1. Where are you based?
2. I'm possibly on the look out for a Fender PB70/Ash with a Maple fretboard.http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/pb70ash.html - Will get a few trade ideas together. Maybe a 62/VSP instead if funds will stretch.
3.
That would be a ABI 5/3 in Ferrari Yellow. My dream dingwall, if you make it an all wenge neck
Indeed it is! It is also very unusual now as I've completely rewired it! (There's a thread about it) - As far as I know, at the moment it is the only Dingwall bass that features *only* serial pickup configurations. My mate Ben who lives just down the road from me has an AB1 5/3 with the Wenge neck and I have to say, it looks amazing! If I remember I'll endeavour to get a picture on this thread!
4. I wonder how this would get on for bass guitar? http://www.carvinworld.com/products/TS100
5. That's in the right ball park for sure JapanAxe - and to be honest the preamp only need be a simple Marshall tone stack (cathode follower?) rather than lots of gubbins on board.
6.
Pre-amp valves are fine on their sides but the power valves seem to need to be vertically oriented otherwise the electrons get confused. IIRC the AC30 had them upside down
Yeah! Brian May used to have dead straight hair until he started playing AC30's!!
7. I owned a Warwick preamp once that was made up of a valve preamp followed by a small valve power amplifier whose output went to DI as well as the connections to feed a normal power amp. The idea being that you'd get the tone and feel of a real valve amplifier in a rack but choose your solid state power section to drive your speakers. Great idea but in reality it wasn't as articulate as I'd hoped.
8.
"...and the height of the power bottles pretty much dictate things" Do they have to stand upright?
No. I was also wondering about the use of different shaped transformers too, such as toroidal types.
9.
I'd suggest reading pt-1 of the blog, but basically jamup and an interface I like the line 6 sonic port
That's pretty much the way it goes yup! Can't believe it has become so easy to be truly mobile in our bass rigs! It'll just keep getting better too for sure.
10. I have to admit, I purposely left out some of my own thoughts - but I did wonder what results could be achieved by losing at least one transformer (mains) to power the valve amplifier using an SMPS instead. The other transformer would obviously still be a sticking point given it's role in valve amplification.
11. The second I saw the picture I thought something wasn't right about it - but the owner says lower down. It's not an official Sheehan model. The attitude was offered in non-signature models (including a 5 string) and this standard version has been 'upgraded' it seems. Actually, still a very nice bass without the Sheehan mods.
12. Ok, so this is a crazy question to begin with, so let me flesh it out a bit. I have in my possession a vintage Marshall Super Bass 100W valve amplifier. It has been recently serviced and had a few part upgrades to improve it's response and tone. I have to say, it sounds amazing! It is however a big beast of an amplifier as you all will know. So it got me to thinking. I *know* that the output and power transformers are big and bulky. I know that the valves need room for a bit of fresh air. But has anyone actually tackled making a 100W all valve bass amplifier smaller and lighter? Rack mountable in a 2u box at least! I'm not talking about hybrids here. Everyone is doing that these days!
13. Seriously, if it's that sound you have in mind and your budget is tight - trawl the marketplace here for Hydrives - less hassle in the long run and the results will be much better
14. You're probably gonna need to make sure your walls are well braced

16. I think I replied in the original post - or one of them at least. For me, the dictionary summed it up without further thoughts! 17. Thank you Planer! I've just added issue 31 and I'm off to record issue 32 in the next week or so!
18.
Cheers, dood, thanks for the heads up and the review, mate!
It's a pleasure
19. Ive reviewed the four string. It's really nice and the Aguilar pickups sound superb. You'll need to scroll through my posts here to find the magazine issue in which I covered the bass: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/248043-doods-100-online-video-reviews/page__pid__2645016#entry2645016
20. If only I had the cash lol! I'd rip your arm off if I had something to trade. I've a CN212 already and they are superb. A second one would be..err, even more superberer!
21. Bumpage - will think about trades. Likely cabs or basses as I have a few things in mind.
22. Just bought a TC Pedal from Grant. Great communication, very well packed item and keen to ensure a happy exchange. Good man! Thank you!
23. Yeah, really nice - I've liked the online reviews of the 58 and would love to have the spare cash to get one - especially an 'as new' example like this GLWTS.
