I did, but a cool tip is that B&Q do some decent steel screws that have the small heads you need for Schallers, but they are longer than the daft ones you get in the Schaller set. Change to those and everything seemed to stay put. Failing that, a little bit of Loctite or a slither from a cocktail stick in the hole before driving the screw back in again should do the trick

Not surprisingly, I've had my mits on one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqSMMLsr4yM I thought it was great and would love to get one on my own board when finances allow.

We're gonna need to know what pickups you've put in and how they are wired, but it does sound like you either have a wiring situation or the pickups aren't matched well. Don't forget also that if the pickups are wired to an existing preamp, some have a problem with impedance mismatch.
Long excursion maybe, but they're still only 5 inch drivers. Four of them have less cone area than a single ten.
I have to say that was my immediate reaction. I'd be very hard pushed to gig with a single 10" speaker, unless It was a sing song around Bagpuss's house with the mice. edit: added smileys as I'm joking around

Yup, nothing to worry about there at all. Customer service direct is awesome. Just the other day I was on 'skype' with Jim himself having a geek out over gear. We managed to kill two hours I think!
Thanks Skank. B&M are certainly the UK distributor but I hadn't realised they even had an in-house brand. Provenance seems to be very good with the involvement of Patrick James Eggle. My local PMT has a righty Mercury from the range I'm looking at for well under £800 so I'm optimistic about getting change from £850. As luck would have it the window display at Forsyths had the Mercury sitting next to a PJE original parlour (a very plain, unadorned instrument with a cedar top at a whisker under £3k). For a brief moment I did actually think about getting a quote for a PJE lefty, but apparently he doesn't make acoustics any more. No, I didn't know that either.
I haven't quite decided yet, but I have a Faith Neptune that I may decide to part with. It has recently been upgraded with Gotoh locking tuning keys too.
Thank you. I'll have a listen.
That's a cool version! I have to admit I always have a pre-emptive cringe reaction when someone says they do a metal version of a pop song. Yes, there are some great, well thought out deconstructions of songs, but my ears want to explode the minute I hear a really obvious 'Djent' ostinato shoe-horned in to the song. I heard a cover of a C Aguilera track the other day that completely shot wide of the mark. Sure, they managed to get some screamo vocals in there and the obligatory double kick drum over cooking, but it just all sounded a bit too... well, I cringed!
I find a lot of music is written in Bass tabs, can someone just confirm to a newbie that the numbers do correspond to the fret number on the given string? IE 7 on the G would equal a D in notation. Just for peace of mind please!
That's correct yes! Although that would be the least of your problems when reading Tabs as there are so many that vary in errrmmmm how 'correct' they are! Good for getting an idea of a bass line but often far from reliable!
"It drives me nuts when luthiers put flat pickups on a bass with a radiused neck, for example." from http://www.notreble....he-how-and-why/ Are there any other sort of pickups? Short of having the windings or case custom made.
There are companies that do make radiused pickups/pickup covers yes! Off the top of my head would be Ibanez and Kiesel Carvin. Aaron Armstrong can make them too for his pickups. I've also spotted that Ned Steinberger had EMG make radiused pickups for his own basses too! They are out there and I think it's a great idea.
Yes. Dead easy. Each of the chains can be separated or joined together for a mono output. In fact if you really want - you can have 1/4 inch to a real amp, and another going to a 2nd amp without cab sims. Then the XLRs with Cab Sims going to the PA split left and right or clean and dirty.... and then have the USB going to a PC for recording etc etc. Easy to do as well. Set each input path up for a different input so they behave like separate amps. Then at the end of each path set which output you want to route it to. Under 20 seconds to set up that routing. Probably under 10 seconds when you've had it for a week!
Just another reason why I really am starting to love Helix! I just need to work on the BSSDD pedal 'modelling' and I'll be set. The only reason why it didn't come out to a gig this weekend. I think I'm going to buy that new 'live in' pedal board rack case too. soon!

It seems to be a topic that some get their knickers in a twist about, but I see it as another tool, like a plectrum or a drum stick. Mine as you'll see I designed to be adjustable, so if I don't want to use it I can neatly screw it down in to the body. It does also mean I can change it's angle depending on my instrument set up too!
Would that be more or less the same as a pair of humbuckers in Jazz bass positions? If so, you've basically got a Thunderbird!
Point well made! Yes, the early ones are dual rail humbuckers. I for some reason never put two and two together! - I will however need to go listen to some Paul Gray now! Loved his TB tone!

My favourite bassists are mainly P players, but when it comes to the two, I can't decide and thus I tend to be a PJ type chap, or at least 'two pickup' basses. There's something about the combination that seems to offer a tightness to the sound that I can't really describe. I think my favourite combination which is going off topic is a pair of dual-rail soapbars. Would that be J Bass on steroids?
If you do end up making a custom TonePrint, Dood, you're gonna have to call it "The Sniffles" now
Ha ha ha ha ha!! Done deal
{snip} but then risk losing your edit because of software glitches on the TC. @Dood has this software glitch been sorted yet? {/snip}
I don't think TC see it as a software glitch, just not something they have added yet. Simply put, the editor can not read the TonePrint you have created on the pedal once you have disconnected and reconnected. So you won't lose your Toneprint. But if you have saved lots of different versions of your TP, you might need to make a note somewhere of the one you have put on the pedal! I do this by adding a number at the end of the reset now so the highest is the one on the pedal. You can select your current TP from your editor saved list in the application with the pedal attached and continue editing though. I hope that makes sense, I am on my death bed today suffering with a major, MAJOR case of the sniffles. I'll ask TC about it when I get a chance.. the TP that is, not the sniffles lol
if you guys fight, will it be fisticuffs or girly slaps.....
It doesn’t matter as long as the delivery is tasteful lol. So as you can imagine, 100 visitors at the bass show all in desperate need to get attention....

What do you think is the ideal string gauge to learn on?
Dood replied to XoSo's topic in Accessories and Misc
I'd add another vote to 'it doesn't matter too much' apart from Bluejay's excellent point about Nickel allergies. You're going to need those callouses eventually, so suck it up - they're a badge of honour
I have had students with Nickel allergies and this can make playing an instrument uncomfortable indeed. I would most definitely recommend a really good set up on an instrument too. Again, on the subject of students, I’ve had many come through the door with, for example some old classical guitar that has been dug up out of the attic. Nor surprisingly, most of them play like an old dog. Flat wounds and Round wounds have had a mention. A nice in between string or look at is the half wound otherwise known as ground wound. D’Addario make a nice set of half wound strings that are a nice in between of tone and feel.
