1. Hi all! Ok! I lept on the super deal advertised recently on BassChat to buy discounted Mooer pedals. I chose to try out (before hearing them on Bass) the Pure Boost, Green Mile and Blade Metal Distortion. I've ran them through my normal rig and pedal board to see which I like best and have decided (as per my review thread) that one can stay and two are up for sale. Both are brilliant pedals, absolutely brand new. I took them out of their boxes and tried them with my studio speakers and also my bass rig to select which I want to keep. They are in perfect condition and I am giving you exactly the same deal I got mine for, which of course is a bargain!!!! - You'll see they are about £50 on eBay. I will let you have both together delivered for £50! Here's the details: The Green Mile: Website details: http://www.mooeraudi...tInfo.asp?id=29 2 Working Modes:Warm/Hot Warm: Reconstruct a warm tube drive tone and nice dynamic response of classic tube amplifier, it provides a natural, smooth, creamy overdrive sound Hot: More powerful output than Warm mode, mighty crunch tone ŸFull metal shell ŸVery small and exquisite ŸTrue bypass ŸDC 9V Adapter power supply Effects Modes: 2 (Warm, Hot) Input: 1/4” monaural jack (impedance: 500k Ohms) Output: 1/4” monaural jack (impedance: 10k Ohms) Power Requirements: AC adapter 9V DC (center minus plug) Current Draw: 7 mA Dimensions: 93.5mm (D) × 42mm (W) × 52mm (H) Weight: 150g Website DEMO: and here's the Metal Blade pedal: Website details http://www.mooeraudi...tInfo.asp?id=38 3 Working Modes: Lo Boost/Boost Off/Hi Boost Lo Boost: Boost a narrow band of high frequencies a little bit. Boost Off: No boost is engaged. Hi Boost: A higher amount of boost is engaged Full metal shell ŸVery small and exquisite ŸTrue bypass ŸDC 9V Adapter power supply Effects Modes: 3 (Lo Boost, Boost Off, Hi Boost) Input: 1/4” monaural jack (impedance: 1M ) Output: 1/4” monaural jack (impedance: 470 Ohms) Power Requirements: AC adapter 9V DC (center minus plug) Current Draw: 20 mA Dimensions: 93.5mm (D) × 42mm (W) × 52mm (H) Weight: 160g Website DEMO video Parcels will be shipped 'tracked and signed for'. 2. Ok, so my 'not so technical' testing has had the following results! Brief: Attempt to use small form factor pedals in place of 'Boss size' to make room on my pedal board for more stuff! I have tested: The Pure Boost in place of my normal EQ pedal. The Green Mile as an 'always on' option for adding mild dirt to my signal. The Blade Distortion pedal to replace my Boss Metal Zone for 'all out distortion'. The results are as follows: The Pure Boost is really good. I'm not sure what the centre for the bass control is, but for adding depth, a small adjustment goes a long way. I've also seen a way of attenuating my Zoom B3 signal slightly using the PB too. So this one stays. The Green Mile is actually brilliant and I am very tempted to keep it, but I kinda wanna try out the 'Rage' pedal now, for just a touch more drive. So, this lil puppy is going up for sale now. The Blade Distortion is brutal, but I bought the wrong pedal. I should have gotten the 'Rage' pedal I think. As I use a loop pedal, I need to pull all the highs down whilst not affecting the lows. Gnarly noises in a small box, but this one is going up for sale with a view to getting the Rage instead. Overall review: Metal cases, built very well indeed I am sure they'll have a long life on any pedal board. I think the foot switches feel positive with a good solid clunk when you push them. The controls have a quality feel to them with no rubbing or need for undue force to turn. Yeah! Really like them! - I might still get that little bass EQ as well. - If I get a micro-looper *and* the Mooer EQ, I will sell my Boss LS-2 and Bass EQ pedal. So, off to advertise the pedals in the MarketPlace now. EDIT: Here! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/192019-mooer-micro-pedals-green-mile-and-blade-metal-distortion-l28-each/page__pid__1869562#entry1869562
  3.
Cheers for that Dood. Possibly adding that to the list of incoming Mooer's as soon as sanity disappears for the evening.
See above, lol!
  4.
Thanks Dood. In all the clips, the Green Mile sounds very tame and soft to me, although that's not necessarily bad if you want gentle dirt.
Just about to run it on my pedal board this eve!
  5.
Ages ago a bcer drew me this to explain making a reversible adapter for running EMGs at 18v. Can't remember who for credit:
I've seen 'homemade' adaptors for sale on ebay too and indeed, they are the same as your diagram. A really easy way to boost to an 18v circuit - and as you say, reversible too!
  6.
Thanks Dood. I'm tempted by the green mile for guitar use - it seems to be a nice soft grainy overdrive, rather than a sharp-edged and crunchy one - and I'd also like the black secret Rat clone. I took the chorus along to a music practice tonight (come back to find it has finally sold this evening) and it actually sounded pretty good in a big environment with more volume. I'll shortly order an elec lady & trelicopter and am debating a compressor and one of the above drive pedals. I also want a couple of Joyo Tech 21-style preamp pedals for recording direct, probably the American and California. There aren't many pedals that will do the early Boogie style tone like *some* clips of the california have managed. The American can do a nice clean Fenderesque amp tone. There's quite a few clips of these pedals but many of them sound muddy and messy because they're being used as simpe, dirt pedals instead of preamps.
I have to say, I was hoping for a wee bit more gain out of the Green Mile. It's really nice and I think that it's intended use of driving the front end of a guitar amp (especially with valves) it will do a great job. Standalone for me on bass, it *could* be a little tame for my needs, but as I say, that will depend on further testing! - Tonally though, It's nice
  7. Gareth, I've found that the 12 o'clock setting for the tone controls doesn't appear to be exactly flat. But a small turn clockwise adds boost very quickly! I set mine with the gain control at zero then used the volume control as my boost. I have been able to clip the pedal with my active EMG pups (which are already very hot) in this setting. Winding the gain control up and the volume down, I was able to distort the pedal gently, but I have to say, it wasn't a nice crunch, more of a 'bass valve drive'. Headroom, there appears to be a softening, a bit like a sovtek preamp valve when you get close to the pedal limits, but actually that's quite nice. I like the frequency centres for the two tone controls, though I'm not sure what they are. I'd take a punt on a shelving bass control of around 100Hz and maybe around 4Khz for the treble. A guess mind!!! I'd happily use this pedal as an outboard preamp for a passive bass. Yeah, I like it. Possibly keeping this one. Less sure about the Blade though. I think I should have thried the Rage pedal. The green Mile *will* need running with my rig to make a decision on that too. The Boss Metal Zone is still a keeper at the moment.
  8.
I did it on one of the Spectors. There is a difference but it is not massive. Perhaps there was a little more headroom but nothing substantial. IMO of course.
I'll go with that - Certainly I noticed more headroom and iirc, I had more punch from my slapped bass low end- again, probably due to having the extra headroom. Oh and if nothing else, you'll have waaaay more time before your batteries run down low enough for the preamp to stop working completely. i.e. if the preamp can no longer function below 6v (for example) then it'll take longer to get down there from 18v than it would from 9v.
  9. I've had a massive 30mins so far to try them out. I bought the Pure Boost, Green Mile and Blade distortion. I haven't ran them in the loop of my LS-2 yet, but i initial testing suggests that the Pure Boost will stay and the Green Mile for subtle drive. The jury is out on the Blade at the moment unitl I have put it in to my pedal board signal path. It's difficult buying pedals having not been able to test them first - certainly a leap of faith really. Any pedal that isn't specifically 'my thing', i will offer up on BC for sale with the same huge discount I got. If neither distortion works out, then I will get a micro blender for my current distortion then sell my LS-2 as well.
  10. OFFERS invited - Serious ones - nothing daft! You know what these babies are worth!
  11. My three have arrived - now to see which ones will make it to my board!

