1. I had a latter mag 410 (prc made) although not the most efficient cab, It was well built and had a pleasant tone. I think if its in half decent Nik and under £100 if not less then there not a bad cab at all. And I have a little bit of experience with various ashdown stuff although not an expert imo the older British built cabs are built slightly better they seem to skimp slightly on the glue on the latter cabs from what I've seen and also the particle board on the British mags looks better quality that's from having a good look at them as said I'm not am expert. And I'm sure the older carpet is slightly harder wearing than the latter chinese covering.
 2. There's obviously the feel difference and you can play harder with a higher action. I also hear a tone difference that is not just the pickups being closer or further away from the string, Although that does affect things as we know. A very low action you can get a good tone from some fret buzz. A medium action lets you dig in a little more but get a bit of buzz if needed. And to me a high action does seem to have a different tone maybe more rounder the strings have all the room to really resonate maybe? To me it would be perfectly logical to have multiple of the exact same bass model with the same string but having different setups. Some players have less or more setup sensitivity some sound the same and great no matter what and others need a certain setup on all basses and some can use different setups for different styles.
 3. Are these not the seriously underpowered ones?
 4.
I guess the problem will partly be that, at that end of the market the amps are trying to add in whistles and bells to make them look competitive against the competition while building down to a price. That means whatever little cash is available is being spent on marketing features not on core performance. The sad reality is that a £100 practice amp that has a built in tuner, DSP, iPod input, USB connection, memory presets but poor quality chassis, speaker and cab (and which therefore has huge sound limitations) will sell shed loads more than a well designed and built £100 practice amp that just has a gain, volume and two or three basic tone knobs (but which sounds great and gives reliable performance). Should be the other way round, but it isn't. So manufacturers tend to build the former not the latter. It's the truism. Every penny spent on a gimmick wasn't spent on a part that really matters.
Yes this is probably very true. It seems to also happen on some more expensive stuff too.
 5.
Anything made by Roland/Boss is usually insanely hardwearing. I'd get a Cube if I were you.
Had a cube was a good amp I suppose but didn't fully like its tone, just felt a little fake. Very well built though.
 6.
I had a TC BG250 208 and it didn't rattle at all... Great little combo
The one I tried did while playing on the e string. Sounded like poss the grill but we couldn't get it to stop doing it in the store and I had the guy over helping me out (think he thought i was a right picky git lol but was very helpful). It seemed like a well put together little combo too, compared to others so I was disappointed tbh. If it hadn't of rattled I would of been happy to buy that model.
 7. Looks cool, I like the look of all the range. The bass would look awesome if it had gold knobs and gold pu covers too imo.
 8.
I made a 1x12" cabinet using an 8Ω, 50W driver from a guitar combo out of plywood (about 5mm) on a frame made from 20mm square pine; cost less than £20 all in. Glued it together using generic wood glue from the local hardware shop and it performs well at reasonable volume without rattling. I can't understand how experienced amp manufacturers can get it wrong if I can knock one up in my shed using hand tools.
This is exactly how I feel. While not saying designing a little combo at a reasonable cost is easy. I do strongly feel like the manufactures could done more about these issues. Vibrating grills, chuffing ports, components vibrating in sympathy. I wouldn't care but all the combos I tested seemed to sound really good where they were working without issue. Anyhow my bit of a rant is over.
 9.
What bass are you trying those combos with?
Multiple basses. Nothing imparticular.
 10.
IME most affordable small combos are toys. You need to shell out a bit for something decent. The Ibanez Promethean does it for me. Why they pulled the plug on it is a mystery to me.
Yeah I guess you are right.
 11. Bit of a rant maybe but I have to say this. I've been looking for a new little combo to take to my girlfriends and back and jamming with a guitar playing mate. Which I thought would be an easy task. However many of the new relatively little combos i tested while all sounding very good had horrible internal vibrations and I really wasn't playing them loudly. I had to return a new orange crush 50 because it had a horrible vibration/resonance thing going on in the higher notes. I tried an ampeg ba110v2 And the larger 112 version both sounded great but had odd rattling at fairly low volumes, I had the guy pull the grills off just to be sure too. I tried a tc electronics bg250 2x8 and again it sounded great but it rattled badly to a point I felt it must be broken. So I went to another store and tried out a few small ashdown's the triple a and another one I think was a perfect 10 again on certain notes one had a vibration and the other I think the perfect 10 didn't rattle but hissed badly. So I tried a hartke hd50 sounded great bar on the open e it sounded broken I thought the speaker must have an issue. Someone working in the shop agreed that one wasn't right. My girlfriend has a fender rumble 100v3 the back amp plate rattles badly at living room volume levels even though the rest of it seems very well designed. At that point I gave up. Ended up buying an ancient mag 250 combo which doesn't have any issues even at much higher volumes. I've had various combos in the past a hartke a25, carlsbro 90bg, Roland cube, trace elliot and more. And they were very solid no issues but older heavier designs, it seems though many of the little practice amps now are really badly made they just don't feel solid and some of them are not cheap either. Surely you don't need to spend a stupid amount on a combo that can actually handle bass these days without rattling etc. I know people on here will have these combos mentioned and probably had no issues am I just getting lemons or is it somehow me lol.
