1. That Bronco sure looks amazing! Good job with the mods! Btw, how does the hot rails sound on bass?
I used a Hot rail guitar pickup in mine, and made a new pickguard. I cut down a jazz bass control plate tomake a sort of "faux-Mustang" vibe I know the pole pieces lining up are good in terms of aesthetics, but most pickups have a magnetic field that aren't affected by pole pieces being a bit out of line. 2. Glad to see that it all turned out ok with Thomann. How is the P-Bass V??? The OW and CAR colours look amazing. Does the B string sound any good?
3. That is an eye catcher for sure. Lovely looking SoundGear. My first bass was also a SoundGear and the neck is amazing on these: skinny and super fast. Enjoy!!!
4. Lovely bass... just 1 string too many for me. GLWTS!
5. +1 on the Brown Dog, love mine. IE Oxide could be another option. I have a Copilot FX Orbit and it has some cool features on it too, maybe worth checking out.
6. Amazing pics mate. These P-Bass are really cool... Slim neck, Candy Apple Red colour, Badass and a Quarter Pounder p/up. What's not to like? Btw, how would you compare it to the Mark Hoppus sig. bass? Same p/up but I'm guessing different sound due to the body wood. GLWTS!
7. Please keep the porn going guys... more pics, more pics!!!
8. Oh My Dog... They all look great and sound amazing! I considered a Limelight a few months ago but did not give a shot in the end due to purchasing a lovely ´79 Yamaha BB1200 from a fellow B'chatter, but now GAS is growing...
9. Really interesting! As you say, the Kala seems to go a bit out of intonation the more down the neck you go. How is the MicroBass then? Same issues? I am guessing that the extra 3" on the scale helps a bit.
10. 55 quid is a great bargain!!! Congrats mate! Great pedal.
11. Swollen Pickle hands down. Yes, it has a ton of controls (internals too) but once you know what they do you can get pretty amazing sounds out of it and the low end on tap is an added bonus. I have various "muffs" and that mid scoop thing just does not work live. A little off topic but my favourite fuzz atm is the Chunk Systems - Brown Dog. Simple and versatile. Cheers
12. What are you trying to achieve with the boost? Understanding what you want will give you (and us) a better idea of where to place it. Is your amp solid state or valve? (Cannot see on my phone if you have a signature). Cheers.
13.
This is pedal porn.....does anyone wasn't to buy my kidney ?
LOL...this is Hardcore Shep! Too much good gear and so little money... Ahhhhrg!!!
14. Lovely bass! The added D-Tuner just makes it even better. What is the weight??? GLWTS mate!
15. Amazing Yammy you got there! GLWTS mate!
16. I thought you could get Jason Newstead's 80's sound by turning the volume totally down on your amp??? LOL... just joking. It is a shame that some of the mixes lack Jason's bass in them, the songs would only get better. Cheers!
17. My Fender Reggie Hamilton Sig. Jazz bass is an all black bass that looks sooooo cool (bass, pick guard, pickups, controls and rosewood fingerboard). But it is the only black bass that I have and I doubt I would get another all black bass (maybe with a maple neck though...). Cheers.
18. Now that I have checked some photos, I may have got confused with the plastic cover on the pickguard. As you say, the bass was lovely and if I was looking for a shortscale I would probably go for this bass. Enjoy yours!
Nice review, I got one on Saturday in Candy red. Pick guard is three ply BWB and in my opinion nice. Build and finish are as good as my Pawn Shop Mustang (also in Candy Red) Set up spot on, not a single buzz or rattle. Fitted Chrome flats, much improved the tone that was previously a bit uhmmmm zingy for my taste. Anyway here is a link to another post with some pics http://basschat.co.u...ss/page__st__30
19. That Candy Apple Red looks amazing!!! Enjoy!
20. +1. The Multicomp is an amazing tool. I use the Tubesim and have it on all the time. Being an opto compressor, the Multicomp tends to fatten the sound really nice and the Tubesim has something going on in the midrange that makes the bass cut nicely through the mix.
very different boxes. It's hard to put it in words... The LMB-3 does a decent job as a limiter without affecting (much) the sound of your bass (I would not bother with the Enhance knob, it doesn't do anything I like enough to put up with the added hiss). The MultiComp is my favourite compressor (I own two!). It's not the most transparent, but it's really easy to set up and adjust so that it tightens up the sound (I use it primarily to reduce the disparity in volume between finger-style and slap, but also because it just makes slap sound nicer and "rounder"). If you like the inherent sound of the Multicomp, it's hard to beat. I use mostly the dual-band setting (MB), but the "Tubesim" setting has a little less coloration and fattens up the sound more... Pretty cool box. Both are good at something different... I'd go with the Multicomp everytime, 'though.
