I would go for the 121H - I find the piezo tweeters on Markbass cabs too 'scratchy' and not pleasant at all (I disconnected the piezo on my 121P combo and it is all the better for it)

The MM is active for a start - and not a particularly good pre-amp judging by the one I tried a few years back. Are you talking about the US Standard - if so there is quite a lot of differences. The main ones being that US Standard has: Passive electronics High mass bridge Through body stringing Graphite re-inforced necks Lightweight tuners Typically an alder body (as opposed to Ash) Comes with case

My first bass bought for me by my dad back in '75 which he got from a friend of his and I've still got it: My amp set up was a Dan Armstrong valve head (I think this was the first amp to have a graphic equaliser) sitting on top of a HH 2x15. These have long gone, not that I would want them back!

£25 for a shop to do it is probably about right - it will take then at least 30 minutes to do the job. If you are competent with a soldering iron I'd say do it yourself - if not, don't even try. I picked up a bass once where someone had installed a Sadowsky pre-amp and they made such a bad job it ended up ruining it

Welcome to the forum. Such a great piece of kit but the weight of SVT's have really reduced their appeal due to the plethora of really good lightweight amps now available

The Matamp is a cool amp but if I were going to live with weight of a valve amp again I would get an SVT

I had one back in the early 80's. Nice bass although the sound is very mid biased - it certainly worked well with the keyboard based music that was prominent back then.
