Just bought Ed's Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor. Lovely straightforward transaction, great comms throughout, and super-quick delivery, another fine ambassador for the BC community.

I've had my Fender Musicmaster since 1993, my MIJ '51 Precision RI since 1994, and my CIJ '60s Jazz RI since 1997. Can't see myself getting rid of any of 'em any time soon, though I do occasionally think about moving the Musicmaster on as I never use it. If I did ever find myself in the position where I could only keep one, it'd definitely be the '51 - that's going nowhere!

Shonky generator outdoor gig - which amp?
tony_m replied to Beer of the Bass's topic in General Discussion
Hippie is a state of mind, nothing to do with clothes or hair anymore. Once a Hippie always a Hippie. Anyway, I am looking for a generator and I did a search for the Shonky Company and I cant find them anywhere. Can anyone help?
No generators I'm afraid, but they do make some interesting instruments... http://www.shonkymusicalinstruments.co.uk/home -

The "house" bass player at a jam night I used to go to had one of the modern reissues - it played and sounded very nice indeed.
Why does changing pots from 500k to 250k mellow the tone?
I Am Not A Techie, but apparently 500k pots basically allow more of the treble / highs in the signal from the bass to pass through to the amp, whereas 250k pots allow them to bleed away to earth while retaining the lows... http://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Online_Resources/Learn_About_Guitar_Pickups_and_Electronics_and_Wiring/Which_control_pot_to_choose.html

Met Dan this afto to relieve him of a Trace Elliot AH200 head (and probably shift the Earth's axis a bit into the bargain). Nice easy transaction, great communications, and Dan went out of his way so we could meet at a convenient location (the car park at Brownhills Motorhomes, possibly a Basschat first? ). Another excellent ambassador for the BC community, deal with confidence.
Done! I put Paul McCartney as the last answer. I think he was the guy that brought the bass out from the back of the band. If you watch '50s band footage the bassist is usually an anonymous dude thumping away at the back, whereas McCartney was at the front doing the twin guitar/vocal thing with George. That must have made a lot of kids pick up the bass back in the day.
Yup, me too...

Heather wasteland: a band with 4 bass players!
tony_m replied to ribbetingfrog's topic in General Discussion
Another band with four bass players, plus a psychotic pig, and an equally psychotic man with a mop as well... -
What value are the pots? If they're 500k or 1M, changing them to 250k will mellow things a little. A larger value tone capacitor could help too. This should be cheaper than changing pickups.
This was my first reaction too. I had an early Natural VM '70s Jazz which had 500k pots, and it sounded distinctly brighter and "twangier" than my Classic Vibe '60s Jazz with 250k pots.

Nothing very exciting / out of the ordinary, but I can offer a couple of sets of passive Jazz pups - one set are the originals from a 1997 CIJ Fender '60s Reissue, and t'other are from a 2008 Squier Classic Vibe '60s.

Am I wrong in wanting to learn the set/songs properly?
tony_m replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
Similar sort of issue here, inasmuch as I learn the notes and the arrangements, while Mr Guitar and Mr Keys tend to jam things out as they go along. On the plus side, my ability to listen to and follow them when they do deviate from "my" arrangement is definitely improving, so not altogether a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. -
Welcome to Basschat! We're not too far away from you, though of course this being Lincolnshire it always takes longer than I expect! Have to confess I know nowt about Rockschool and grades, and just muddle through the best I can. It took me a while to find a band after we moved here a year ago, but eventually I managed to convince some experienced musicians I could actually play, and we're currently working up some covers and originals. Good luck with Rockschool, and have fun!

Blimey, there's a blast from the past! The Enid played one of our 6th Form Dances in Blackpool, and I went out and bought "Aerie Faerie Nonsense" a couple of days later.
Just when I thought we had a winner that appears. Mad!
You probably won't want to see the Strat / 6-string bass doubleneck they did then... http://lindert.vintageusaguitars.com/models2/2-thumbs-up-doubleneck/

I'm still traumatised from the first time I saw a picture of a Lindert Loco-motive P Bass... http://lindert.vinta...-motive-p-bass/

For me it'd be stuff I heard on the radio (e.g. "Make Me Smile"), then records I bought (particularly John Entwistle on the aforementioned "Live at Leeds" and "Quadrophenia", and Glenn Hughes on "Made In Europe").

Crazy Horse, with NY digging the road up front.

Hi Dan, Greetings from another Lincolnshire incomer (originally from Lancashire but moved over here last year). I too started playing in the '90s, then had a break until about 2008 - while I hung onto my two original basses (both Japanese Fenders, a '51 P Re-issue and a '60s Jazz Re-issue, neither of which I'll ever part with), it wasn't until I picked up a new Squier VM Jazz that I really got enthused again. Since then (and since joining BC... ) I've acquired both a Squier CV '60s Jazz and CV '60s Precision, and can heartily recommend them. As suggested above, it might be worth getting the Aria checked out and set up professionally then seeing how you get on with that, although I'd be failing in my duty as a BC member if I didn't point out that you *will* suffer frequent attacks of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) brought on simply by hanging around on here, so don't be surprised if another instrument enters your life pretty soon!

Mike Mills for playing and singing while wearing those suits.

The whole of the "Made In Europe" album, with honourable mentions for Highway Star and Lazy from earlier days.

Just bought a Zoom 506 multi-fx pedal off David, great communications and a nice straightforward transaction. Pedal arrived in next to no time, superbly packaged, and all in working order. Deal with confidence.