 12.
It's pointless for lots of reasons but the main one being that a post count is no indication if a persons ability to be honest. We always advise people to meet up or talk on he phone prior to doing any deal anyway. It would mean less items being listed so less people coming to look and more pointless posts as people jump up thier count to get in. Since introducing the charge we've put many scanners off because they're required to pay and most scammers won't front any money to do so. It's amazing how few problems we ever hear about when you look at how busy the marketplace is as evidenced by the outrage here! OP, can you send me the users name please by PM? Cheers ped
I do agree with you. It was just a thought. I just think it would be nice tho if the "sellers" of no or low post count joined in the forum a bit more. Especially as lots have nice gear or seem to have knowledge on something it would only enrich the forum having more people post. Also having a higher post count does put people more at ease about buying than a low or no post count. But as you said it of course isn't an honesty counter so to say.
 13.
The Trace Elliot pre shape sound is one of my least favourite amp sounds of all time. Never understood why it was so popular. I really don't like Smiley Face graphic settings in general though.
Agreed. Even though ive liked a smiley face eq on many amps but the trace pre shape buttons are horrible. However I've heard/seen people play with horrible settings for me but sound great themselves.
 14. Just a thought. It might be good if you had to have a certain post count before access to the market place. I've frequented other forums where they do this and they do seem to get less issues. However I suppose it might take away revenue?
 15. Voted. My fav this month was moonbassalpha's noodle which I thought was also a very good in the composition challenge, then asambique's as already said atmospheric number. And finally timhiggins.
 16. I would suspect a pre amp tube first. However also any dirty jacks can sometimes cause issues (on any amp) maybe a tiny bit of contact/electrical cleaner and playing in a jack in and out a few times in all the jack sockets (with amp off!) may help. Failing that as previously said look into the pre amp 12ax7s.
 17. Now sold
 18.
Without reverse engineering the cab and then using a speaker modeling program to determine compatible drivers it's impossible to render anything other than a purely subjective opinion. In other words, a guess, which you'll no doubt receive in droves, most of which will have no more validity than if you were to put a list of drivers on the wall and toss a dart at it...whilst blindfolded.
Indeed. Unless someone has already done exactly this previously to said cab and could give the correct advice.
 19. Yeah think it will have to go back as its not right.
 20. Its not at very very low volume but it does make the noise at appropriate living room volume about 9.30 and above on the dial, and the noise is pretty loud early on. Its the new crush 50 combo. Which seems like it would be a fantastic practice combo apart from the resonance issues. I think my gf is a bit angry with me tbh for suggesting it isn't right.
 21. Ok my gf very kindly bought me a nice new orange combo. It seems on the face of it a good practice amp. However it seems the have vibration or resonance issues on certain notes. Seeminly coming from the amp electrics area. Its not the front grill and I've tried it with serval different basses and in other rooms too. Its deffinetly the combo. Should a new combo be doing this or should I send it back?. Anyone ever return anything to guitar guitar?
 22.
Here's mine ,recorded with my htc phone in front of Eden 180 https://soundcloud.com/timothy-terrence-higgins-iv/octonoodle
I'm liking the funk!
 23.
Here's an entry for this month. Recorded with a Samsung Galaxy voice recorder app, placed next the my Fender Rumble 15 https://soundcloud.com/tona-fied/halloween-noodle-m4a
The quality for a phone recording in front of a rumble 15 is good. Had a nice rounded tone.
 24.
I done a little short one featuring my new toy! http://soundcloud.com/leonard-smalls/funkwhammy-noodles
Kinda reminded me a little of jamiroquai feels just like it should.
 25. Sold! Here is my bugera bvp 5500 bought new this year. Its in excellent condition, been kept in a rack when taken out the home etc. Its basically a bit of an ampeg svt 3 pro clone (not exact), so its got a valve front end (4 x 12ax7) and a class a/b power section. And the controls are also lifted from the ampeg too, right down too the valve drive knob (controls valve plate voltage). I bought it over getting a used svt 3 pro after having tried both, because I genuinely liked the bugera better. Has a footswitch too. The fan is quiet, which I was surprised by this considering I've had more expensive amps which had louder fans. Its a decent amp and well made too. I taken some gut shoots, I think it shows its is well designed and seems to be put together very well. And yes it has Heft in its volume, or is that in its tone? Lol. £110 posted (UK only). I have the original box etc and it will be well packaged. Or £100 collected (South Durham area). Any trial welcome though you need to bring a cab.
