1. Indeed it sounds great. I love the extra fatness achieved when mixing this and a blended distortion together, but still being able to achieve that 'kick drum punch' that you'd usually lose using a distortion pedal that by it's nature naturally 'limits' the signal also.
 2. I am a project and team leader of a media based project delivering sets of workshops to participants with complex and special needs. The project, based at the prestigious Snape Maltings in Suffolk is very specifically designed to meet the needs of the participants. We use music and other media (along with quite ground breaking technologies) to create a brilliant environment to deliver our workshops and showcases each term. The project is a huge amount of fun for all involved and is ran by a very experienced team. We concentrate on using the project to build key and soft skills, (communication, confidence, life skills for example), delivering training and mainly, showing how easy it is to derive a huge amount of enjoyment from making music. I've proud of this project because it really is so rewarding. Our end of year shows have been truly stunning. Community Music is very important and it makes me sad to see that some really great worthwhile clubs are having to struggle due to cuts in funding. 3.
No, parallel compression is a completely different thing from changing the attack on an inline compressor. You can (and probably would) set up parallel compression with a (far) faster attack than you can an inline compressor, since the dry signal is going to contain all the transient info you will need, so you get all the benefit of that nice juicy spike with all its associated top end and so on, whilst at the same tame beefing up the meat of the sound as soon as the spike is passed. Even then this is a very differetn thing from carefuly regulating attack, since you tend to have enough of the dry signal to convey dynamics as if there were no comrpessor running at all. Its quite tough to describe precisely why and how it can be so different, but I promise it is (sorry!). Because the compressor is parallel you can 'get away' with far more overt compression than with an inline comrpessor, with all the benfits of massive amounts of compression (really fattened punchy sound) with far less overt side effects (diminished dynamic range, and asssociated nasty feel to playing into a really smashed compressor, implications of compressing the nuts out of the transients leading to a far darker apparent timbre than you want etc etc). Upwards compression is not striclty speaking, exactly the same as parallel compression, although there are similarities, to the extent that a lot fo the time people suggest parallel compression in place of upwards compression.
A great description! Better put than my post. - I totally agree and that's exactly why I use it. Really 'squishy' compressors with a blend work really well. Certainly units based on the 'Ross' compressor with the added blend control (and sometimes a way to soften the attack) adds a really nice warming effect to HiFi sounding basses and is certainly one of the reasons I am interested in pursuing further. loop-blended with a nice bass distortion I think it'd be a great pairing.
 4.
Would you agree that Made In Japan still means quality, though ? Some of the best made instruments I have had in my hands in recent years have been made there , and I think that the Japanese don't just talk a good game when it come to making things properly ; more often than not they deliver something made as it should be . Made in Japan is a mark of quality nowadays , and has been for a long time . As you point out , that isn't going to come cheap anymore . But four grand ..?
I am very very pleased with my 'non-export' Precision. I did buy it when the price was low, but even now, it still stands up against current priced premium european models.

 6.
Rumour is Aria was set to commission FujiGen to build these reissues. Did you see anything mentioned in the product literature to confirm this? Or did it go back to Tokai?
I can't remember! I have to admit. I'll find a link to my reviews later too.
 7. Hmmmm, its gonna be hard to make a call now that everything else has been exhausted. Certainly if you have ruled out amp, cab, battery and cables, then there's only a few bits left. I cant see the jack socket being to blame so will point my suspecting finger at the preamp.
 8. The pickups *are* active types, right?
 9. I wasn't aware of that, so no, i'd assume it'd be ok. A possible fault then? Have you inspected the electronics to make sure they're untouched? Next up will be bypassing the pre to see if its a problem with the active pickup or the preamp.
 10. Ok, I think the EMG pickup's output is too hot for the preamp. I've heard of this happening before. Indeed, my EMGs on my bass can easily overdrive some pedals, so I have to be careful. The design of EMG pickups is actually that they shouldn't be that far away from the strings anyway. They use weaker magnets to cut down on 'string pull' problems and 'wolfing' in guitar pickups then use a high spec internal preamp to boost the output back up. The instruction I believe do actually say to raise the pickups close to the strings. So, in short - no, the pickup shouldn't be that low. - It's time to grab a different preamp me thinks!
