1. Over the years I have played some TE amps as backline and have always had an amazing sound on stage. I like hitting the amps front end hard with a P-Bass mainly to get a rockier tone and with the TE's it is like heaven. I am also toying with the idea of going for a TE amp for stage use so let us know how it goes!
  2.
Latest
That Noble DI... Great piece of kit
  3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWfrvskvyK4 JMJ talks about his signature Mustang to Reverb at NAMM '17
  4.
I'm not sure why I'd buy this over a £500 MIJ other than paying a £350 premium for the colour?!
+1, I have a CIJ Mustang and it is a lovely bass
  5. I'll stick to my CIJ Mustang bass for now... love the colour though! I thought they would have gone for a Jaguar bass with the P/J setup (but Troy Sanders has a Sig model) or maybe a J bass with the white Dimarzio's that he played in NIN, or even a long scale Mustang.
  6.
The original CS '59 is one of Fenders best p pick ups.
+1 for the '59 pup.
  7. It is always a pleasure doing business with Chris. This is the 3rd neck I have bought from him (he's my Official Parts Supplier now... ). Great guy, great comms and sells great gear, what else can you ask for?
  8. Got a funky looking p-bass body from Tom as a test bench for some of my mods and ideas. Great to deal with, excellent comms and easy transaction. He supplied a tracking number and the body was well packed. Will certainly deal with Tom in the future if the opportunity arises.
  9.
My brother in law travelled to Norway for a gig recently by air. Both on his out flight and his return flight, his electric guitar got trashed by ground staff. Luckily he's handy with a soldering iron and managed to repair it before the gig. My niece, who has her own band, had the same experience when she travelled to Australia for a tour this May. It was in a professional flight case but somebody still managed to do serious damage to it. Luckily she had her dad with her (my brother in law) as her guitar tech and he managed to put it back together. I'd hate for my pride and joy to be damaged by neanderthal like, ground staff. Good luck......you'll probably need it.
Thank you for sharing your stories Gjones. That is the main fear... I don't know what I would do if one of my basses comes with a snapped neck of bashed body... especially just before a long recording session. On the other hand, Janek Gwizdala in one of his videos talks about not having any issues with flying around the World with his Fodera into a SKB Bass Safe, which essentially is a hard ABS shell that fits your gig bag into it (which does not look very safe to me...). I have started to contemplate the idea of just getting quality backline (2-3 basses) and avoiding any possible issues.
  10. It is an early 50's P-bass control plate that seems to have been wired for 2 pups just like the early J-Bass with concentric pots (Vol + tone stacked for each pup.
  11.
Hi Byo I have a Fusion double gig bag and it's excellent - there's a review here somewhere. I also got lucky on eBay and won a Scott Dixon built Fender case. It's the same basic construction as their normal cases but the inside is a bit more basic, with simple dividers rather than the locking sort they do now. I'm in York and if you wanted to borrow it, or check out the Fusion case, let me know! Cheers ped
Wow Ped, that looks amazing. Deffo is perfect for touring. Thanks for offering assistance! BChat love all around! I have until Feb next year to figure out a solution...
  12.
Might be worth keeping an eye on eBay for second hand flight cases for other things, big keyboards, cabs, stuff like that jumps to mind. Then you could foam them out within an inch of their lives. Will be expensive to get on the plane though I think.
Great idea, I have also seen some people use riffle cases (which seem to be pretty robust too).
Get a proper flight case. £500 is nothing to protect your musical children.
Haha! Absolutely!
  13. Billy Sheehan has been running his bass in stereo for 30-odd years (or more) and he gets a massive tone. Not a big fan of RB as it all sounds a bit the same to me, but on the technical side I am big fan as it takes a lot of "cojones" to pull-off the playing, signal switching and singing all at once.
  14. Really nice! Not a big fan of the headstock design but the body looks amazing with the contours and the added magnetic pup.
  15. Chris was amazing. I posted on the Wanted section as I was looking for a Boss DD3 and he offered me one at a good price. Comms were great and clear. Deal with confidence! Will certainly deal with Chris again in the future if the occasion arises.
  16. The PD7 is the first effect pedal I ever bought and I still have it. It was my main drive for a few years too and used to pair it with a Darkglass B3K (1st edition). Awesome sound and extremely underrated. My sound was setting to OD, gain to around 9-10 o'clock, a little Bass boost and a tiny cut on the highs and it was an awesome OD with a P-Bass. Nice to see that I am not alone!
  17.
Fusion do a double gig bag, it's pretty bombproof and you could pack it up more inside for the plane journey. Depends whether you think that is safe enough
Thanks Cuzzie. Yup, seen the Fusion bag but not sure if the basses would survive the hold or the ground staff at the airports... Still looking for a bomb-proof solution.
  18.
The Creamery and Oil City both do their own takes, or will rewind the modern Fender efforts (which are basically a standard humbucker in a big shiny box) to something more closely approximating the original spec.
+1
  19. Hi y'all, Just wanted some ideas/advice as I will be recording overseas February next year and ideally I would like to take at least 2 of my basses on a plane. Obviously I am looking for a secure system that ideally holds at least 2 instruments in one enclosure as logistic costs need to be kept as low as possible. I have already looked into custom flight cases and even the triple bass cases from Scott Dixon https://www.scottdix...riple-bass-case but they cost over half a grand!!! Thanks in advance for your suggestions! Cheers, Byo
  20. Always have a chat with the sound engineer and see what is "cooking". If your amp is an important part of your tone and you have the capability of using its DI, why should you not be able to use it live? Engineers may be picky sometimes but being nice helps and lets face it, its just unplugging an XLR from a DI box and plugging it back to your amp, quick line/level check and good to go. My setup is similar to ahpook's as I use my board to feed the FOH a good quality sound and use the backline amp as a stage monitor. This as proven to be the best option both in quality of FOH sound and hassle-free for the engineer (and me!).
  21.
Now then, if I were running a music shop, I'd ask a few astute questions:

What sort of music are you playing?
What's your budget?
Anything you don't like? (pointy, sunbursts, Fenders, etc.)
Active/passive?
Desired pickup configurations
And so on. Your request is a little too open...
+1
  22. Just bought a set of La Bella flats that Dave was selling. The strings were brand new and arrived quickly and perfectly packed. The communication was great and clear. A pleasure doing business with you Dave!

    GigRig Three2one

I think that the GigRig Three2One will do the job perfectly as every bass will have a boost/cut section to even out the general signal before it hits your pedals. Another solution is the Source Audio programable EQ as you can store presets (volume/gain) but you would have to switch cables with every bass swap.
  24. Just browsed their website and they have some really nice straps, thanks for the link!