21. As Old Ben says above, examples of the "tone" you are looking for would help. For me, the EBS Multicomp does the job perfectly. Fattens my sound and gives me a lovely presence that does not feel artificial at all. Another cool pedal, but different to the Multicomp, is the Wren&Cuff Phat Phuk B. Yes it is a booster, but id adds a nice sparkle in the top end, gives you some nice extra grittier mids and keeps your low end nicely. Depends on what you are looking for mate.
22. Just tried one out on today in GAK. I wrote a little review here: http://basschat.co.u...cale-jazz-bass/
23. I saw that GAK had these in stock and I happened to be around Brighton today (amazing weather btw) and decided to test drive this interesting and super affordable bass. I tried the Candy Apple Red one and I these are my impressions (never done a review before, so please be nice ) It felt heavier than I expected. I have a Fender Precision Bass Junior which is a rare short scale that I bought in Wunjo Guitars London back in 2010 and the Jazz Bass was way more heavier than the P (not good or bad, just heavier). The neck is finished in a high gloss poly finish which kind of sticks to your hands sometimes, it is a shame as the neck would be super fast. Really nice size and not deep at all (good as I have smaller hands). The Candy Apple Red was lovely, also finished in a glossy finish compared to the other Modern Player (double humbucker JB) that are satin finished, and the colour really popped out. The pickguard was a 1-ply black guard that looked a bit cheap, the 2vol + 1tone controls (jazz style) are mounted to the plastic pickguard (similar style to the Fender Mark Hoppus Sig. Bass), so no metal control plate here (a shame, as I like the contrast of the chrome on JB´s). The knobs had a nice feel to them, not to hard and not to wobbly, just the right ammount of resistance. The bridge is Fender´s take on the Badass II. Looks the same but has Fender written on it. No complaints regarding the bridge, it felt solid and did not rattle. Tuners looked the same as the ones on my Squier VM Fretless P-Bass, generic Fender-style tuners that do their job. Nothing fancy here. The neck plate is nicely decorated with Fender written on it (nice touch). Now the sounds: (I was plugged into a GK combo with the EQ all flat) The bass lacked some low end, when compared to a full sized P or J, but it had enough body so it did not feel like a toy. With both p/ups full and tone wide open, the JB sounded nice and modern, slightly mid scooped and perfect for some finger style and felt at home for some slap. P-Bass p/up solo sounded a bit boomy/undefined (I believe it was the amp´s location in the room), so I backed of the bass eq on the amp and I ended up with a standard P-Bass sound that has something going in the low-mids that I love. Playing with the tone knob gave some interesting flavours, but the knob had only 3 distinctive sounds (full, half-way, off), so not very touch sensitive (but I like it that way, I am not a knob tweaker). The J-Bass p/up solo sounded a bit thin and with less volume when compared to the P p/up, some hight adjustment could cure the issue. The sound was nassal and burpy (as expected) and good for harmonics and detailed finger style. The bass had plenty of sustain, and the string tension was really nice. I could bend easily but still have enough tension in the strings so that they did not feel floppy (pretty nice setup from the guys at GAK). My favourite playing style was palm mutted, this bass had some nice thump going on. No fretting noise, could bend nicely around the 16-20 frets without the notes farting out (bass only has 18 frets). The factory strings are nothing special, I would change them straight away for some quality flats or rounds. Overall: PROS: Lovely size. Confy sized neck (speciall if you have smaller hands). Versatile (best of both worlds, P and J in one bass). Candy Appel Red is always a great colour for a Fender bass. Amazing price (300 quid). CONS: the pickups are nothing special. They do their job, but do not have character. The pickguard felt cheap. The neck finish was a bit sticky (even the guy from GAK mentioned that this was one of the flaws of the bass). Only 18 frets (bad if you really need them). The bass is made in China and it felt like a Squier with a Fender decal on it. Nothing wrong with that (I own several Squier basses and guitars) but do not expect a "Fender USA" finish and sound from it. Would I buy it? Yes but sadly I would probably spend some money in a set of p/ups, flatwound strings, sand the neck finish down and give it a good setup... and that would cost me a few bob extra, so not pretty sure.
24. Sorry if I seem stupid, but is your location Perth (Scotland) or Perth (Australia). GLWTS mate!
25. Hi Shep, Nice set of pedals there. Could you explain a little more about the Devi Ever? GLWTS mate!
