1.
Headphones aren't necessary. The key to that is to NOT listen to the drummer. Set the groove. The drummer is going to go off but when it comes time to hit a downbeat, he'll be listening to the bass.
Absolutely this. Convention in pop music for example suggests everyone follow the drummer for time keeping, rhythm and cues. It doesn't have to be like this and Jazz as an example often moves the responsibility to other members to allow the drummer or percussion to express themselves freely. I've done exactly this kinda thing with many talented drummers. Being able to root that pulse and hang in there without the urge to walk over their spot can be cool in context when delivered well. Although on occasions the solo has been a bit 'out there' and you sometimes wanna rein them back in a bit. I love my prog so I find clever polyrhythms and rhythmic devices interesting and at times challenging but I personally would shy away from stuff that misses the point of the song.
2. I'll get some more 'photos up if anyone would like. You are welcome to come play this one - you'll probably end up leaving with it! Superb instrument - I can even have it set up ready for your playing style. Check the description and ask any questions. I'm not planning on putting on eBay as I would rather sell to the BC community. Shipping can be discussed also. Drop me a line!
3. Anyway, dragging the thread right back across that line.... What will the future bass gods be? Once upon a time, before the internet they were slaying stadiums of fans, but now, do they even need to leave their teenage bedrooms?
4.
But then that must mean... OH MY GOD, NO!!
He he he... Yeah ya did.. Lol
5.
What for? The boob job?
Well things have been pretty good since - I mean, i get over 1 million views just for doing some ole Jamreekwhy covers and doing ma hair all up nice
6. I just tried to post a lookie-like pic from my FB but it seems my mobile technology was having none of it.
7.
Haha - Dood's here, now you're all in trouble...
Ha ha ha ha, you're all lucky, I've a glass of something strong in hand.. Medicinal mind
8.
That's dood isn't it?
I was young! I needed the money!
9. Wow! Lost this one to page 5! Still available and still bloomin' lovely! PM me!
10. Still available, with all the bits! Price includes uk shipping
11.
It is ridiculous that we have to worry about a courier damaging an item. If they cannot get an reasonably packed item from A to B without damaging it then what use are they? I find it strange that I have to insure an item against their incompetence. Insurance should not be required if they did there job correctly. The more frequently they damage the items in their custody = The more we feel that we have to purchase insurance = More profit for the company. That isn't a service, that is extortion, and that is ilegal.
Agree x1000!
12. On the flipside, i once received a bass to my front door wrapped in no more than a single sheet of bubble-wrap! Couldn't believe it. Especially as the courier left it in clear view on my doorstep all day!
13. Factoring in the additional costs of shipping by couriers with large overheads puts off sellers I am sure - especially when it's hard to trust that your beloved instrument will make the journey in one piece - so you buy extra insurance to cover the replacement value... The cost goes up further putting off buyers. it's a sad state of affairs for sure.
14. Nyargh! Struggling with a mobile device. The first picture is of the bass now and the second, a much clearer image features the bass with the original keys and bridge on.
15. I also have the Fender certificate somewhere too! i'll endeavour to find and include it with the sale.
16. I promised myself I'd never sell this bass, a phrase that has been seen written many times on BassChat. This is an interesting one as it has been one of my favourites, yet has been a collectable rather than a player. In the time that I've owned it, it hasn't actually ever played a gig. The first time this wonderful instrument was used *properly* was for last months edition of Guitar Interactive Magazine, where you'll be able to see and hear it in action. The bass originally came with a mirror scratch plate and chrome hardware along with the US Vintage pickups and I understand CTS pots. I have upgraded with premium Wilkinson tuning keys, a superb high-mass gold bridge and a correct 70's three ply black pickguard. The colour scheme was chosen to match John Deacon's original P bass that he had refinished sometime around 1985-86 ready for the A Kind Of Magic tour. Oh, gold knobs, Gold screws, Gold neck plate and gold schaller strap lock buttons too! If you are not aware, the non-export models are Japan's premium instruments that aren't meant to be out in europe as they clash with Fender's USA models (and are available at a much lower price considering how GOOD these are.) I'm not sure if I should even be selling this one, but the time seems right and I need a flush of 'new' to take me forward. The price is realistic for the quality and condition for the instrument in line with (or rather cheaper than) other non-export models. This is the real deal that makes a total mockery of original 70's P basses (of which plenty I've played). Shipping will only happen if a full hardcase can be provided OR I will source one and add it to the cost. Shipping is always insured and tracked and I would prefer to deal UK only. Bank transfer is accepted. Pictures to come shortly *** Checking eBay, from Japan_Syndrome you can buy export models of the PBx0- basses for £618 + £80 shipping + vat Plus 20% of total on top to cover customs and excise minimum. This one is a good deal I reckon!
17. I'm actually rather excited to see this post as I'm having one of these serviced right now and can't wait to hear it! Mine is an old MK1 girl though - easily between 67 and 69. SO, bump for a great bit of british engineering!
18. Dave, I assume that because you'd gone to talk to Hartke that you'd somehow had a problem with the shop that you bought from? I mean - it's the outlet who provides the customer service where a product purchased is faulty.
19. I want to review the new big twin.
20.
I can see how it could impede two hand tapping,
It really doesn't
21. I love how this question comes round each year (or more often) - i think it's safe to say that since those ole Gibsons of yesteryear up to today, they're here to stay!
