1.
Because old amps are seen as heavy, inefficient and electrical goods aren't generally known for getting better with age. For that reason (and quite rightly imo) old amps aren't seen as being cool or better. It is however widely accepted that some guitars sound and feel better and look cooler with a degree of "mojo" and history.
Oh, I don't know about that... It sounds the biz too.
2. Because new relics look rubbish?
3. Tablature can be better for understanding certain passages, such as harmonics played on certain frets. Try reading the score for "High speed on ice" by Talas (or probably any Talas score). Knowing how to play those harmonics is gonna take a lot of trial & error. Tab shows the string & where the hand should be. With harmonics, it can be written as 3 1/4, 3 3/4 etc. You get good TAB, just as you get good score. Anyone who only stays with either tab or score is holding themselves back & not making the most of their musical ability.
4. I can read both, I prefer score for the more accurate timing & notation, but I like tab for it's simpleness. Many of the books I have show score and tablature together, which makes things very easy & good for getting the right fingers on the right strings (I know, score has timrp, but that doesn't say which string). However, most internet tab... It is evil & often as accurate as a drunk trying to not pee on his leg. I don't use either score nor tab that often anymore. My band is an originals band & any songs we do cover are not carbon versions & the other band is the church band, I get emailed a bunch of songs via youtube links, some chord charts & that's me. Often I get the email on Friday or Saturday for playing on Sunday & I get to listen to each song once or twice. This is one place that score would be nice, especially as mid sermon the MD sends a message to the band saying "We'll end with xxxxxx" & it's usually a song that I've never heard before. Saying that, I've not struggled at all with it.
5.
"safe & vault engineer"
Is that the same as a "heist operative"?
6. I'd check your van's weight limits first. You don't want to go over this or you could have trouble braking. Vans are usually adequate for band vehicles, but your's is a Nissan. I've got a Nissan, they're usually underpowered & I don't trust anything Nissan say.
7. Look at those clouds above. If that, not enough doom, then you've also got a traction engine. Imagine getting knocked down by one of those!!!
8. Thanks guys n gals. There was a lot of great entries this month & I think any could easily have won. But I'm chuffed. I've messaged Dad a pic, so hopefully it gives you all some good inspiration.
9. Reaper can take a little setting up, but there's plenty of things online to help you & once it's done, it's done. If I didn't have Logic, then Reaper would be my "go to" DAW.
10. Home insurance most likely won't cover the full ban, but if each band member has home insurance, then there's a chance everyone can be covered.. It will cover "you" and your responsibility to the public as long it is within their terms. My home insurance allows me to note items as "Tools" if I use them for business, but if I was doing fairly regular gigs, then they may not cover. In the past, I used New Moon for my gear & they give band PLI with their cover.
11. I'm more a Vectrex man myself.
12.
(Hasty re-writes on all sides, sounds of reams of finely-scored music sheets being screwed up and tossed over shoulders into an already-overflowing bin... Cries of 'Too late..!' as the realisation that it is, indeed, now too late to offer a fresh masterpiece based on this new and exciting revelation takes grasp behind fevered brows... Groans of despair fill the air...)
I think whomever wins now has to find a pic of Rolf & Emu with ET.
13.
I bet Rod Hull is thrilled that his bird, is sitting on a Camel with Rolf Harris in the middle of the Desert...
Makes for a more interesting song. Rolf's kidnapped Emu & taking her to KFC.
14. It's Rolf Harris & Emu on a camel! Had I noticed that at the start, my entry would have been very different.
15. You could get Logic X. It's a great investment, even just for drummer.
16.
What version of Logic are you running? Logic X has been out for over 4 years, I guess they think that there are very few people still running it. It's the same when any operating system changes. I know people who use ProTools on PCs, they found they couldn't open it when they updated from whatever Windows system they use.
But... Logic X is the current one. I use it & never got any email about it not being compatible with the OS update.
17. If you're running Logic Pro 9 or earlier, then I can understand where they're coming from. I agree that they should offer a discount, but then again, Logic Pro X is already a bargain considering all what you get with it.
18. How very dare you imply that none of the BC community have a sense of humour! In the subject of correct grammar, getting your capital letters in the right place is important too, especially if you want to help your uncle Jack off a horse.
19.
People applaud the drummer at the end of his solo. They are celebrating the fact that it's over.
You know, that's probably true!
20. I'm not strictly a blues player, but it's where I started with learning bass & many of my bands over the years have had some blues songs in there. I'd never dream of staying down by the nut, that's just not right. I'm not saying that every song I try & play a lead line or solo, far from it. What I do is try & emphasise what the singer is doing or build a crescendo up to a chorus or break. If you listen to a lot of the upright players, not many of them stay at the nut, so why should the shoulder slung one be any different? There should be no dusty end!
21. I use a compressor in VST format. I use a valve amp live.
22. I'd watch some vids & read up about what both a compressor does & what EQ does. If you can get a compressor with some sort of meter, it'll allow you to judge what you're doing easier. When I was fairly new to compressors, I got a lend of a Boss compressor pedal & all & seemed to be able to do was raise the noise floor. If you've got a computer & can plug your bass in to it, play about with a VST compressor & get a feel for what it does. If you've got access to Lynda.com, have a look at Billy Sheehan talking about compression.
23. If it's a 2x2 config, I'd imagine the dispersion would be really narrow. Which is fine for a personal monitor.
24.
I was saved from that mistake because it wouldn't fit in the pan, even dipping the headstock and neck in and waiting for it to soften up like spaghetti...
Ikea sell big pans (for lots of strings that is).
25.
I've only ever snapped one bass string in my life and I beat basses to death - and that snapped one had been boiled quite a few times (in my student days with a bass that didn't do brightness very well...)
I hope you took the string off the bass first?
