Subscribed! This is very interesting stuff and I have long had problems with various bass straps.

I also have a strict cancellation policy that is clearly outlined when a student joins my 'school'. It is a 24hr policy, which is very fair and I ask the complete lesson rate to be covered as it is very difficult in this part of the world to get someone in that slot within 24 hours. My students accept this and I've never had any problems. On the flipside, I always go above and beyond what is expected of me and thus I hope to ensure that my students get great value for money.

Likewise I owned a pair of Toby Pro 6's. One I upgraded with EMG 40P pickups that were a little short in the recess, but I'm afraid I can't remember how much room there was left over. I suspect the routs were Bart P4 tall, but obviously I couldn't assure you of that. Oh and my other tip, if you can find them, get the older models that didn't have Bubinga bodies as they were to my mind better made. I've played a good few of each type and the newer models before they disappeared were more likely to have finish issues. The preamp in the Tobias Pro basses bore a remarkable resemblance to Mighty Mite drop in units and whilst not bad would almost definitely benefit from an upgrade too.

It's perfectly safe to run one Hydrive cabinet with the LH1000 in bridged mode but just use your ears - if ian amp is making horrible distorting noises that you're not expecting then back off a bit Why are they so cheap? Well the design is so simple it's genius and therefore they keep the price down. It's a great muscle amp with a great pure tone driven by an effective valve preamplifier.
Check out the demo for EZdrummer to see if that helps loads of pre-recorded midi files played by real drummers.
I've just bought EZ Drummer 2 - it is superb!

Nope. Sadly Fractal's customer care left me cold and I turned on my heels rather than taking the plunge.
i have tried many of the budget models and by far and away the best sound quality (for the money) was the Roland Quad capture (£185), i know several people who upgraded from the focusrite scarlett range as soon as they heard the difference on my system, i honestly think for the money the is nothing better out there, the duo capture EX uses the same preamps and is a little cheaper if you dont need the digi i/o and extra processing. they are great units and i cant recommend them highly enough. i have not tried the Forte but i have heard good things.
A rock solid unit with great drivers. I also own the smaller Duo - Capture EX which also doubles up as a superb interface for the Apple iPad. The Quad is the best 'bang for the buck' I feel. I'm also a very big fan of Reaper.
Enfield http://www.enfieldguitars.com/
I've reviewed the LionHeart bass and have to say I was very impressed with the pickups. I'd love to get my hands on a Cannon bass next to try out as I feel that Martin and team have really done well with creating a pickup unit that can cover P, J and MM in one unit. Put two units in a bass and you have a really flexible system. The LionHeart bass is a very nice piece of kit too. I'd also echo the sentiment above looking at Shuker as a custom builder. One of the finest set of craftsman hands we have in the Uk,

The list of Class AB amps is a long one (i.e non D Class) - is there anything else specifically you are looking for in spec? Weight? Power output etc? How about separate pre and power amp components? Is that do-able?

The Novax Fan Fret system I think is absolutely brilliant! It makes total sense and tonally is what every bass player needs in their life. Sheldon Dingwall (of Dingwall Guitars) has the system nailed I think with an extended 37" scale length for a B string. Sounds superb and as others have already said, it's actually surprisingly easy and comfortable to play a Fan Fret bass. Even a 6 stringer! Yeah I'm a fan. I'm pleased to see other companies giving it a go too.

Definitely check out Keith McMillen's kit: http://www.keithmcmillen.com http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Keith_McMillen_Sotfstep.html I understand that Billy Sheehan asked for the '12 step' which is as you'll see a keyboard that definitely sends note information. I would be confident that Keith's other controllers can do the same. You'd probably need to label which button is programmed to do what on your Akai though.

Another bump for a superb amplifier - it fits in to a very shallow rack case as it is only 21cm - which is about the same depth as a 'lightweight head' and only ways 5Kg! £550 shipped in the Uk ono (within reason) TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Number of channels: 2 Watts per channel @ 4 ohm 800w RMS Watts per channel @ 8 ohm 480w RMS Watts per channel @ 16 ohm 240w RMS Bridged mode @ 8 ohm 1600w RMS Bridged mode @ 16 ohm 1000w RMS Input sensitivity: 0.775V Frequency Response (+/-3db ref 1kHz) 8hz-24kHz Weight: 5kg http://uk.matrixamplification.com/media/mconnect_uploadfiles/m/a/matrix-gt-2u_1600.pdf

I guess that yes I could make one myself, but I thought I'd ask here first in case anyone had a jig already thus saving myself a bit of work I think I may have a work around too that I'll try over the weekend. My main concern is getting one of those pin holes in the wrong place and spoiling the look of the guitar by having a wonky key. Even worse for that matter would be totally messing it up so the key can't be fitted properly at all! ha!

You can see a little prong sticking up out of the back of the tuning key here. It's a locating pin, rather than using a normal screw hole. The benefits being that you are less likely to sheer off one of those little screws whilst installing the key. The only downside is making sure that you have put your pilot hole in the right place prior to installing this key. The Jig ensures you do it correctly and effortlessly!
