1. I don't see the problem myself, we can't tailor an education for each individual child so giving them the opportunity to learn something like music is important. As ambient rightly said, some sort of arts is part of a balanced education.
 2.
I really am sorry for my ignorance guys, butting having read the thread mentioned above on wiring the two pups in series, won't that just sound like both pick ups on full volume.... Be gentle with me....
It'll generally sound fatter than a jazz with both pups on full. But using the method described in the link above you will only have 1 functioning volume control and the other won't do diddly!
 3.
FWIW my question arose from casting an eye around for a nice 5 string, and most are active. I don't care if active or passive TBH, I care about a lack of complication.
Off the shelf it might be difficult but as someone suggested above, Sadowsky's pre-amp do have a "proper" passive tone pot so if you have the money, they could be an option for you. Or you could buy an active bass with a 3 band EQ and swap it out for a 2 band EQ and add a passive tone pot before the pre-amp. This is what I did with my Lull and the pre rarely moves from flat.
 4. Audio Technica ATH-M50's for me. First saw them on the Snarky Puppy live recording videos and thought if they're good enough for those guys they're good enough for me. Use them with a Peavy practice amp, works perfectly at any volume!
 5.
Less Than Jake, The Skints and Mariachi El Bronx tonight; taking my eldest for her first proper gig, she doesn't know yet
Mariachi El Bronx are awesome! Probably 1 of my favourite support bands I've seen when they toured with Gogol Bordello, you're in for a right treat!
 6.
Make a 34" version and I'm interested...
On the shop page you can choose between 30" and 34" edit/ ninja'd!
 7.
I just checked their site in case I'd misremembered. It's because it's a leftie I think.
Wouldn't surprise me. Lefties are made in much smaller runs so parts are more expensive though not £700 more expensive! Sigh. ..... Still want 1 though!
 8.
Rick 4003 left handed model for a bit over £2300, can't see that flying off the rack but good on them to have it in for the few lefties around interested in trying a mythical Rick.
Wow! £2300, really? Guitarguitar have them for £2099, where's that extra 200 quid come from?!
 9. I don't usually envy you righties but when a maple boarded black Fender is concerned I do become a wee bit green! Congrats!
 10. I've got a fair few lined up for this side of the year, Red Fang this Sunday but Elder, Blues Pills & Kadvar, Scorpion Child, The Vintage Caravan, Earth, Living Colour & Glenn Hughes, Cadillac Three, Beth Hart, Nathaniel Rateliff, Alter Bridge in Brum (and possibly Notts), Greenleaf, Truckfighters, Biffy Clyro, Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats and finally Clutch in Dec. Plus both Sabbath dates in Brum next year. Whoever said live music is dead eh?
 11. I think you're probably right, I think it's just the simplicity of them. My humble Fender P has so much more character with it's 1 pick up than my 5 string Lull Jazz with fancy bridge/tuners, reinforced neck and Sadowsky Pre but i'll bet the Lull had a lot more time spent on it being put together. I've only ever owned 1 Fender but it seem's to have that extra something that my other basses don't. Indescribable really.
 12.
I actually heard a song that Paul worked with Rhianna on. It was pretty cool. Blue
I thought it was pretty generic myself, didn't do much for me. But I do love the track that he did for the Sound City film/album! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBd9330h9kI
 13.
the one exception for me is Joe Cockers version of a Little Help From My Friends
+1 It's Cocker's "Watchtower" for me, he completely owns it. The original pales in comparison!
 14.
Gear4Music in York do them, but they are getting harder to come by in stores - I think Gak stocked Warwick up until fairly recently, but no longer. Somebody far more knowledgable than I will be along just shortly to tell you why.
I vaguely remember it being stated that it's because Warwick are so difficult to work with to become a fully fledged dealer. Might have been a couple years ago now so things may (or may not) have changed since then.
 15.
but why are they not advertised over here ?
Possibility because they're so similar to Fender/Musicman? (rightfully so mind) Shops know that Fenders sell so might not want to pay upfront for stock if it might just sit there for a while. I'd love to try 1, I was about to get a L2500 secondhand before I got my Lull but the seller withdrawn it from sale! I was pretty gutted about that, I only ever hear good things about 'em!
 16.
The stock tuners aren't that great either, so basically that CS uses parts from a 'lesser' model...IMO.
You're paying for the customisation options rather than upgraded hardware, surely? That's what I've always thought the custom shop was, essentially just an American Fender but with the option to change a few bits
 17. Prices didn't seem too bad, around £11/£12 for 2 pale ales. A few quid above going rate but expected at a place like that really, better than the usual Tuborg or Carsberg for a fiver I usually have to settle for at the B'ham o2 places!
 18. Totally agree with everyone, I'd hyped them up in my own head for the weeks leading up to it and they delivered on everything and more - without a doubt! I dragged along my brother who's not into their type of stuff at all and he really enjoyed it too. Really cool venue too I thought!
 19. I dig it! The end noises reminded a bit of catchphrase though... not sure how I feel about that haha. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubvdXyqS5io
 20. Surely it's only a matter of time before he gives the keys to the wrong band and all his stuff gets tea-leafed? Personally, I'd feel really uncomfortable if we were asked to do it where we rehearse!
 21.
yep that's the one, shame I'm a leftie, again , you could be right about the pickups, presumable they're not a Fender stock item
I'm with you on the being a lefty, 'tis a hard life being cack handed and a bass player! Yeah, Fender don't sell them seperately so they're pretty hard to come by and not a lot of pup manufacturers seem to offer the twin-jazz setup as an option either! It's a toughie!
 22. Was it like this 1? https://www.andertons.co.uk/p/0242600503/electric-basses/fender-modern-player-jazz-bass-satin-2-color-sunburst If so I don't think they are 5 string pups, it's just that the pole pieces are between the strings rather than a pair of pole pieces directly under the strings like a traditional jazz. I'd imagine unless you find someone either parting out a modern player or someone who can custom build you a pair it'd be pretty hard to get a hold of those spec pups off the shelf!
 23.
Title track from Tremonti's new album: https://www.youtube....h?v=9HghPn3v4e4
Awesome, I haven't seen another Tremonti fan round these parts! He really stepped up his vocal chops with Cauterize/Dust. Insanely talented and still coming out with fresh material after all these years too!
 24.
It's brutal out there for us kack-handers.
Amen to that! I didn't get on with my Lull when I first got it though which was brought blind from a Swedish guy on leftybass, the neck was super slim compared to my P/Sandberg, it was my first active and my first 5 string but after a few months of playing it I loved it (love it even more now I've put a Sadowsky Pre in it!) so I don't really mind buying blind too much, as long as it comes as described anyway!
 25.
Yup, you'd be hard pushed to find a band that's anywhere near as good in a live setting as those guys.
In today's world or "back in the day"? I saw them at Download this year and coulda took it or left it really, certainly wasn't any kind of highlight for me. Then again after 5 days of pretty heavy drinking and 3 days of mud sludge I was pretty burn out by the time they came on!
