal going into the preamp and then a volume control which attenuates the amount of signal passing from the preamp to the power amp. Interestingly, I recently watched a an 'AmpegTV' video on YouTube which demonstrated how to set the levels on an SVT-CL. To get a loud, clean tone, they recommend you wind the ouput volume level control all the way up then control the volume with the input level control. On the LH500, it looks as though they've decided to remove the 'wide open' volume control and allow the user to control the volume by varying the input gain. I may be way off the mark but I'd be interested to hear other, more informed BC'ers thoughts
This is correct, the volume control is actually the gain control for the preamp. The preamp is wired directly to the power amplifier with no master volume control. As you say, it's like the master is all the way up. I've had a few Hartke amps..I still have two and the LH is the cleanest, punchiest amp I've owned. (lH1000) highly recommended.
13.
Not a lot of love for Muse on this forum........ I recently designed the power distribution system for their latest tour. I am really proud of it and wish them all the best
Am I the only one who thought this was a rather cool and impressive job? Without you, things would be a bit dark and quiet, right? lol! Tell us more!
14.
I wouldn't want to be in a band with anyone who uses there where they should be using their. P
Likewise.
15. Thank you! I've replied
16. Price is UK delivered, by the way.
17.
Update for anyone else looking at trying midi. The Peak midi switch arrived, and i had it controlling my rack gear in 10 mins flat. i programmed a couple of banks to change the patches on my PSA and a couple of banks to lay my effects, seperately on top of those. Much easier than I had hoped. Thanks to Dood for his help with this.
No problem at all Chris! I'm a bit of a geek, but I'm happy to share!

19.
Man alive! Rehearsed it today... Sounds brill. Plug n go. Sounded great without fannying... And the most even tone across the entire bass I've ever experienced! Top of the neck on the G string still sounds big and fat and the big open E isn't swampy, it's crisp and tight... Totally went straight to the top of my go-to bass list. I can highly reccommend this bass if anone is fence sitting... It has exceeded my expectations by quite a margin.
Superb! Well happy to hear it! - I have to say, that in my 'job' I get to play some amazing high end basses and I still can't figure how Jon manages to make basses that are truly amazing at his quoted prices he has stuck to for years, usually lower than those on his website. The guy will never be rich, he's waaaay to generous! I love his basses and he is an amazing chap too. We've already designed my next Shuker. The spec is a total peach!
20.
Just took ownership of "Suite 16" My one-off (Serial number "16") Shuker JJB PBass. The Black Headstock, rare Rosewood board and mirror plate was my personal request, and as it was to be a "Special one off" Jon agreed! It plays like the best pbass ever, and tomorrow I shall get to hear it at volume... I'll let you know!
Beeeeyooootifullll! Congrats!
21. Naturally, I have to mention my band mate, Thomas Lang but also my friend and UK session pro Craig Blundell - both playing styles I think are fantastic!
22. I write the bass department in Guitar Interactive Magazine and this OP is something I am very aware of. In every gear review I have done since we started the bass department last year, I haven't 'shredded' once. I play very simple and sometimes repetitive bass parts as it's the gear under review, not my playing. I will do examples of finger style, or maybe chords and a smattering of slap in order for the reviewer to hear in the videos how the bass, amp or pedal sounds. I know my gear - I'm a geek lol but I also know that those reading my reviews are interested in the equipment, not how widdley the reviewer is!
23. A super fast purchase with Mike - Thank you for the expression pedal - arrived well packed and super fast!
24. Would you be interested in selling the expression pedal separately? PM me a price, as I have a B3 that would jolly well like to be paired with such an addition!
