I gig in a rock band playing pubs and clubs and we have our own pa that the singer owns. I wouldn`t be without our own pa as most pubs round here expect you to bring your own. Only the bigger places have a pa and usually have a sound guy. We just put vocals through ours and use Marshall valve amps for the guitarists and Trace Elliott for me. The on stage volume is quite loud and the singer and lead guitarist don`t wear hearing protection and are going deaf but won`t try earplugs, the silly so and so`s.

I`m the same as you Mojo. I can`t seem to settle on one bass. I change them frequently and try and justify it to myself. Recent purchase is a Ibby Sr750. Really nice bass but so are the other 5 I own. The price doesn`t really matter: some are cheap, others not so. I still wonder why I traded a 2009 US P bass, black and maple, as it was a cracker and would have done me for the rest playing days.

When asked recently why he plays his battered 57 P bass, he said "Because it growls!"

Loving the natural one with black hardware.

The box wouldn`t be sent back to Fender or whoever. The amount of money it would cost in transport, manpower etc would not be viable when the box cost pennies to make. Or a fiver according to GAK!! I think some social media slagging off is in order on this occasion unless the money goes to Nordoff Robbins or similar charity.

I don`t think they would get a fiver from the recycle company. Most companies are happy enough to get it uplifted for free, saves them having to pay to get it taken away. Rip off
Cheers, perhaps a few emails shall be sent soon then! Any ideas why they are so scarce in the UK?
Not sure but I once had a bass player come up at a gig and ask me what the heck was I playing. A G&L L2000 tribute I replied. Never heard of them he says. And he had been a bass player for years. And here lies the problem. They don`t seem to have a high profile and not many stockist, especially the US models.
hese unfortionatly in and out of the hospital at the moment so im not able to question him on it. he just handed it over and said try this one. this is a lovely jazz bass.
How much is he looking for it? If you like the bass and it`s a good price, get it.

Remove the scratch plate and check the routing around the pickups and it may also have the circular cnc/drugs stash hole. I can`t remember if the US models had these or just the Mexican models? If it`s a Mighty mite neck it`s not a US model. Nothing wrong with MM necks but if the neck isn`t US, I doubt the body will be.

Those tuners aren`t fitted to US models and the string tree is a cheapo. Is the seller telling you it`s a US model?. If it is it should have a serial number that you can check.

Music shops -any wonder they're going under?
jezzaboy replied to Jakester's topic in General Discussion
I`ve gotta say that the 3 shops I use in Glasgow - Guitarguitar, Merchant city and Strung out, have all been good for me. Some have better prices on strings, effects pedals etc but I try and use them rather than internet shopping. Strung out is a fantastic repair shop with really helpful staff. Overall -
Lol, thanks jezza. Already seen this vid. Wanted to hear what our fellow basschatters had to say though
It is a lovely looking bass. So nice in fact that I bought a SR 750, a few steps down from the one you are looking at. Cracking bass with licensed Norstrand P and J pickups with a Ibby 3 band eq with a passive option. I had it about a week and was looking at it one night, when I noticed that a 5 string pickup had been fitted in the bridge! But hats off to Guitarguitar. I dropped it off on Tuesday and the replacement is sitting in the Glasgow shop, ready for collection tomorrow. Happy days

Wot, no new Beatles film and album thread
jezzaboy replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
When The Beatles first recorded at Abbey Road, They were not taken that seriously. They where looked down upon by the older generation as disposable kiddies music. As a result the staff didnt try too hard on recording them as they did their seasoned acts on their EMI roster. It wasnt until they became EMI's golden goose that they where taken seriously.
I am reading a book by session player Martin Kershaw and he states that at the time, Abbey road was just another studio and not the hallowed ground that it is now considered to be. Me, I love the Beatles especially the first 3 or 4 albums. Poptastic!! -

The track I heard on radio 2 from Shea was full of teenage girls screaming. Giles Martin said they left the screaming in but after about 30 seconds, it did my head right in. What I could hear of the music sounded quite good considering they couldn`t hear one another. I can`t wait till October when the real Beatles movie - Supersonic, comes out -
That's a point.......... perhaps some T Rex?
Well Steve Currie played a P bass, a slab if I remember and Herbie Flowers plays a Jazz. 2000 posts!

Why are music stands not acceptable in guitar bands?
jezzaboy replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
Last year I went to see a band that I was in at one time and the singer guitarist had his face in his A4 folder through the entire gig. And there was zero interaction with the punters. It looked very unprofessional. That was maybe an extreme example but I see nothing wrong with having an ipad on a bracket, attached to the mike stand. If you ever see a Stereophonics gig, Kelly Jones has some monitors in front of him. One of these is a tv with the words scrolling down. I wouldn`t mind but he wrote the blooming words!!
