    New Ashdown pedals

You guys are quick to judge, and a bit harsh IMO - a vox pop at a trade show isn't ever going to be much good - it's noisy, the interviewee is often unprepared, tired, asked the wrong questions. The pedals may not have been fully launched yet with demos etc, maybe they were rushed into prototypes for the show and a full release will follow - they might be really good?! Wait and see. It's a bit of a shame to see so many people ready to shoot down one of our own UK brands.
  3. Looks great - I don't actually have a FI yet but will have one so I'm ready when I do!
  4. Yeah a bit. Never really go for the 'hype' though. One thing struck me as amusing though - the Chinese company who make copies of loads of basses had a stand there... one copy they produce is a Rickenbacker. I hope they were near the Rickenbacker stand. I'd love to have seen JH's face.

    Reverb?

Love reverb. I haven't used it live but at hoe through headphones it gives a real ambiance like you say, and fattens up the groove. It also pairs really well with synth bass, leading to some really cool sounds. With my mini bass (avatar) I tend to assign reverb mix to the knob on the bass and when playing solo it makes for a really warm and 'full' sound. It took me a while to realise what it was that made some slap bass samples i heard sound so good - I can't remember who they were but IIRC it was an online library of bass sounds I used to listen to now and then. One of them, I think it was a Celinder jazz bass, had a touch of reverb and it sounded great - I didn't have a reverb pedal at the time but as soon as I had one I was thinking this is what I was missing - now it sounds weird playing without it!

    Remote sessions?

    No mics needed IMO

    Remote sessions?

I know a few people who have done this, and i've done it myself a few times for fun, not payment - definitely better than using a studio, by the time you've paid for the session you'll do well to break even when paid for the job. I wouldn't use an amplifier, just a decent audio interface and headphones so you can play 'in the mix'
  8. I just moved this to off topic!
  9. Awesome amp. Stick the spectracomp in one of the toneprint slots and you’ve got a powerful do it all amp. 👍🏼
  10. They have a great range of stock - I nearly bought a Le Fay bass from them

    Bass Bashes

Everyone was surprised how small mine was at the SEBB
  12. Well put me down for one anyway!!
  13. One of my favourite sounds was from my 400+ I also love the sound of the tubes ticking as they cool down. Also it smelled nice
  14. What about one of those red switch flip covers, make it look like an improvised explosive device
  15. Yes of course
  16. The Future Compact. Love it. I wish it could be battery powered
  17. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I bloody love slap bass as much as any other style and I’m all for seeing it included in demos
  18. Personally I wouldn’t go for a custom build unless you know exactly what you want - even then, there are so many factors that make a bass sound great I don’t know if I could say for definite what would work with what when I’m paying for it. Not easy to sell either. That’s why I’d go for something that I can try first.
  19. Love the spider. That was in his VHS tape wasn’t it?
  20. Good to know - thanks. Edited for accuracy!
  21. I posted some other clips showing what are to my mind the best examples of the ‘smith sound’ here
  22. Someone didn’t read the article!! 🤦🏻‍♂️
  23. ‘In Stock’ basically means ‘we know someone we can get one from for you’ now
  24. Excellent read! I wonder if that have those blue plaques up on these buildings in the USA ‘Ken Smith carved his first bass here’ 😂 its a shame they’re so rate in the UK. I still don’t think many people know what a Smith sounds like. I discovered them by hearing the sweetest bass sound I’d ever heard, didn’t think anything of it (pre internet, what could I do!?). I recognised the sound on other things and eventually saw the video for Chic Corea’s ‘Electric City’ and heard that sweet plink of the G string (0:30)
  25. I might ban flats from BC
