1. They have at least 3 of each. White, black and burst
2. The one amp I regret selling in my Burman 501. IT was a beast of a thing.
3. I am auditioning today with my blue Affinity P. Should be interesting....
4. I came within a gnat's crotchet of buying a Rockinbetter yesterday. They had them in Fair Deal in Brum for 399. The black one i tried seemed to be a decent bass for the money.
5. Watch Whiplash and transfer drums to bass. And remember to learn to duck a lot.
6.
Yes. I bought one and sent it back the next day, pickup was quite strong with plenty of power and it was light so lovely..... not. I couldn't get on with the neck and it just felt cheap so bye bye.
If they are anything like their amps, I wouldn't bother....
7.
Congratulations on your purchase. I love Squiers too. Perhaps we could turn your question around. How do some manufacturers get away with charging so much?
No idea. I am sure there are better woods, more refined dimensions, better electrics etc. But when I am blasting through cheap cables into a dodgy old Marlin X150 head, I don't think many punters could tell if it was a Stagg or a Wal.
8.
if you get chance to hear the Backbeat soundtrack or the Beatles live in Hamburg album (wonder when that'll get the digitally remastered and re-released treatment?), I think you might agree that they weren't a million miles away from punk
Hamburg Beatles were just all trying to be Gene Vincent from what I gather.
9. I needed a cheap back up bass as I shall be joining a band come the end of the week. I picked this up for 80 quid. Its a Squier Affinity P-Bass in midnight blue metallicky kind of colour. Made in Indonesia with a IC08 serial. It sounds and plays lovely for a cheapy and seems to have a substantial chuck of wood for a body. It still baffles me that Squier can make such amazing instruments at such a low cost.
10. https://www.facebook.com/events/197485770647179/?ti=cl A magnificent couple of bands for you Oxfordians. Slate Hearts are grungey awesome and Tess of the Circle are awesome grungey. Bob Harris loves em. Janice Long loves em. You should too. Im on first
11. I gigged a £5 Harmony acoustic guitar last friday. Does that count?
12.
Last night I played a short solo acoustic spot at The Road Test in Banbury, which is a brilliantly diverse open mic event organised by Freddy Le Cragg of this parish. I did three original songs, just me and my Tanglewood acoustic straight into the PA. I used to play there on a monthly basis but once the band got busy I had less time to attend, but with the band on a summer break I've got time to do my own thing. I missed it!
Indeed he did
13. I am not entirely sure where my bass is...
14. I do blues cover of Human League's Don't You Want Me Baby with a slide variation on the main riff. Goes down a storm.
15. Binbag. Or if I'm feeling flush, a Poundland bag for life.
16. I was outside the O2 in Oxford when the Damned were playing and didn't realise the bloke talking to me was Captain Sensible....
17. So many bassists in Oxfordshire.... No wonder I can't get a bass gig
18. Another Oxfordshire resident says Hi
19. in the meantime, come to Oxford for the official Tallulah Gosh Experience tour, stay at the Ride hotel and take a wander to the pub where Gary Glitter once won a fiver out of the fruit machine!
20.
It's official; BC is really convincing me the whole Beatle thing has always been bigger and more important to us baby boomer yanks than the English. With all the negativity I can't help but wonder if The Beatles did something to the English I don't know about? Blue
Yes They stood on a stage and sang, then they sat in a studio and sang. They didn't invent a cure for cancer or instigate world peace. They were just a band. Even John Lennon himself said so.
21. I got the first issue. The quality of the pressing is wonderful. Bargain for a fiver.
22. You can also contact Nightshift Magazine which is a cracking local music mag that has been running since before Radiohead were a twinkle in Parlophone's bank account, www.nightshiftmag.com
23. I played an acoustic version of Ace of Spades on a radio session earlier this week. Not sure if it was a tribute or sacrilege tbh....
24. I use a Carlsbro Marlin X-150 through either a 4 x 12 or a 2 x 15. If I need a boost (and I rarely do!) I have a matching 150w power module to up it to 300w. Never had to use it and rarely get the X-150 past 12 o'clock....
