  1. At the same bass show as Glen M, Stu Hamm did his Going To California solo piece - now that's something to behold I think. I'd love to have just one performance piece like that up my sleeve. Just for personal private enjoyment of course...bass porn!
  2. Glen Matlock walking on stage at the Bass Guitar Show in London a couple of years back, "I don't do any of that fancy stinky poo". He was coming on after someone finished a six-string shredding, two finger tapping, playing upside down and backwards set. Impressive, but I think it sounds better on a guitar.
  3. Years & years & years. If I put some new spiros on my bass I'd expect them to be still sounding great after five years and counting. Obv depending on how much you're playing and whether pizz or arco, I don't play arco so not sure how much the rosin affects lifespan. You can buy a well used second hand set for less and still get a few years use out of them.
  4. Laura Lee of Khruangbin - plays some brilliant grooves.
  5. Hi @nico.mart805, I don't know for definite about Presto branding in Europe being the same as Eurosonic in the States, but I've always understood that to be true (lots of threads on TalkBass).
  6. I thought the Yamaha SLB was designed to give you an acoustic tone straight into a PA, amp, or desk - so not sure why you'd try to mic its acoustic sound as it's designed to be silent or at least very quiet? Same goes for the Stagg I guess. That said, I thought the second sound clip you posted sounded great, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about...
  7. Has anyone ever taken the neck off (bolt on necks obv) and travelled like that? Asking for a friend...
  8. Correct, we’ll done, t shirt is in the post 😉
  9. There’re four in fact, the clue is the they’re in a museum in Stockholm. Extra points if you can name the owner of the Hagström.
  10. Tried one of these at Bass Direct. Awesome quality bass, builder like a tank, blew me away…
  11. SOLD... £100 including postage to anywhere in the mainland UK, cash or Paypal only thank you. If you're collecting from Bristol you can have them for £95. I've had these strings as spares for two or three years, they've never been put on my bass. I need some light hybrid strings that I can bow to replace my Presto Nylon Superlights, so please contact me about part-ex or exchanges. From the Presto supplied details: The Presto Jazzicato Double Bass String set is a further development of our popular Presto Nylonwound string. They have an improved steel rope core and a black Nylon wrapping. Gauge: Light Sizes: 3/4 Compared to our original Presto Nylonwound strings, the Jazzicato strings have a slightly smaller diameter. But they still have this smooth surface feel, which makes them different to other steel strings. This particular surface feel and the low tension make the Jazzicato strings very easy to play. The powerful, dark sound, the percussive punch and the unobtrusive sustain give the Jazzicato string their very own character – ideal for Jazz pizzicato, but also suited for Slap bass and Bluegrass.
  12. D'ya think the SLB-200 with a good amp would be just as good, and without the battery problem. The 300 just has three different tone shapes built in based on different amps I think. Mind you, the 200s are pretty rare as well these days...
  13. You can pick up these cage things pretty cheaply, amazing... Seriously though, glad to hear that your insurance company was able to help out.
  14. I looked up Joel on Youtube and found this piece - amazing tone and technique, the video is beautifully shot as well. Thanks for sharing.
  15. Sounds like they come in both necks. My 1950 was definitely an Eb, because when I got my new Eastman I realized it was a D, which feels a lot more natural to play TBH, but maybe if you're more of a jazzer an Eb makes more sense? Either way I doubt it would take long to mentally adjust to a different neck. I can see how switching between the two regularly though would be a pain.
  16. I used to have a Stentor 1950 and it had an Eb neck. I've not seen any 1950s with a D neck. Was a great gigging bass BTW - relatively smaller bodied and light!
  17. My son's old bass teacher drove his round in a Ford Fiesta, in the front passenger seat pushed right back with seat reclined as far as it would go, so it set in the footwell leaning back. I drive mine round in a VW Golf, with the back seat flat, and the neck slightly poking out between the two front seats. So I don't think you need a huge car.
  18. For the occasional time when I can't use the car I've used a foldable sack-trolley with bungee ropes to keep the bass in place.
  19. I used masking tape wrapped round my thumb when I first tried this - can help lessen the impact until a callous builds up. Somebody will probably step in and say this isn't allowed...
  20. Was watching Wet Leg on Jules Holland last night and the bassist playing a very cool looking JMJ signature Mustang I think, which also sound fab in the mix.
  21. You might have found Bass Sounds 1 on YT as well 🙂 Decisions, decisions...
  22. Maybe have a listen to the different basses to see what's on offer?
