1. Looking online it seems its just held in with 4 screws on the top. So it should slide out from the back or the front. Try pushing it from the back first.
 2.
Looking for a change from the chrome/nickel look. Feel free to take the mick if the thread title's totally accurate
Well there is the optima gold plated strings. And then there the black tapewounds or clear ones. Also there are the neon coated rounds.
 3.
Really? Only the Classic-IV PRO is anywhere near close to the current Gibson version of the Thunderbird, the others are all different construction (bolt-on necks) and different woods, hardware and electronics. Even then the current Gibson Thunderbird has little in common with the original from the 60s other than the basic shape.
Yeah that's what I said the Classic version. And I know the others are not.
 4. Regarding the guitar combo, well its probably not because of the guitar speaker as such its because the cab as a whole is tuned higher. I've found that at lower home volumes or even quieter jam volumes a higher tuned cab or even open back cabs (with bass driver) can have great clarity and definition. The problem is this only works for lower volume. There are plenty of modern low tuned bass cabs that have more clarity and definition than your te2103h which is a decent cab but compared to many modern cabs is a bit long on the tooth with all due respect.
 5.
Because I've seen photos and read about plastic saddles, after a while lots of them bent under string loads, also strings got burn/cut in them. Sound vise, from what I've read, bone can't be inferior to plastic. What I am actually asking is: if there is guitar saddle with exact width, length and height, that I need, is arc on top going to be good for bass too? Of course, we are talking about non compensated saddles. Is it same thing? If not, can someone please explain where exactly is arc difference between guitar/bass saddle assuming all other dimensions are same?
Ok I doubt anyone can tell the sound difference between a bone saddle or a decent plastic or faux bone material one. I've never encounted a plastic saddle bend under a string load. There might be a guitar saddle that will fit with some adjustmemt but unlikely you will find one the exact correct dimensions. But its not impossible. The arc as you call it is actually the radius. Different fingerborads have different radius (ark of the fingerboard). You need to find out the radius of your finger board and get a suitably radiused saddle. You can buy the saddle material and shape one yourself if need be.
 6.
I was thinking here. Clearly there's been a lot of thought gone into the design of these heads but there's one thing that always seems to be overlooked; put a freaking tuner in it somehow! I know the case is (quite probably) filled with all manner of amplifier and pre-stage goodiness, but how dreamy would it be to just have an always on tuner on the top of it? Just a little window say 4cm x 8cm. It's not really meant to be racked, so howabout squeezing in an LCD display similar to the top half of a Boss TU3? Then it truly becomes a one box gigging unit. Call it the 900T and take my money, dammit. Christ, it would be a dream to just leave the house with just bass, couple of cables, the head and cabinet.
I've always wondered why more amps don't have tuners built in. I'm pretty sure a good quality built in tuner would not cost much internal or external real estate. And tuner tech is pretty advanced and isn't expensive anymore. I think many companies don't bother as it adds costs and they assume people already have a dedicated tuner. It would be nice to see on higher end amps a decent built in tuner. If we are sold on smaller and lighter amps being more convienent then surely they could market the fact its even more convienent due to the in built tuner, one less thing to carry.
 7.
maybe some kind of blind test is in order for the next Bass bash?
Good idea. My prediction is for people to be astonished they genuinely can't tell some of the cheaper models affinity, cv, mim standard from the more expensive ones in tone alone. Or in playability. But in weight and feel there's a difference. Just like most blind bass tests. In fact wasn't this already done and a mim mark hoppus beat a lot of higher end p basses?
 8.
I have three Precisions, one Squier, one MiM and one US Standard. All are fairly recent and there is a clear step up in sound, feel and general quality from cheapest to most expensive.

I`m similar Dave, have an MiM and two US Standards and the US are noticeably better, in as you say, sound, feel and general quality. I`ve added the same pickup to my MiM and a hi-mass bridge to get it as near to the US as I can, and these have pushed it nearer, but the US still feels more substantial underhand.
I've also owned 3 squires, 3 mim basses, 1 mij and a 3 USA basses. As well as working on a fair few various Fenders old and new. And yes there are steps up in quality every time you go up a range (in general) but the gap isn't large enough for the price increase imo. Don't get me wrong though I'm a Fender fan!
 9.
Ooh, i'm first!! Ok, i had this thing in my head, an alternate universe where Surf music had bass as the lead instrument. And i did this: https://soundcloud.com/operative451/surf
Pretty cool and surfy indeed.
 10. The problem is I think that the USA models while being good basses are not that far apart from even the cheaper Squire models never mind the mim models. Most people will buy a cheaper model if its nearly as good as the higher end one. To me it would make total sense if fender USA produced higher end models only. Leaving mexico to the mid/upper mid basses. And squire to the lower end of the market. I just don't think the current USA std is high end enough to distinguish itself over the mim models. Unless they launch a new upgraded std model of course. This will be a major issue for all manufactures as the very cheapest basses/guitars are now pretty viable instrumemts. In recent times it seems everyone has had a cheap bass that in some way rivals a much much more expensive instrument.
 11.
Well, there's a little bit of wear - and then there's this: Think I did the right thing...
I actually rather like that. A used instrument so to say. I would of probably refinished too but it does have a certain charm.
 12. Oddly I've always liked the sr500 fragile finish. When they get a bit of wear on them I think it looks good although maybe the wood underneath is a little too light a colour. But Certainly better than fake relicing etc imo. As already said they can be very easily stripped and oiled or even painted if you don't like it.
