1. The LH500 is brilliant! So simple with it's valve driven preamp strapped to a decent AB Mosfet power amplifier means it is capable of real lows. I haven't tried the BH500 yet I am afraid.
2.
Hi guys, As I can't for the life of me find a rackmount kit for my genz streamliner (which I was planning to use as a poweramp for a valve preamp I'm looking at purchasing), I'm now thinking of getting a light/mid weight poweramp. It has to be something simple but powerwise I'm looking at around 800/1000 watts to pair with a Trace Elliot V-type preamp to run through a berg cn212 cab. Any recommendations for amps that work well with this particular preamp would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Freddie
Oh! As for rack mounting, I am about to do the same - Look for a 19" rack tray on eBay like this! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SWAMP-1RU-19-inch-Rack-Case-Mount-Tray-Shelf-Suits-all-19-Racks-/111473080536?pt=AU_Pro_Audio&hash=item19f45038d8
3. Incidentally, the Matrix GT Amplifiers were originally made with guitarists in mid who were specifically looking for a more 'tube-like' experience. Many Fractal Axe-Fx users have taken up these power amps for this reason. The 1600 designed with us low enders in mind too is a big beasty that can provide 800W RMS per channel or bridged at 1.6Kw if that's your bag - not that you have to turn it up that far. Anyway, I was thinking that it would pair well with a valve pre!
4.
This - Peavey do some cheap (albeit older) Class D amps in their DPC range. The one you probably want to keep an eye out for is the DPC 1400. Alternatively Dood was selling a Powersoft power amp for reasonable money last month.
Ahh! I did have a Powersoft and I sold it a while back - but the one I sold last month-ish was by British company Matrix - The GT1600FX to be more accurate - a hell of a beast at 1.6Kw and under 5Kg. It was an AB amp with an oversized SMPS power supply rather than D Class. Recommended - and definitely Powersoft! Awesome amplifiers!
5.
Bollocks. The D'Addario Super Long Scale are too short on the B string by about 8mm. This is on an ABZ5 so they would no doubt fit a Dingwall Super J what has a slightly shorter scale. That's £30 down the toilet then.
An old thread but I'm glad I searched and found this post! Guess I can't put SL's on my Dingwall!
6. Very nice basses! I reviewed one recently and have to say I was very impressed with the build quality and tonal options from the super quad pickups.
7. I'd like to hear that too - but then I'll probably need to sell my third kidney to own an AE!
8.
In my case though (and i suspect ALOT of cases) this is worthless. Unless you pay via paypal/mastercard you have no rights. I would urge noone to part money based on the fact the seller is a basschat user. Just because you paid for the ad doenst mean the seller is not just a random dude on the street looking to9 rip you off.
If you get ripped off, we do our best to track down the person who has wronged. BassChat as a community on more than one occasion has been instrumental in helping to reach a happy resolution. This detective work amongst community users has stretched across other internet communities and sometimes in to other countries. Rights aside, Gumtree doesn't give a crap if you've been ripped off. Basschat does. Worthless?
9. That's very kind! I'll make a note of that Thank you!
10.
It has more low end extension and is flatter through the upper mids compared to the cn212
I have a CN212 and would love to put the AE212 up next to it to compare as it sounds like the AE would possibly edge it for me - maybe!
11. It's also worth a mention that unlike Gumtree, if anything goes wrong with your sale/purchase, you have a support staff here that will voluntarily do their best to look after you. That's not a 'paid for service' and not expected of us, but we'd do that - because we look out for our community users* *except the odd rogue, who we feed to Ped's dog.
12.
If your item is less than £50 in value then as far as I remember posting the sale is free. Mods will confirm this. I'm sure the details are in a sticky at the top of the for sale pages.
Correct, though you will get beaten by a masked moderator if you under value your goods for sale.
13.
I'm sure a Moderator will be along soon to confirm the details behind this but I think you can post as many adverts as you like for 12 months for the once-off fee and you pay no commission on successful sales, unlike eBay.
Correct.
14. I'd have to check the PRS clips! Not bad sounding at all in our studio!
15.
Cool looking Bass.
Correct answer Heh heh!!!
16. Toot toot, I'll just leave this here...
17. I've reviewed one and actually they feel good and play nicely. The review model sent to me was a Kestrel - id like to try the Kingfisher too. Great fit and finish, I think the instruments have been built to a good standard. They don't of course match up to the likes of the Gary Grainger model PRS bass which is just brilliant.
18. Hey matey! Thank you for the kind words and indeed a good point well made! It isn't just for doing Sheehan impressions. Actually a very versatile preamp that can go from a mild grit and bite to warm mids all the way through Darkglass territory and actually well beyond in to hyper gain modes for Muse impressions. EQ on both clean and dirty channels give you ultimate sculpting ability before combining the two for a big fat bass tone. Not many pedals are capable of doing this. You can also send the dirty signal to a separate amplifier if you like for bi-amping. There's DI outputs that I've never needed an effects loop for each channel too!! Channels are foot switchable. Valve driven preamplifier.
19. Thanks everyone! Yup the new Hercules is now in the wall, secured. AB1 sits very nicely and the arms don't get in the way of the tuning keys. Now... I have a spare hanger to fill....
20.
So, Korg (Hartke suppliers) have contacted me back, and quickly too, £110 for 1 x 15" XL speaker posted or around £180 for two. Now the cab cost me £100, but i do like it...it has heavy duty castors , is well built and weigh's a ton which is great for my band as they love to carry it . Interestingly Korg in my email put the speakers as 300W, not sure if that's a typo as the originals were 200W, but 300W would be preferable if the newer speakers are that. But i can't stopping thinking about some decent Eminence speakers like the 3015LF ...but then there's tuning the cab, physics lessons etc...BTW how do you tune a cab? And how do you find the litres of a cab?
The later 15" XLs were indeed upgraded to 300W RMS as I understand it. £180 for a pair of speakers of this quality is actually very good and Korg are brilliant. Buying a pair will give you a 600W cabinet and it'll happily spank a lot of 2x15's out there. A single 3015LF from Lean is £175. Case dismissed
21. I'd save yourself the bother of possibly having to retune that cabinet to make it suitable for a different speaker - even worse would be to only replace one cone I'm afraid. The 15's in this cab are pretty conservatively rated and my suggestion would be to get the current speaker direct from Korg UK who are the distributors for Hartke.
22. I've not had a chance to try out the newer TD heads, but one of my favourites from EBS was the TD650 - A model that I spent many an hour beating with a variety of different cabinets when Bass Merchant had that little upstairs shop in Suffolk.
23.
I listened to Queen's Another One Bites the Dust from this playlist and *really* listened to the bass line. Despite it being one of the most recognisable and memorable bass lines on earth it absolutely blew me away listening to it on a good system whilst actively listening to the bass, the mix and the whole thing. Maaaaan what a bass line!
This is almost another conversation in itself! It seems like an odd question, but I've posed it many times. "How do you listen to music?" - For me, I have to admit that I am rubbish with lyrics and don't know what half of my favourite songs are actually about - but I get very drawn in by the rhythms and even the sound of the mix and mastering. In fact, looking back on it, I should have known I was going to be a bass player as all I seem to hum are bass lines! I definitely 'study' my music though. I get frustrated when I have to listen on a stereo that sounds rubbish or has no low end. I *really* want to hear what the bass actually sounds like! - I'm... I...well... I'm a bass geek. Aren't I? lol!
