1.
HI, Just messaging this out of interest if anyone has or in a prog style band and wondering where the best places in the country for that genre are? I've been looking around in Yorkshire and can't seem to find anything. I like playing simple funk stuff but eventually I would like to make music of that ilk. Yorkshire is like the biggest county outside London as well..I know this isn't Joinmyband or anything but I'm interested if anyone has any success.
Probably a bit late in the day, but I spotted this ad while searching for a new band after moving to Lincs earlier this year. Unfortunately it's not really my sort of thing (especially as it's the nearest in terms of distance that's come up so far )... 2. Not me / no affiliation etc. Probably not for the folks who dislike road worn / relic finishes, also it's apparently rather heavy!!! 3. My Other Half tolerates my basses as long as they're kept out of the way, ditto the amps. Moving from a three-bedroom detached house to a two-bedroomed bungalow earlier this year has made this slightly more difficult, but hopefully a dedicated music room may be on the cards.
4. Confirmed hobbyist here. Happily retired, was having fun with a couple of bands (albeit only rehearsing not gigging) but had to leave them when we took the opportunity to move to the other side of the country. Now trying to find another band, but still more for fun than profit.
5. When a friend of mine emigrated a couple of years ago, she left behind a pile of unopened blank cassette tapes and mini-discs and asked if we could try and sell them for her on eBay. We were surprised at the amount of interest, and while I can't remember exactly how much they made, it was certainly more than we expected.
6. The Dandy Warhols spring to mind - I think Zia does drag out a Fender Mustang occasionally, but plays most of the basslines on the keys?
7.
I'll mention this now, then. . . . when I was a kid PEN15, an S1 Bentley, used to be seen driving around the Ealing area, west London, a lot. Always caused a snigger.
Think that belonged / belongs to Steve Parrish, former motorcycle / truck racer, now commentator?
we must be related mines BV54 LKJ, don't really get personalised number plates myself, bit to show offy for me
Yeah, I don't really get them either, but at least StevieJJ's makes sense. It's always amusing to see plates people have obviously gone to the trouble of acquiring (and in some cases tweaking) that just make you think "OK, what's that supposed to say then?"!
8. Mate of mine and his missus went to the Brum show, and reckoned it was very good. That said, they did opt for the £150 a ticket "VIP" option, which as well as front row centre seats included a pre-show meal plus unlimited free beer so it could just be the latter speaking......

11.
Forgot about hawk wind rainbow theatre, sonic attack tour. Best time I saw them .loud and sonic;) I was at the Rollins / r h c p gig at Brixton,. Didn't notice the loudness so to speak. What I do remember is Henry shouting at an imaginary crowd member" if you think you're so tough.. " etc. Pretty boring . Oh, nearly forgot Motörhead at donington 1986? Apparently could be heard 10 miles away, according to people we met on the way home next day. Sunn . Haven't heard of them . May check them out on you pube .
Just don't expect any recognisable "tunes"!!! Though you can probably expect a man dressed as a tree, throat-singing...
12. Other than various Motorhead tours over the years, the loudest of all the bands who played at our local venue back in the NWOBHM days (which included Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Samson, Saxon, Vardis et al, not to mention Blizzard of Ozz) was (suprisingly) those grand old pomp-rockers Magnum. I still use that gig as a reference point when it comes to small venues, though I have to say Sunn O))) took things to a whole new level when I saw them a few years back in Manchester - not so much listen to as feel your internal organs being rearranged!
13. Just sold Karl my Squier VM Jazz. Superbly fuss-free transaction, great communications throughout, fast payment, and he even arranged for his mate to come and collect the bass from me. Another fine ambassador for the Basschat community.
14. Cheers for the posts and PMs, busy rehearsing / recording tonight so I'll have to respond tomorrow - thanks for your interest and patience!
15. Just back from a quick trip to deliver my old Vox 3002 Custom Bass to Ash. Smooth easy transaction, and really pleased that the bass has gone to a good home and will hopefully get plenty of use now. Great chap and a pleasure to deal with, a perfect ambassador for Basschat.
16.
You're doing a good thing for the bass community! I have myself been the recipient of some incredible bargains on this forum recently, and this looks like another.
Cheers! I've had nothing but good deals (and pleasant surprises like upgraded pups) on BC too, so I guess it's payback time!
17.
That is ridiculously cheap... it's worth more than that for the pups! And the hard case. I'm surprised at the nut width. Mine's a treetrunk - one of the reasons it's under the bed feeling lonely.
Yeah, it's always struck me as a wide neck overall, but the nut's definitely only 38 / 39mm, unless of course my cheap ruler (and even cheaper eyes) weren't telling the truth! And yes, I guess I probably have undervalued it, but tbh it needs to go so......
18. Cheers! But I possibly ought to point out that neither of my Precisions or Jazzes would fit in the Hiscox case as it's a bit too shallow / well-padded for them, so it may not actually work for anything other than the Vox.
19. Vox 3002 Custom bass Following info taken from here... http://www.voxshowro...gs/1982_p4.html Japanese (Aria / Matsumoku) made Honey polyester finish 34 inch scale length, 24 fret 2 octave neck Extra wide through body neck design Full specification DiMarzio P Bass and J Bass pickups Guitar constructed entirely from hard rock maple Mode switch selecting series/parallel or coil tap on both pickups simultaneously Three way pickup selector, tone and volume controls Deluxe bass bridge and tail piece assembly Nut width: 38mm I bought this bass s/h in the mid 90s as I fancied a PJ-style bass, but after the initial excitement had worn off it's just lurked in its case under the bed while I followed a more traditional P and J path! It's in reasonable condition, although the headstock is rather battered around the edges. There's what appears to be a crack in the neck near the nut, but it doesn't seem to have got any worse over the 20 or so years I've owned it so I suspect it may just be in the lacquer. One of the selector switches was broken off when I bought it, and the other had lost its plastic tip - I never got round to sorting either problem. Strung with what I suspect are Fender nickel rounds as these were my preferred string at the time I bought it. Weight 10.75 lbs. Hiscox Liteflite hard-case included. More info and pics of similar basses can be found here... http://pulvoweb.chez...avox/mavox.html http://pulvoweb.chez.../mavox/vox.html Sorry, UK only, payment by cash or bank transfer, and no trades as I need to cull the herd prior to moving house / downsizing. I'd prefer the buyer to collect, though I should also be able to meet up / deliver within a reasonable distance of Blackpool.
20. Price or Trade Value: REDUCED TO £125.00 Squier Vintage Modified '70s Jazz Bass Maple body, maple C-shape neck, maple fingerboard, 20 frets, 2 "Duncan Designed" Single-Coil Jazz Bass Pickups, black pickguard, scale: 864mm (34"), nut width: 38mm, radius: 241mm (9.5"), colour: Natural. I bought this bass new in late 2007 / early 2008, and it's in pretty much as-new condition (in fact it's only been out of the house once, and that was to Karlfer's to test an amp I was buying off him). Nicely-matched two-piece body, very resonant, strung with TI JF344 flats. Minor cosmetic changes comprise a Wilkinson bridge with brass saddles, black plastic top-hat control knobs (original knurled metal knobs will be included as well), and a maple Guy Lewis tug-bar. Weight 9.75 lbs. Stagg gig-bag included. Sorry, UK only, payment by cash or bank transfer, and no trades as I need to cull the herd prior to moving house / downsizing. I'd prefer the buyer to collect, though I should also be able to meet up / deliver within a reasonable distance of Blackpool.
