1. Hi y'all, Just saw both "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" and "The Wrecking Crew" documentaries about US session players back in the 60's. Great stuff and really inspiring. It is amazing to see that just a bunch of musicians made most of the music that was coming out of the US and the ups and downs associated with session work and musical trends. Nice to see some special mention to the bass players too with James Jamerson and Bob Babbit in the Detroit scene and Carol Kaye and Joe Osborn (among others) in the LA scene. As I mention above, really inspiring stuff that made me want to play more and more. If you have not seen them, please do so! Cheers, Byron.
2. I was so tempted to get this one... enjoy!!!
3. I think most of us agree that they should have gone for the SR body shape... the BTB just looks weird IMHO
4. Nope... still waiting it seems.
5. Wow, that is a really cool bass!
6.
We need photo's, dude! D.
+1!
7. Good to read that it can also do a warm tube sound.
8. Found this demo of the pedal on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHTk_xikJqc Does it represent the sound and tone that you get with yours? (I could only play it through the little speaker on my work PC).
9. Markbass all the way. As already mentioned, they are loud and warm sounding and with the filters (mid-scoop and treble roll off) you can get what you are looking for and leave the EQ for precise adjustments. I own the Little Rocker 500 which has an added tube for some grit, but in esence it is a LM3 and it is one of the best amps I have ever heard (and light). Try to check both a Markbass and a TC (with your bass and cabs if possible) and let your ears do the judgment. Good luck!
10. Is the Markbass still available?
11. Nooooo, not another one! You have a lovely taste for P-Basses mate, this and the Squier sure look the part. How is the neck on this one? GLWTS!
12. Hi Darren, Lovely P you have there! What is the weight and how would you discribe the neck? GLWTS
13. Very nice! I like the control plate design.
14. Agree with you Si. Both shape and pups are just wrong... Maybe with a SR body and some traditional looking pups (i.e. 5 string jazz bass singles size) they would have nailed it. Better luck next time Ibanez...
15. Pics please !!! I am sure it is a lovely bass. GLWTS mate!

noisy pots

Cleaning the pots just extends their usable life and it is a way of maintaining your instrument (like cleaning it, changing strings, setups...) Pots normally have an "x" amount of turns until they start failing unless they are being abused or stored in bad conditions (damp, dust, etc...) which will make them go "caput" even sooner. I normally use Servisol and if a pot is giving serious issues, I whack a new quality replacement in. I am tempted to use the bike chains method though... LOLOL
17. Lovely Nash! If I just had the cash... GLWTS, great price!
18.
Ah, sorry mate. If it's any consolation I'm working on a newly acquired project 70's Telecaster Bass that weighs close to 12lbs, and I have a mid '70s ash hardtail Strat that weighs close to 10lbs. Both make the Warmoth feel like playing a feather
Ouch!!!
19. It certainly looks like the 80's Jazz Bass Special that Doug Mckagan (or however you write his name) from Guns&Roses used to play in the day minus de j-pup. I am not sure about the bridge, on the photo it looks quite chunky compared to the standard Fender ones, but the paintwork matches the 80's ones (kind of perloid finish). If it is a pawn shop, you may be able to negociate a little on the price. Most importantly is how you feel about the bass, if you like it and it is up your street it is worth purchasing. Now a days, 300 quid can hardly get you a brand new Squier...
20. I just wonder if the second run will have the same quality and sound everyone is raving about. I am considering the option of going for the 4 string version of the V7 but found that they are sold out until summer.
21.
Is it just me or this new body shape looks a bit like Lakland 44-XX.
The Gold J looked like a Lakland DJ to me. The updates are cool, I like the deeper lower cutaway and the bridge placement as the neck pocket is deeper hence more neck and body contact. But I am not sold on the body re-design... I will miss the old California designs.
