1. One of regular usual gigs (once a month) in Quinns,Newcastle,Co Down usually ends in the following:We play the last note of our final number at around 11.30 pm and the DJ immediately lets loose with an onslaught of verry loud dance music. The crowd are already on the floor so no problem there. However we have then to load out through said crowd.A complete PITA I assure you.BUT last night the DJ was nowhere to be seen come our last number. We finished and one of the bar staff approached us and offered us an extra £100 if we'd play till 1.00am.having played since 9.00pm we said sure but we'd need a short 'nature' break.During this break the same staff member decided to have a go with the house sounds and manged to get some sounds going. The manager said 'OK guys,I don't need you now but heres an extra £50 for offering to stay on'.So we ended up with £100 per man.Result!
2. And another.Oh and by the way,its "That stretch down South won't ever stand the strain".
3. Just a random thought, and probably miles off.Could the trouble be at the other end of the cable? Is it always plugged into the same input on the amp/desk.Could there be a fault there?Give it a wiggle down there next time,or try another input. The angled jack could be just coincidence.Like I said, probably miles off,but hey....
4. Do NOT let that go! Complain like F**k to Parcelforce. That message on the P739 card is not valid, and the delivery driver should be taken to task. Its good that you have pics to back up your complaint.I spent over 20 years working for that mob,and I've seen a lot worse, but that is unacceptable.
5.
You know what really bugs me? People who start a sentence with "You know what really bugs me?"
That. And another "I hate to have to say this".Do you? Then shut it!
6. Whisky In The Jar a la Thin Lizzy.Sung by meself and Robert Palmer's 'Bad case of loving you' or Doctor Doctor or whatever it's called to start with.
7.
Would a Fender 5 string jazz bass fit?
My Squier P5 fits in mine perfectly.
8. The phrase 'The proof is in the pudding'.The correct phrase being 'The proof of the pudding is in the eating'. Just sayin' is all!
9. On Monday night at a gig,me and our guitarist were listening to The Stealer during our break (we put some tracks on thru the PA to keep punters) and discussing how Andy used that tone so effectively, especially during Kossof's solo.Amazing.And then on Tuesday...this.So sad.RIP
10. Nice one Mark.T'aint much wrong there that I can see or hear.
11. The intro to 'Drive My Car' by the Beatles. It seems to be a mish-mash of lead, bass and drums,in that order. We still have trouble with it.With 'Sex on Fire' if you get the timing of the opening riff right, its deceptively simple.
12.
I just point blank refused to play Alright Now Its the height of naff.
13. Not musically related, but Luke Skywalker of 'Star Wars' fame was known as Luke Skytoddler when he was much younger.
14.
Yep, can't go wrong with a bit of CCR. Theirs is my favourite version of 'heard it through the grapevine'
You mean ''hoyd' it through the grapevine' don't you? Strange pronounciation as Fogerty was Californian.
15. On hearing 'Bouree' I spent the best part of 2 days learning that bassline, note for note including the solo.I can still play it from memory.Such a melodic line, played on an EB0 iirc?
16. 6 string sex right there.Beautiful instrument.Good luck with it.
17. Thats nuthin! I thought the chap had injured his pendant 'gentlemans' area due to an inadvertent liason with a trolley.
18. I usually like to announce a song by giving a bit of background to it (who wrote it,what album its from etc).I only recently started doing this since me and our lead player started going out as a 2-piece (acoustic guitar and bass + 2 vocals) a la Mike Masse.(check him out on Youtube).I took it on myself to instigate a bit of banter just for the sake of keeping people interested in what we were doing. In N.Ireland there are many folk duos about who insist in giving each song,or tune, the full works IE who wrote it,why they wrote it,what they were thinking about after they wrote it and tend to go a bit far.I just think a little bit of insight, and hey, maybe a bit of trivia about the music helps to build a bit of closeness with your punters. PS if you're ever unfortunate enough to have just one person applaud after a song, just say "Thank you for the clap".Usually raises a titter.
19. Yeah I thought that this would stir a few memories.I cant remember how it was possible to get the catalogue in the first place.Whether it was mail order or whatever, but I do remember having recurring editions.I know it was during the 60s when I used to read it because I was still at school at the time, and I would always have it in my schoolbag and me and other kids would pore over it during breaks.Ah heady days!
20. Remember when you could spend hours poring over this?Wishing, hoping that maybe one day............? Look at the price of Fender basses. http://personal.inet...lcatalogue.html
21. Found this little item in my travels today. Its a page fro an old Bells Musical Instruments catalogue from the 60s.That looks a little like your bass in the lower right hand corner.
22.
CAPTION?
So this NOT what you meant by Double Bass then? Oh well,do you like my moustache by the way?
23. Check out his 'other items'.A goldmine of information.
