  1. One of a kind Flying V bass made by Ken Smith for Stanley Clarke. A cool £10k (give or take) at the Bass Gallery. Like the Spellbinder, this unfortunately does nothing for me aesthetically https://thebassgallery.com/products/ken-smith-bespoke-b-bass-1981-ex-stanley-clarke
  2. 1. Not spontaneously combusting 2. Not stage diving on to a concrete floor 3. Not preemptively attacking two people in Woolworths on the assumption they are on the rob (2 and 3 actually happened in one of my bands)
  3. "Bass is cool. Today is a great day" Noam Chomsky 🤠
  4. Bought/traded a lovely bass from Alex. As before, all good and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to other BC members.
  5. Interesting how the original saddles clearly were not fit for purpose from the picture above. So its a bit surprising that Fender should seek to replicate, even if for authenticity
  6. Originally Fender used bakelite saddles, I believe

  8. To pre-empt the inevitable (bass forum) question. He played a selection (CAR, white) of Manhattan J-style basses https://manhattanprestigebasses.com/ These retail in US at $999
  9. He was introduced last night. Sounded like Neil or Phil Dixon (Bryan Ferry was a bit muffled, when speaking). However, I googled and came up with nada so I clearly misheard
  10. Agree, very polished performance and tremendous sound (esp for the O2). I enjoyed the early/ mid 1970s output (esp Do the Strand, Re-make/ Re-model, Virginia Plain, Every home a heartache being the highlight for me) but I'm afraid the Avalon/Jealous Guy/Dance away etc 'soft rock' leaves me cold
  11. I went with Mrs C to see the Roxy Music 50th Anniversary gig at O2 last night. She is a mega-fan from the 70s, I know much less about them (they were never really my cup of tea back in the day) and so I did some googling beforehand. Obvs I checked their bassists (duh!), only to discover 4 have passed away. How very Spinal Tap
  12. As a fellow Serek owner, I would be interested to know just how light your Lincoln is? Meanwhile, this serves as a bump on me!!!!
  13. Some cracking weight conversion here!
  14. Saw James Taylor at Apollo last night. Still has that voice and what a band - Steve Gadd on drums, Jimmy Johnson on bass and a bunch of other fine players/singers

His voice is like a warm duvet. He's not a bad player either, Lee Sklar said he had great difficulty putting down basslines on his earlier stuff as JT played the basslines as well with his guitar work.

  15. Fun fact. I bought NG a pint in the hospitality bar at the (retrospectively, in the circumstances) awfully named Toxic Twin Towers ball at Wembley in 1999. Aerosmith, Lennie Kravitz and Stereophonics played. He was stood next to me and I thought about offering my services as a bass player (Guiggsy had just left). Decided against it. Probably a wise decision.
  16. PS, for those with long memories, that 2013 thread is BassChat comedy gold. Featuring the demented ramblings of the multiple times banned Inti/Redburst/whatever (kept changing profile name after being banned)
  17. Hahahaha. A few choice quotes from that 2013 thread: Me: "That looks like a £90 children's starter bass. Who would pay up for that?: @wateroftyne: "it makes me want to sick up a little bit" @Happy Jack: "Where exactly is this closet? And how can I avoid getting too close to it?"
  18. Not angry Dave's finest hour or 3 minutes: Anarchy "for the USA"