    New Zoom B3
In all fairness dood... you're basses do have a VERY hot output
Guilty as charged your honour!! - But, in my defense, they are just a standard 18V EMG pickup and preamp combination, so I guess others could suffer the same if they push the EQ gains a bit.

    New Zoom B3

Message back from zoom about clipping the inout of the B3:
Dear Dan, Thank you for your reply. We consulted to our engineer for the B3. The B3 can't fix with firmware about the input volume. It needs to improve the hardware for hardware limitation. Therefore, please connect the preamp or volume pedal before the G3 if possible. We hope you will understand the situation. Sincerely yours, ZOOM CORPORATION ===================
So essentially, they suggest using a volume pedal or additional preamp to attenuate the input. Not ideal, but do-able. Even a simple passive volume pot in a box I reckon!
  14. I can haz bumps.. thx bai!
  15. Hi, Dood here once again with news this time from RockSchool, the accredited provider of rock and pop graded exams for bass players! (oh and those other musicians too... but not drummers. Ahh ok, so drummers can get involved too.. heh) The usual place, the 'blog' tab at the top of the screen or link: http://blog.basschat.co.uk
  16. I'd like to tag on to this thread by asking also which is the better of the ipad interfaces out there? I'm leaning towards the Line 6 Mobile In interface, though i know the Apogee Jam is also good, yet doesn't come with the likes of Line 6's 'pod-like' software.
  17. Yup, i agree with the above! The B3 is getting a lot of love. I've gotten the expression pedal for mine and am looking forward to setting up some cool new sounds! Yep, really like all the features of the Zoom so that gets a +1 from me.

  19. Actually, whilst I'm here, I'll see if I can recall my basses too. Not a long list mind. My amplification has changed massively in comparison though! Marlin Sidewinder Washburn B?? 21. Oh, here! http://www.iguitarmag.com/magazine-editions/iguitar-magazine-issue-12/reviews-(1)/elixir-coated-stainless-steel-and-coated-nickel-plated-strings/ there's a video in the mag too.
  22. I've reviewed them vs the enhanced nickel strings in Guitar Interactive Magazine. The mag is free to read online, but my poor brain can't remember which issue! They were really good.
  23. I'm expecting Nick Smith along sooooon
  24.
Dood - about 11 days in my case. Ordered on a Sunday afternoon and the post office had tried to delivery a week on Wednesday. I suspect they pool ordered and do a mass shipment once or twice a week.
Cheers fella! Appreciated! - Think I'll await delivery before looking at any others, but still hovering over the EQ - then it's time to look at replacing the LS-2 maybe!