 13. Why does it need to be bone? Plastic does a good job. And you won't notice a difference.
 14. I calculated (roughly) the port tuning on a fender rumble 100 v3 last night. They are fairly boomy. Sounds good for some styles and horrible for others. Forget now it's port tuning think it was in the upper 60s(hz). I temporally lengthened the ports to lower the tuning it seemed so much better! The boom was drastically reduced. Notes were well defined. Unfortunately the combo is my girlfriend's and she didn't want me messing about too much as she likes how it sounds and doesn't trust me haha. Why fender tuned it this way I'm not sure they could of easy added length to the two 3" by 2.5" ports. But I guess they had there reasons. Port velocity went up but I doubt enough to be an issue.
 15. If it were to equal a barefaced equivalent I would be surprised. But its not impossible after all they have been around a while and working with sica and building mass produced cabs for years. So really they have no excuse not to be able to build something as good and mass produced (cheaper). I mean Berhinger probably have the resources to put out some amazing cabs at a lower cost if they wanted. Actually they would no doubt just reverse engineer a cab and driver knowing them. Oh and double its true power handling ;D lol. Isnt the 2x10 pretty much an eden cab design.
 16.
It'd piss me off too and I'd want to sort it properly. Never really thought about getting dings filled, how hard is it to do small dents in maple necks?
Depends on what the finish is. But normally easy if unfinished for someone in the know, who has had a bit of practice.
There are some cool tricks for streaming out small dents with a soldering iron and damp cloth. It can turn a fairly nasty dent into something barely noticeable. Check Youtube for tips and hints.
Only works for some finishes. If its lacquered it may or may not work and you can damage the finish. If its lacquered then its a bit harder to do you can use lacquer, superglue or fingernail varnish. This takes practice to get "right" where it really is as good as new. If "unfinished" so to say or oiled its easier but if oiled you do sometimes need to re oil. Get some wood and practice before hand.
 17. So is the head actually 900w I thought with its 20% thd rating the clean output would be considerably less???
 18. I think it sounded really good and enjoyed listening to it. I voted for you despite my hatred for having to use my facebook to do so lol. I liked the warm sound of the track and it was nice and funky without being full on. I couldn't tell it was a stingray, it sounded like something with flats too me and maybe a hint too mellow in places when other things kicked in, I thought the bass perceived volume dropped just a touch at those times. But that's me listening more to the bass in that instance. As said I did enjoy the remix and your bass playing.
 19.
My amps are a Hiwatt from 1972 and an HH from 1974, I bought the HH in 1976 and the Hiwatt in 1998, used regularly now but both stood unused for over ten years when I had a break from performing. Neither have ever been opened up and they work perfectly despite the HH being rattled around the country during the seventies. On the other hand our 2013 Behringer mixer was faulty after a year.
I would say your taking a huge risk. Things may work fine but there is always a chance an old capacitor can let go. And they will sooner or later, why take the risk for parts that cost a few quid.
 20. Only once have I been slightly annoyed although annoyed is too strong a word, at not getting feedback. When I sold a fender mustang bass on here a few months back. And the guy give me a glowing feedback via pm and not in my feedback thread despite me messaging him a link to it etc. It wasn't a cheap item and it would of been one of those things that people take note of in a feedback thread. If I'm selling something be it something cheap or expensive I go our my way to package things properly so feedback is appreciated. If I'm the buyer of something I'm not too concerned about being left feedback although it is nice to have.
 21.
Hi, I am not having the bass on the wall for the momment. Cheers Hélder
I don't think you understood my meaning there.
 22. Sounds like the pot. Or maybe even a loose connection on the pot. Open it up check the connections to the pot. Take multiple pictures of the electrics so you know where the wires go!. Re solder the connections or find the value of the pot and buy the same value and type of pot. If the value isn't written on you can either find a schematic or take the pot out and test it with a multimeter to find its value. Regarding upgrading from different values it depends I've found with actives its best to go with the same value of the original as it can throw some active electrics off a bit, but not always. If its passive then its a matter of if you want to change it and you can experiment more freely. If you search 250k vs 500k etc then there will be loads of discussion one this. When buying a pot its always best to get a decent quality one too.
 23.
Quality components. Kept inside a room apart from gigs. Does this mean my Aguilar AG 500 is going to last a long time. I've had it for 9 years now. I do love it.
Probably since its one of the best constructed amps I've peaked into. I'm not an amp expert at all but they are very very well made. However they have been known to fail but when I owned one and researched online the failure rate was very low. Think I seen two online that failed both were repaired successfully and not by aguilar either so they seem to be able to be worked on by other amp techs. The capacitors might need replacing at some point many many years from now.
 24. I think they look a bit generic but look like a decent bass ergonomically at least. Not sure they will sell that well they have no real stand out features. Gibson really should just have the eb(sg)and thunderbird maybe the lp bass too, as that's there iconic designs. And they stand out. Are they leaving the eb and thunderbird to Epiphone? I must say I love the epiphone thunderbird classic but its pretty much a Gibson anyhow same materials nearly the same construction same pickups same woods etc etc. I would love it if epiphone did the same to the eb basses and made them nearly exactly like the gibson ones instead of the rubbish eb they sell now. Although some would argue the gibson eb0 basses were also rubbish I guess. If I was gonna design a bass in today's market it would have to be something that made a statement if it tanked ok least I tried but it looks like gibson have not put much effort into the design at all.
