1. Ahhh! Doug is a legend! There's this video I have of some buffoon jamming with Doug quite rightly, the guy on the left keeps it simple for the man to do his thang!
2.
If I'd bought that from the shop I've bought most of my gear off I'd be asking - and I know I'd get - at least a 10% discount........ and the missing candy, especially the spanner is just not on, it kinda proves your suspicions. If it was sold at less than RRP (as was) then they still have to make it clear that it's been used/ex-display up front.
Yup, certainly eBay shops are not meant to sell guitars that have been hanging in shops as new, only 'shop soiled' or 'used' i was told by one particular chain. I'd bought a bass but wanted to know why it was marked as soiled. The shop sent me photographs of it in pristine condition and were very up front with me saying that it had been hanging in the shop, hence the substantial price drop. Distance selling laws allow you to send the item back if you are not happy - and given the condition of the instrument, I'd name and shame and send it back if they sold it to you as a NEW guitar. It's not on and the distributors would have a fit about it too. Shops should be discouraged from taking the p*ss out of customers.
3. Excellent! 1 vote for the Roland - that I am yet to hear a bad thing about. Though I take on board your point about the headphone out. I tend to sub-mix to an external mixer so that may not be a problem. It might be a 'nice to have' though. so the Focusrite gets a vote too!
4. Ok, after pretty much giving up on my current interface - or rather the company who manufacture it that are having a hard time sorting out drivers for Mountain Lion, I've been on the look our for something small and simple to replace it. Spec-wise, these both are getting great reviews, but I'm not sure which I want as of course I can't test them first. Well, not easily! So, here's my shortlist: Roland UA-55 Focusrite 2i4 Both have two analogue inputs, balanced and 48v available. Both have direct monitoring that will be very handy too. The Roland has digital ins and outs too that I could make use of in the future maybe, though less important. I thought I needed extra line-ins, but to be honest I've never used the ones on my current interface. The Focusrite I think comes with a suite of plugins n' stuff whereas the Roland has the ability to record at higher rates. Prices can be about the same but I don't know which I'm leaning toward most. Some say the Focusrite has a particular sound to it that actually works well for recording Bass. The Roland on the other hand is said to be flat sounding having less of a character. Kinda concerned that the Focusrite character might not be my bag and I'd be stuck with it. At least I can add to the Roland if I wanted to. So there's a few thoughts out loud - I welcome your responses! p.s. Mike 'Urb' Flynn has been very helpful and offered up some wallet-melting options. I would LOVE the RME Babyface that he has just gotten or even the Motu he is selling, but my budget has just shrunk substantially - those on FB will know why!
5. Cool, I didn't realise the plug-ins were available separately either! NICE - Happy to help!
6. Install the DAW called Reaper. Its free to download and features a whole host of really good plug ins including EQ. The program is available for download in full and is not limited, however after 30days you'll get a 5 second nag when you open it, but still no limits to operation. It's brilliant - one of the best DAWS for features. I bought the full license within a couple of days I was so impressed and have been using it as my main tracking DAW, though I also use Logic Pro and most of the other DAWs.
7.
Try pro steels out
+1
8. I'd suggest getting a 110 for the Drop D string and standard gauge for the rest - the only set that I can think of that comes with these gauges as standard that I used to use for many years is the Billy Sheehan signature Rotosound strings. He often uses his Hipshot D-Tuner to drop to a D on the 4th string but the 110 isn't too heavy when pulling back up to E. I did much the same until I moved straight on to six string basses. It's a brilliant set with a slightly lighter G string at .043.
9. When it comes to the note choices, then an electric bass either fretted or fretless can easily 'do' what an upright can, but when it comes to the timbre of the instrument, well things get a little more difficult. I think there's quite a few electrics and semi-acoustics that try to emulate stand up bass and do a great job. Finally, feel i think comes from the player, not the instrument and thus, as my old IT colleagues would say, SISO* *sh!t in, sh!t out.
10. Yep, I do. I tell them all. Every single one, just to make sure. it's my bass guitar that pays my wages, so it's kinda necessary! He he!
