1. Norman is a top man, a great inspiration to me, showed me that you can move as a bass player, you don't have to just stand there in the background, the man can play and then some, infact from another thread I would say that Norman can rock and groove! I love the rhythm stick P, watt a bass! Thanks for sharing
2. I have been interested in getter a Jazz bass for a little while, got a ray, got a P, want a Jazz. Always liked the look of the Lakland bass as its seems a bit "sleeker" and I know they are light weight but very well made, tried one at GuitarGuitar and was pretty impressed with the feel and the sound, infact very impressed. Now I have always liked the look of Jaco's jazz bass and Jazz basses in particular without scratch the plate on, I am looking to get the bass (probably secondhand) in either that nice blue or black, any one have any piccies or can provide me some piccies of a DJ, without the scratch plate on it, I like the cleanliness of line. All help greatly appreciated.
3. (puts on aussie type voice from fosters adverts) "Oh Mate, just heard terrible news, how are the Stingrays??" On a more serious note, Hope you get it all sorted out Pete.
4. Nice one, those basses will serve you well, and I love the Stingray I think they are the best "off the rack" bass in the world, I do fly the EBMM flag and proud to, US ray or a check out a good deal secondhand on the SBMM range quality machines to. Now go and lay that playhouse and tear that hat down
5. Timmy C of RATM/Audioslave does this a lot, he uses Fender Jazz and variations on, so shouldn't be a problem.
6. It depends how serious you are taking your music and the album release, also the one that a lot of people forget is how much do you artistically want to own the rights to your music,do you want it to be counted, do you want to get money from playing registered venues, do you want to have full copyright protection of your material, there is a lot a grey in the area, I consulted a top copyright lawyer (who happened to be a family friend lucky for me) and he told me of the nightmares involved, different countries will also play by different rules, or in some cases not respect them at all. A classic one for musicians is the old put cd in envelope and send it to yourself, thinking you are covered, and you have registered copyright, sadly NO it is not 100%, PRS/MCPS is not just for covers songs either, this whole area in a total minefield for musicians. Good luck mate.
7. That has gone up a shed load, it was a £100 not that long ago, not good, it is worth having though, we did all right out of it for awhile, sadly not as long as we would have liked, but it was better than nothing.
8. http://youtu.be/x8yPv0xBvgo Been a little cheeky with this one but had to share, check out the ending in particular, rather proud of it, and yes the tremolo picked riff is the bass! Cheers.
9. http://youtu.be/x8yPv0xBvgo Going to be a bit cheeky with this, it will appear in a couple of threads, but had to share, check out the ending in particular.
10. I am after another ray this year, the gilded white or a coral red classic was high on the list, but this is a nice one, few months to early for me at the moment, sorry, would love to do a deal with you. Good luck though, very fair price to mate.
11. I would certainly have a go at the rage thing, as Timmy C is dear to me. The first album was Ray 101 to me and been a fan ever since. rock on.
12. My only regret is not having more or kept them all!
13. Not to difficult for me, all I can say is it would have to be a bit live and dangerous
14. BGM this month is pretty good, I hope it is a sign of things to come, been worried of late as quality has been a little variable to say the least.
15. I found that a precision hotrod I had for a while which I had a BA2 put on it didn't sound any better that the stock fender bridge, if anything in this instance I would say it took away a bit of the bite of the Pbass, my Steve Hariss P had a BA2 and that was great, there are a lot of good parts out there at the moment, the Gotoh is well respected, bottom line does your bass sound good as it is? If yes leave it alone.
16. The way a band I was in resolved the matter was to get a sound engineer in that we all had used and respected, set up as if we were going to play a gig, facing the audience, and asked him to listen, man the pa, and give us advice on volume levels and then we asked him the golden question, "balance the sound please" It worked, we all wrote down the settings and thats what we used for rehearsals, to be fair I would rate it 95% successful.
17. I would add to the Vintage V4 but a Tony Butler one, the lVTB4, I tried one of these and for the money they are superb, shop around and I think new with discounts they are about £180
18. I have a graphite neck on my Stingray, its a Status, I think they are the best Graphite necks in the world at the moment, the tuning stability is stunning, I have no dead spots on my neck that I notice, the overall tone is very even, don't over do the treble settings or it canbe very glassy and brittle, I find that the neck is heavy and does affect the balance of the bass, so I changed to a nice wide strap, bungee like material and now have no problems at all. Now as for fitting on a Sub, ask Status themselves, and as for the fitting of the neck find a damn good shop/luthier, they have been horror stories of very bad Graphite Neck replacements, a good job with all the drilling done and a set up is going to cost you £100 or so.
19. Coldplay! I would rather put a nail through my left........
20. How many adverts were there for the Fender Bello? one? plus a lot of people thought the Squire looked better to with skull graphic, if think a few said it played better as well! I remember Frank being an ESP boy back in the day, Good band, good live saw them a few times, always entertaining. His new ESP doesn't look a bad bass, but haven't seen one for real as yet though.
21. I used to have the rule"if there are a' payin, I'm a playin!" I have player some festivals, Football/Rugby grounds, had roadies once, also played to an empty Bar of two people and got changed in the outside loo, had the good and bad, but I have to say that at the end of the day a gig is a gig, if two people clap at the end of your song or twenty thousand its still more than I got alone in my rehearsal room.
22. I have been told that I have got plenty, stage stealing moves:)
23. Funk soul brothers of the highest calibre.
24. I didn't like the first one at all, but the second I liked, nice voice, nice playing, liked what the bass guitar played, for some reason people seem to forget that the bass is a bass GUITAR, yes it needs to be used in a different manner and its "voice" maybe different but it can still be used, and I for one like it when it is, like vid 2, cheers for sharing.
25. There is a superb 77 Ray for sale on the forum at the moment, about £2k and it is a beauty, there are several ebmm and pre-ebmm guys on this site that I am sure will help you. I am a Stingray man myself and I think that off the rack there is no better made bass in the world imho. Also try www.musicmanbass.org great website for Stingray stuff.
