1. I'm looking forward to the arrival of my bad boy. Good luck with India...
 2.
I suppose it's because the graphite necks have that certain extra growl to them.
What about Warwick - King of growl?
 3.
Hello fellow Rotherham man Good luck with your new bass I may have seen you or even worked with you. Hot Ice, did you end up as a duo? UK Britpop, I once did a show case doing sound for an Abba Tribute show and there was a great Britpop band there round about late 90s there was also a band doing the Yates wine lodge circuit. I also worked for a few years as a bass player with a band called Dizzy Spells.
Hah, small world, think I may have seen you in dizzy spells? Hot Ice - long way down the line ended up as a trio with me and the guitarist and a new singer but we never worked as Hot Ice again. Let me know if you're doing anything local.
 4.
Great thanks for that. Did the Stingray pickguard screwholes fit exactly?
Just one thing of note Dave - don't forget the MIA Jazz (and P bass) have the 'notch' out of the pg for the truss rod (like a Lakky).
 5.
Maybe your Stingray was a particularly light example? Anyways i am used to 5 string basses which are usually heavier anyway.. Heres hoping
The 1990 was about 9.5 lbs (like the spec) but the Sterling was closer to 10. The 2005 Ray I currently have is about 9.25 - go figure.
 6.
This is my 2nd Musicman and i cant wait! Reasons i went with a sterling is my crumbling back (At 23 yeah i know!) And The need for a funky 4 string.
Rob, I hope you don't get a shock. The 2004 Sterling I bought to replace my 1990 Ray weighed about 1/2 lb more Having said that it did sound pretty good. And, in purple it's definately a girls bass - better get that hair cut me lad
 7. Tried Comfort Straps, thick straps you name it. Sometimes the only solution is a lighter well balanced bass or shorter sets. For me this means my MIA Precision (8.5lbs) gets the long gigs and my Ray4 (9.25lbs) gets the shorter sets. Oh - and avoid Thumb basses like the plague......
 8.
Comment on the bridge and neck are really aesthetic, the current bridges are fine they just don't look as good to me, I know lots of players who lament the passing of the older necks, the waxed finish is also horrific for picking up dirt but once again it's taste. In general, and it's very evident on the neck the materials on the ones I've played later than say 1995 ish seem cheaper, minor details like the quality of the maple previously used for the necks, the quality of the woods used in the body, even the plastics and the chrome all show evidence of a drive towards economy at the expense of quality. I've played lots of MMs and I'd agree there were some total dogs made in the mid 80s. I'd say that the newer ones are still a quality instrument, they just aren't as good as the late80s/early90s ones. I mean they haven't deteriorated like say the Fenders did.
J in the main can't disagree, but like you I've owned both 1990 and new and the differences to me are cosmetic. The neck wood was prettier on my old one but it wasn't as highly figured as some (some in the shop were no more figured than new ones) but again that's cosmetic - it doesn't imply better. My 2005 for some reason has a fair bit of flame in the neck but unfortunately the waxed finish doesn't do it justice - if it was laquered i'm sure it'd be a peach. I for one like the waxed neck but I've gotta admit it gets dirty - having said that, the grubby neck on mine came up perfect with the MM wipes (think it's a marketing ploy?). Regarding 'fit and finish' IMHO there's no difference between old and new - if anything the neck sockets have been better on my new one and the 2004 Sterling I had.
 9.
i mean just generally
+1 If I end up keeping my Ray in the long run I'll probably do the mod (it turned my old MIM Jazz into a great bass) - especially seeing as the 'unfinished' Ray necks seem to need frequent rod twiddling to keep em happy.
 10. Hi Rich, Like track 1 - nice balance. Track 2 really ain't me (don't like the vocal + too 'up' in the mix) but I can 'feel' the craft. Loved track 3 - must be the 'new romantic' in me (well it was my time and I am a Sheffielder - nearly).
 11. BMK - you really, really, really know that you don't want to sell this and you'll regret it forever if you do!
 12.
Cheers !! no interest yet though
Looks in pocket, finds fluff, walks away
 13. Cheers for the advice Jim. Now all I need is a tin of magnolia paint and a couple of little red transfers.........
 14.
You're both too kind......
I know, generous to a T me. Gotta do something with all these spare minutes watching me gear not sell
 15.
I've give you £500 for it
I'll see your bid and raise you £25 (as long as I sell my Ray for £550 )
 16. Hiya IS. Nice to see the expanding contigent of the Rotherham 'Chapter' on BC. Can't think of anything I've played in that you might have seen. Maybe, Hot Ice (Rock covers - 1990's), UK (Britpop covers - Mid - late 90's), The Overtones (Rock covers - late 90's to early noughties) and currently MGM (Trio - 60/70's covers). More often recently tho numerous jam nights in the area playing whatever, if you're ever in the vicinity let us know.
 17. Very nice Mark, what's not to like about a nice sparkly red Ray
 18.
Oh man, this is so tempting. I've got the cash burning a very big hole in my pocket, but I'm supposed to be saving for a new camera. I guess you're local too - I'm in Sheffield.
Very local - Rotherham Don't forget a bass is for life not just for Christmas
 19.
Great price for this IMO. Don't think you should be in too much of a hurry to bottom out the price - I'd be surprised if it didn't sell with a little persistence at this price.
Cheers BW. Feeling that £450 is about the going rate on these (especially with the custom case - cheapest I've seen these is $149 without taxes/shipping)), just gotta wait for someone who wants a Fretless.