11. This is HiFi and really sorry, you're not just pushing boundaries, it's in the sticky for items we can't advertise here. Will have to remove the post. Pm'ing
12. Yup, still here! I meant to bump it ages ago! PM me and we'll get it in to Santa's bag for you
13.
Dan, if all else fails, we'll all gather at the Hartke stand, then!
That sounds good to me! It'll be so cool to catch up with everyone again! I'll probably be wearing BC colours
14. I'll be there too! Once again I'm hanging out with the awesome Hartke UK team!
15. Hmm! Interesting! So, all drivers installed and up to date and you have license manager installed and linked to your machine and device. I'll run through the steps egg-sucking style how I'd set up to see if anything is different with your machine. I'm running a Mac but use the same method with my windows machines. Plugged in to the GX, even before loading Reaper, you should get at least a visual of input signal in the app when you run PodFarm (1 or 2.5) stand alone. (Not the plug in.) If you have no input signal there, then Reaper definitely won't work. If you do have signal, then load up Reaper and head to OPtions>Preference>Device Select your GX and click OK. Next up add a few track channels in the DAW then click on the input box on each track channel to get a drop down menu. Just to test the theory, I'd select Stereo>Inputs 1&2 for track one and then Stereo>Inputs 3&4 for track two. Click on the red 'record' symbol on each track channel. I'm hoping that as you are now monitoring the outputs from the GX, when you play you should see some signal activity in Reaper?
16. Thank you! I think it'll be firmly on my chrimbo list - or the xmas sales list! heh!
17. I think looking at the cost of the OP blenders VS building something with the extra control, it's not going to be worth pursuing, which is a shame. I firmly believe that using SMT it'd be easy to fit the extra few components (and a couple of preset VRs instead of one large pot) in to the small enclosure. For example, you only have to look at the amount of 'stuff' crammed in to a Mooer pedals to get a feel for component count. The Mosquite could be the way for now then! - If only my Audio interface didn't need replacing first lol!
18. I've been using* PodFarm and Reaper for a very long time. I love Reaper and it works with everything I throw at it. Ok, so firstly, tell me what you're doing and I'll see if I can sort out what's going wrong! * I've disconnected my UX1 now as Line 6 still haven't fixed the driver problems with OSX's Mountain Lion upgrade. I'm looking for a new interface as we speak. PodFarm however is really good for roughing out demos etc so hopefully it'll be something simple to fix for you!
19. Trace Elliot did dabble with PA gear too (as well as guitar gear) so could the top cab be part of their PA range?
20. I've been having a look at the Duet along with other 'small form factor' interfaces and wondered if anyone has any experience with the Tascam IU2? http://www.musicradar.com/gear/guitars/computers-software/peripherals/input-devices/audio-interfaces/iu2-562042/review Looks great if it can be used with both iPad/iPhone AND Mac/PC. There has to be a catch right?
21. Http://www.licklibrary.com is a great resource. They are the biggest online tuition resource for guitar, using downloadable videos and DVDs you can order online too. Every style imagineable, though the site gives the initial impression of being rock orientated. They are sister to Guitar Interactive Magazine (http://www.iGuitarMag.com) too, which is free to read every month and also features video lessons for all levels.
22. A bump! Cute lil distortion pedal needs new home - would make a great stocking filler
23. Any interest folks?
24.
If you don't find what you're looking for you could compromise by turning the volume up a bit on the pedal in the loop and turning the blend down slightly if you wanted to achieve an overall volume boost with the blender engaged!
I think that is what I will have to do - but that wouldn't be able to boost the clean channel too. I am assuming that at the ends of the mix control's travel will be 100% dry counter-clockwise and 100% wet fully clockwise, without any additional gain when the pedal is engaged. I'd like to be able to do that, so the LS-2 may well stay for now, unless I can snag myself a Mosquite going cheap!
Ask him to do you one without the scrawls? Or repaint it!
Sadly, scrawls or no scrawls, Dave said that he would be unable to make such a pedal for me that could include the additional gain control in the same sized box. He was cool about it though.