 11.
I tried out the black distortion pedal the other day. Quite nice, but did remove a fair chunk of low frequencies, plus adding a lot of mids as well. Ideal for guitar solos, but not so much as a bass drive - which I`m sure it wasn`t made for anyway.
I'd like to hear one with an LS-2 to blend that bass back in, especially if it adds some mids in.
 12. Hi, my name is Dood and.. I ... I... You'll have to bear with me... ok, I can do this... I am Dood and I am a G.A.S-oholic
 13. Is it an EMG preamp?
 14.
I've seen a review on TB that suggests it's good for mild overdrive ... any views on that ? I think I must be misunderstanding mooer's use of the word 'pure' if this delivers overdrive.
You can set the gain to zero and use the volume control as a 'pure boost'. The EQ is really great actually. Can make a passive P bass sound round and plummy - or boost more to turn it in to an active groove machine. I liked that a lot. However, yes, the Pure boost can get gritty by driving the gain control higher but pulling the volume down in comparison. I think this would work very well as a boost in to the front of a valve amp to make the first gain stage distort further. Quite touch sensitive too for a simple little pedal. Definitely read as mild though - it's never going to be a Metal Zone!
 15. Oh - I guess the other thing is board real estate. The smaller the better. In fact, half of the Nova Dynamics would be perfect!
 16. Nothing at all! It's an amazing pedal - I sold mine. DOH!! - They are a bit like hens teeth though. Having thought about it, what I'd really like is either Zoom to update the B3 to six effects at once or for them to finally bring out the MS-50B that was 'rumoured' with pictures earlier in the year. I'm slightly obsessive about my signal chain and I would like to maybe leave the Be to add 'extra effects' and maybe have one or two pedals to set my 'always on' core tone. Something I do with a bunch of Boss pedals. The MS-50G could take care of that for example - but of not, I really like the idea of that tiny compressor pictured above to add a bit of squishy in to my tone!
 17. Thank you! I've seen Billy Sheehan demoing the original Philosopher's Tone pedal by Pigtronix that has a distortion section as well as the blendable comp. i'll check this pedal out now!
 18. It's great to see a musician obviously getting a great deal of passion out of playing an instrument but at the same time really delivering a superb performance. Doesn't matter what age or ability, I get inspired watching a musician lost in their moment. It reminds me why after nearly 25 years, I've never put the bass down.
 19.
It's a typographic error. They've actually been crowned "Britain's Hardest W@nking Band". Explains how they stay in shape. I guess they must switch arms every few weeks or something to maintain symmetry.
I saw earlier today that they had an advertising campaign with their faces on condom packaging. Maybe they enjoy the 'posh' variety then!!
 20. Excellent Discreet - I'll take a look at those too.
 21.
Thanksf for all the suggestions guys. Have managed to pick up an as new 4.5" wide Richter Springbreak for good money, so hopefully I'm all sorted.

Sold it on as it wasn't grippy enough for me. However, having spoken to Lars at Richter he's going to send some straps to Phil at Bass Gear for me to try out! The quality was certainly there, lovely straps.
I was about to ask about straps wider than 4" - Will need to look in to these too!
 22. That's a really good idea actually. Noted!
 23.
Not many controls on that Dood, especially with the high output on your basses I would want to try before you buy.
Exactly the reason for me enquiry! - I think this one has dip switches inside to pull back the input gain - but yes, with my rig, I'd need to try before buy.
 24.
Haredst working is debatable and clearly has not direct link to number of shows headlined. The correct headline would be; JLS have headlined more major concerts than any other artists in 2012
Which would still be incorrect - unless the few bands mentioned are the only ones that the 'award people' have ever heard of or listened to from underneath their rock. The headline should more likely be: JLS have headlined a relatively small amount of gigs but win the award for making us the most amount of money in comparison to any other artists in 2012.
