I’d stick with it Daryl but start looking for other opportunities and/or deps. Seems you’re still getting regular work with the current gig so go with the flow.

I agree mate, I’ve had my fair share of time wasters over the years. These days if I don’t think the project can be gig worthy in 3-4 months I wouldn’t bother. I know some like ‘rehearsal bands’ for the social aspect but I’ve always been in bands where there’s a social aspect and gigs.

That’s great Dave. Like you I love the Glam side but would love a sideline if I hade the time. My passion is late 70s/early 80s post punk/alternative and recently I’ve been playing a bit of 70s funk (finger style - not slap 😂).

The pub was also a B&B, we had use of one of the rooms.

Gig in a small East Yorkshire village at a smallish pub. A bit of a change for us as we’ve grown accustomed to larger venues, still it was a nice change. It was a nightmare on set up, plug points in the worst places and the unforgiving tiled floor….fortunately we displayed the Yorkshire ‘it’ll be reet’ philosophy. All went well apart from them turning the lights right down and we hadn’t put all our lights up. Cue a fair few fretting errors from me as the monitoring was pish and I was using the Sandberg Lionel that doesn’t have front dots….

It’d definitely be difficult to place an order without knowing what you were going to get -

Not sure on the typos. I was surprised it states 18v active as the control layout looks like the passive or a least a 2EQ rather than the 3EQ on the normal Ray Special. There’s no rear picture so you can’t check for a battery box -

Nice to see shortscale Stingrays becoming available again in Europe but hell - not cheap at £2800. Not sure if these are special editions as they are active unlike other shorties. Whatever the case it doesn’t look like I’ll be getting a stablemate for my Starry Night passive version. https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChsSEwjVsoOphtSSAxUImVAGHVbDCdYYACICCAEQMxoCZGc&co=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1bKDqYbUkgMVCJlQBh1WwwnWEAQYGiABEgLGGfD_BwE&sig=AOD64_38pwaJ7xkdS4I4ymfMLkT_zbJJ9g&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwigrP-ohtSSAxU8W0EAHe9zCTgQwg8oAHoFCA0QtwE&adurl= -

Occasionally. I didn’t think it would work well either but the rear porting does the job. I was finding that at some of the bigger venues I was having unpleasantly high volume of it was directly behind me. This has been a decent compromise in the basis that the rest of the band don’t want to go back line less.

Funny that, I always place my MB NYI21s to the side or just in front of me. I seem to be able to hear them much better that way

You might be right, I get a softer but still punchy sound with Lionel which might be better in a pub situation. I tend to use a Stingray on club gigs, it’s a bit more in your face and carries better in awful WMC rooms. Ive often thought about looking at alternative amp/cabs but I just feel at home with Markbass.

Back to pub land last night for Glam Viva after a run of WMCs. A great lively pub in Brimington just outside Chesterfield, The Butchers Arms, a great live music venue. I was a bit under the weather as I’m on a short course of nasty antibiotics but, bucket at the ready we soldier on. Fortunately the bucket wasn’t needed and the good hormones lifted me. Got a compliment on my playing from a drummer in another band…..that’s the second time in ten years, I’ll try not to let it go to my head 😂 Sandberg Lionel into my usual Markbass rig and red/white/blue sequinned Converse Chucky Ts.

Only bass I’ve ever bought new that’s worth more than I paid….. -
It was a bit nice…. Missus insisted I’d have to sell the Lionel or EBMM shorty to buy it though and I just couldn’t do it.

Unfortunately that beautiful black soft aged shortscale Cali TT at Guitar Village has now been sold......it's saved my bank balance getting a battering though. Did someone on here snaffle it?

Fender Pino Palladino Custom Shop ..... Machine Head question..

Have you tried Fender UK (FMIC UK ). I found them most useful when I lost a saddle on my JMJ Mustang, they sent me an aged piece gratis. -
I thought ECM stood for Electronic Counter-Measures........I'll get me coat.

You have a point from a technical point of view but to suggest vinyl lovers are in denial is inaccurate. I have a budget/mid level system with a Rega RP3 turntable for vinyl, Rega Apollo CD player and a Rega Brio R amp. I'm even beckoning in the 21st century with streaming using a Wiim Ultra. Now I have some albums on both Vinyl and CD and despite my aging ears I can hear distinct difference between the media; I'm not going to advocate one medium over the other but there are times when I prefer the vinyl and others the CD. It's hard to put into words but vinyl can sometimes give a more immediate delivery and a warmer more involving experience. There are times when the vinyl seems flat and less dynamic compared to the CD. These differences are probably more apparent when you go to a true high end system. Now you may ascribe what I've just said to lack of objectivity but the enjoyment of music is quite often a subjective experience and opinions differ........much like the insistence that amps based on valves are superior to transistors.

After our usual few weeks off in January, we were back at it at a fairly local WMC, Maltby Catholic Club. Despite being local we’d not played this venue before. The gig was well publicised resulting in a packed house. Both spots were well attended by dancers and a promise of a further gig, love it when a plan comes together. Talking with the proprietor, turns out the place wasn’t doing too well when the took it over last year but since investing in better live music acts the place is now thriving which was great to hear. EBMM shorty stingray, Boss pedals, Markbass little Marcus 500, 2 x Markbass NY121. Silver Converse Chuckie Ts.

EB Hybrid Slinky shortscale rounds for me, 45-105. I don't like the sound of new strings but these seem to bed in quickly and retain decent tone.
