1.
Love the black Precision with maple/blocks.
I'd be all over it if I didn't already have a black/black/maple Precision. I doubt I could convince myself I needed both, let alone the good lady
 2.
I just tried it and it looks stunning but I noticed scratches on the pickguard and I hold the pickguard when plucking the E, so for me back on it went. And pickguard does make it look better.
That looks lovely! Get yourself a clear Perspex guard!
 3. Look what I found https://m.thomann.de/gb/fender_squier_classicvibe_j_bass60_is.htm?ref=mal_a_2 https://m.thomann.de/gb/fender_squier_classic_vibe_70s_p_bass.htm?ref=mal_a_3 https://m.thomann.de/gb/fender_sq_classic_vibe_p_bass_50_wb.htm?ref=mrl_a_4 If there's an Oly white version of the 70's P I'm in trouble!
 4. Pretty sure you could snag a used Stingray for the price of a new one of these at the moment.
 5. Bought a wiring loom and pickup from a Mike Dirnt bass from Paul this week. Great comms throughout, and Paul himself is one of the good ones, buy or sell with confidence folks!
 6. I go in and try stuff quite regularly, I feel bad because the biggest purchase I've made there was an amp, but the guys (especially Laurence) are always welcoming, ask how I'm getting on with my gear and never have any qualms about letting noodle on their basses. My next bass will definitely come from there.
 7. I agree! I love the DC bass.
 8. Ordered some pickup foam from Richard, arrived quickly, no hassle at all. Good lad.
 9. That is lovely! And an absolute bargain. Congrats!
 10.
This. This is really sound advice. Thank you mate. And I still want an SS1. ...and a Stingray. and a Spector.....
Buying any of those used poses little or no risk - the worst case if you buy one and don't like it is you flip it on to the next person for the same price!
 11.
Interesting.......and what about OLP models? Or are they significantly more expensive second hand?
The OLP basses were the 'Squier' basses of the MM range about a decade ago. Nice basses if you got a good one, they rarely pop up for sale nowadays, I'm assuming because everyone who has one wants to keep hold of it. These are way below your minimum budget though so probably not the kind of quality you're after. As said above you can afford a like-new-but-used Stingray, so why settle for a budget lookalike?
 12. Here's the deal breaker - obviously the body is scaled down, are the pickups scaled down too? Or are they standard size?
 13. Thomann will allow you to return a bass within 30 days no questions asked - I think it might cost you between €20-€30 to cover the return shipping, but that feels like a decent risk if it means getting to trial the bass of your dreams with no commitment
 14.
Yes it is, it looks to me and sounds really good. I may update the jag pick ups for them and then get rid of the Squier P it is an Affinity but fitted with some sort of SD pickups but sounds great. Decisions Decisions
Very good! I had just about talked myself out of buying one of these until I saw the pictures. GAS attack!
 15.
Sorry I put the pics on a new thread
Found them!!
 16.
Sorry I put the pics on a new thread
Found them!!
 17. Here we go! Looks lovely Peter! Is the finish slightly transparent?
 18.
Have up loaded a couple of pics from my phone on new thread
Where are the pictures Peter?
 19.
Can anyone help me in uploading photos please?
Quickest way would be to upload them to Dropbox or something similar and then drop the links in a post for us to follow
 20. My first amp was a Laney 'Hardcoremax' combo, nothing special, but it was loud and reliable. They probably wouldn't be top of my list if I was buying new gear but it's solid stuff nonetheless.
 21. Check out the Yamaha TRBX basses. The 304 runs at about £250 which would leave you with a decent budget for the rest of your gear (amp, effects etc.) They're light, have a huge sound with lots of variety. You get a 2 band EQ to boost or cut the bass and treble, and a 5-way switch that offers up another 5 pre-set tones. My experience with Yamaha gear is excellent, particularly when it comes to the quality control and factory set up. I don't think anyone else offers the same quality at this price point. http://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical-instruments/guitars-basses/el-basses/trbx/trbx304/?mode=model&vmode=pc http://www.gak.co.uk/en/yamaha-trbx304-4-string-bass-car/81931
 22.
Thanks for all feedback so far. I have tried the G&L and LOVED the tones but with a nut width of 44mm it's beastly on my hands. If they made it with a narrower neck, this would be the one.
You'll be after one of these then... http://www.glguitars.com/instruments/TributeSeries/basses/M-2000/index.asp The M2000 has the same body/pickups, a more versatile EQ and a skinny neck. 23.
Kiogon wiring loom, look no further Spb-1 is good, antiquity 2 is also lovely
These were the two things that popped to my mind, the Duncan Antiquity 2 P/Up is modelled after an early 60's tone, the SPB-1 is based on a '57 so they are quite different.
