Who do You love more, Your best friend or Your favourite bass ?
mr4stringz replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
There’s ‘General Discussion’ and there’s…this. -
"New" Epiphone Thunderbirds - Thunderbird '64
mr4stringz replied to neepheid's topic in Bass Guitars
I saw these last night and love the Silver Mist. It does have me GASing somewhat. Not sure I could justify the extra notes though given how great the Vintage Pro/60s T-Birds are at their price point, especially used. -
Which companies are dead to you?
mr4stringz replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
Yep, these two are a fair way up my list too. -
What an absolute disgrace, an abomination even…lined paper, yet written in landscape?

Funky Distorted Liquid sounds like a DDH IPA for the craft beer folk. Nice review though! 👍

Snapped string after swapping: what did I do wrong?

This problem calls for…a second bass. -
Completely Unnecessary... But Still Glorious.

I very briefly had a VBA400 (and the 4x12 matching cab) years back. Magnificent things! Congrats! -
The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
mr4stringz replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Presumably the same pickup. I stopped being as interested in them at that point. -
Nah, not even close given what can be had for sub £200 these days. Anyhoo, that natural Z7 looks nice.
-
Rollng the tone back on the P pickup (and for my taste having soloed it as well on your Yammy) either will get you in the ballpark just fine I’d say. Conscious you’ve already ‘downsized’ from an upright to electric. If you can, try a Mustang and see what you think. I love them (and shorties generally) personally, but they’re maybe not for everyone.

I’m often told I don’t look it but I’m a very, very placid chap, but any snide comments about gear from anyone to anyone at any time grinds my gears sufficiently that I do let it bother me and become something of a mouthy runt. I may or may not have deliberately misspelled that… Annoyed with myself to this day that I didn’t check out one of the Freeman sigs when they were released.

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
mr4stringz replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
A rather cathartic rehearsal for my noisy two-piece (bass and drums) last night. Our first since the drummist (also my best mate of some 25 years) found out his Mom is terminally ill. Even well into our forties, just bashing the holy hell out of your chosen instrument still really has a place. -
That’s exactly it. Well done and thanks to mods and (pretty much🤣) everyone who posts!

Metallica: Some kind of Monster. Bass players.
mr4stringz replied to TimR's topic in General Discussion
Bonkers that Trujillo’s been in the band 20 years and has only appeared on the same number of Metallica studio albums (not counting Lulu in that given it was a collab) as Cliff did in 5 years. -
NBD - I know some BC members won't like it - but I do
mr4stringz replied to Marc S's topic in Bass Guitars
Nice work. They’re a heap of fun to play. Mine doesn’t get too much use, but I do love playing it when I get round to plugging it in. Given the weight and dimensions it’s also helpful for my lad to knock about on. Re: strings, Shortscale GHS Precision flats also fit just fine on for the Longhorn, it’s what I have on mine. Outside of those and the LaBella strings though I’m not sure what else works.- 168 replies

I believe so, though my mate (the current bassist) wasn’t in the band back then.
-
Rarely gig these days but have used both of these in the past. I’d still opt for either when we next do though I reckon.
-
Not in a similar situation, but it sounds like you’re doing the best you can for your compadre in the circumstances. Could playing the odd new tune here and there in the set that doesn’t require keys work? Might give him the opportunity for the odd breather and scratch the itch for some new material too?

Tenor uke player here. Great way to pass the time!
-
Yeah, that is the other thing…

Personally, if you’re struggling with 34” scale, I’d be considering shorties as the difference to you may well be greater than the relief you’d get from a 32” scale. Which leads me to… …another +1 for the JMJ

Er, no thanks. Looks like an AliExpress job but worse.
