If you could have any one bass in the FS section
tony_m replied to GreeneKing's topic in General Discussion
Being a bit of a traditionalist (some might say an unimaginative-ist), for me it's got to be either the Slab Precision, or the '78 Antigua Jazz. Edit: Just noticed the Jazz is now sold pending, so I guess that's out of the equation... -
Miserable? Or just par for the course in Blizz World? https://youtu.be/TSIdpz7y79I
I don't know, but it stays sharp to the bottom of the glass.
And that will probably only make sense to those of us of a "certain age"...

Another from JMB... "Creative bass guitarist wanted I treat those whose only ambition in life is to be in covers bands with complete disdain. 'I want to be in a covers band' translates as 'I want an easy life and I don't have a creative bone in my body'. It's particularly annoying when, for example, a 17-year-old lad places an ad on here saying he wants to be in a covers band. What a f*cking waste of potential talent! Have you no ambition? Have you no drive?! I'm a talented (if slightly pretentious, hence my username) singer/songwriter/guitarist and I'm looking for a creative, musical bassist with whom to form a duo. Some knowledge of music theory would be a distinct advantage. Covers-only, lazy b@stards for whom playing seedy back-street pubs and clubs is the be-all and end-all NEED NOT APPLY! Absolutely NO root, third and fifth note merchants!!" Don't think I'll be applying... Fender Japan Jazz Bass Experts Required to spot potential fake
tony_m replied to FatFingersFlynn's topic in Bass Guitars
For what it's worth, the trussrod adjuster on my '97/98 CIJ '60s Jazz Re-Issue is definitely at the body end, together with the matching cut-out in the scratchplate and no skunk-stripe. I'd also have thought that the serial number should be on a "Made In Japan" sticker on the flattened section of the neck down towards the heel, not on the front of the headstock like this? Would be visible on this pic... http://s50.photobuck...tml?sort=3&o=13 Oh, and the "Jazz Bass" bit should be a different font, with "TRADE MARK" and "ELECTRIC BASS" underneath it, and the "Offset Contour Body" logo alongside if it's truly meant to represent a '60s Jazz? All that said, mine is CIJ rather than MIJ, but I wouldn't have thought they'd have been that different... -
Unless anything else crops up in the meantime, it'll probably be Sky Valley Mistress at the Firebug in Leicester at the beginning of December.
Well, Jow has really gone all out to take his un-asked for market research onboard For years I've wanted something this different, yet retro. The cost has always been prohibitive. To get one with a jazz neck, single chrome covered pup, in the colour/plate/ board I want, for around the cost of a used Mex Standard Precision. LIFE IS TOO SHORT NOT TO, Hell yeah! Already counting the days until my Sea Foam Green turns up

Looking forward to reading your report of it!
And it then appearing in the Basses For Sale section shortly afterwards... (sorry Karl, somebody had to say it!)
The song "Thriller", Was originally called "Skegness" Quite a few of the Skeggy residents appear in the music video.
Yep, most of them can still be seen in Skeg Morrisons on a Monday morning...

Where is Skegness? About 10 miles up the road from us!
HI, Just messaging this out of interest if anyone has or in a prog style band and wondering where the best places in the country for that genre are? I've been looking around in Yorkshire and can't seem to find anything. I like playing simple funk stuff but eventually I would like to make music of that ilk. Yorkshire is like the biggest county outside London as well..I know this isn't Joinmyband or anything but I'm interested if anyone has any success.
Probably a bit late in the day, but I spotted this ad while searching for a new band after moving to Lincs earlier this year. Unfortunately it's not really my sort of thing (especially as it's the nearest in terms of distance that's come up so far )... Spouses, do they like or hate your instruments?
tony_m replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
My Other Half tolerates my basses as long as they're kept out of the way, ditto the amps. Moving from a three-bedroom detached house to a two-bedroomed bungalow earlier this year has made this slightly more difficult, but hopefully a dedicated music room may be on the cards. -
Confirmed hobbyist here. Happily retired, was having fun with a couple of bands (albeit only rehearsing not gigging) but had to leave them when we took the opportunity to move to the other side of the country. Now trying to find another band, but still more for fun than profit.

I wrote a book about being in a covers band

Purchased! -
When a friend of mine emigrated a couple of years ago, she left behind a pile of unopened blank cassette tapes and mini-discs and asked if we could try and sell them for her on eBay. We were surprised at the amount of interest, and while I can't remember exactly how much they made, it was certainly more than we expected.

The Dandy Warhols spring to mind - I think Zia does drag out a Fender Mustang occasionally, but plays most of the basslines on the keys?
I'll mention this now, then. . . . when I was a kid PEN15, an S1 Bentley, used to be seen driving around the Ealing area, west London, a lot. Always caused a snigger.
Think that belonged / belongs to Steve Parrish, former motorcycle / truck racer, now commentator?
we must be related mines BV54 LKJ, don't really get personalised number plates myself, bit to show offy for me
Yeah, I don't really get them either, but at least StevieJJ's makes sense. It's always amusing to see plates people have obviously gone to the trouble of acquiring (and in some cases tweaking) that just make you think "OK, what's that supposed to say then?"!

Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow 25/6/16
tony_m replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
Mate of mine and his missus went to the Brum show, and reckoned it was very good. That said, they did opt for the £150 a ticket "VIP" option, which as well as front row centre seats included a pre-show meal plus unlimited free beer so it could just be the latter speaking...... -
Yep, knackered his shoulder in April apparently... http://ultimateclass...hill-tour-2016/
Forgot about hawk wind rainbow theatre, sonic attack tour. Best time I saw them .loud and sonic;) I was at the Rollins / r h c p gig at Brixton,. Didn't notice the loudness so to speak. What I do remember is Henry shouting at an imaginary crowd member" if you think you're so tough.. " etc. Pretty boring . Oh, nearly forgot Motörhead at donington 1986? Apparently could be heard 10 miles away, according to people we met on the way home next day. Sunn . Haven't heard of them . May check them out on you pube .
Just don't expect any recognisable "tunes"!!! Though you can probably expect a man dressed as a tree, throat-singing...
