Hi there

Welcome aboard

4. Hi, and welcome aboard
5. It will look good. May have some impact on the sound but I would have thought it to be minimal if you are talking about an amp head. A combo/speaker cab is a different proposition and I would have thought mahogany would be good for this. From what I understand (which is not that much) a rigid/stiff enclosure is important, so thinckness and bracing is as important as the choice of wood.
6. I have gone through a fair few backlines in my day and much of it comes down to personal preference and the headroom you can get away with. One of the key things I have noted about 'high end' gear is that they retain there fundamental sound at higher volumes. My TC RH 450/Markbass TA 501 plus Bewrgantino cabs sound great at medium large gigs as not only do the combinations have volume but they maintain the clarity and puch I'm looking for. I have had a number of lower powered amps/combos that sounded really good at rehearsals/small gigs, but when being driven lose the definition and punch I'm looking for.
7. Very nice
8. Wow, just caught up on this thread. I have to say I would like to have the ability that Mark King has, and Flea, and Chris Squire, and Larry Graham, and and and.........there are a lot of seriously good players out there and the reason they have made a great living out of playing bass is because they are seriously good. There, I've said it now.
9. Welcome aboard. You've got some nice gear. I tried out the Vanderkley 1x12's and were impressed, although I ended buying a pair of Bergantino's which had the edge in the sweetness of the treble.
10. No horseshoe - have the original pickups been swapped out!!!!
11.
Does this mod change the impedance of the cab at all? It seems to me that it might reduce the impedance, risking damage to the amp, but a multimeter will quickly tell you whether or not that's the case.
Nope - speaker is 8 ohms and the amp can cope down to 4 ohms
12. Welcome aboard
13. Welcome aboard
14. If you have a rack my favourite is the DBA160A - very easy to use and very transparent
15.
I was The Wt 400 wont run down to 2 ohms the wt 550 will I said you CANT run 2 four ohm cabs without fiddling about [but you could run it with the speakers rewired to 8 ohms]
I misunderstood - Ithought you meant by changing the internals of the amp somehow.
16. I'm using my Warwick Thumb NT in the fnction band I play in - very versatile
17.
Very interesting that. I'm getting the 121H extension this weekend, so pesumably will be able to dial in the (better) horn on that in place of the piezo on the combo. I've only gigged it once and didn't find it too offensive, but there was definitely a brightness to the click (I play slap upright ... Willie Dixon / Larry Taylor style) which I was tempted to tame, but without losing top end of the tone. Think I'll try this little experiment too then. A fellow poster over on doublebasschat.com was enquiring about the distinct hiss that comes from the piezo too, thought there was trouble there, but seems it's just normal.
You will be surprised how good the single 12" speaker is without the piezo - it does have decent treble extension
18. One of my favourites is: http://www.jayrosen.com/
19. You could always play up the neck......
20. Welcome aboard
21. Welcome and good luck in your search. I have a great '79 'Ray, really light and resonant (most others I have tried have been on the weighty side).
22. Welcome, that will be one expensive bass as you will need to buy a Wal to get hold of the electronics!
23.
I never realised Markbass didn't have a control for the high end on the piezo? Is this true on all of their combos?!
Not sure about other combo's but that is the case for the CMD 121P
